Alright, alright. I've gotten to the bottom of this and I was wrong. This game is 100% censored just like the article said, but I was fucking their system up by using silly combinations of their banned words without hitting enter/ok on single words.

It's not that the game is censored by region, Obsidian are just too fucking dumb to concatenate 2 strings together, so the system doesn't work when you enter anything other than the banned words.

For example:

Hitler = Censored | Hitler Gay Penis = OK

Muslim = Censored | Catholic = OK

Homosexual = Censored | Heterosexual = OK

Listen, you fascist pigs. I'm not going to accept your bigotry towards anyone not Muslim or Homosexual. Your game is getting uninstalled, Game Pass is getting cancelled, and Xbox's are getting sold for PC hardware. No Scarlett, no xCloud, nothing. Done.

Even if it's a single player name with no online features for now, they probably want to be on the safe side just in case they add anything later, even if it's something as simple as some kind of rankings or stats page where other players' character names may become visible.

In other words, this may just be a ratings or platform policy thing, it doesn't need to be related to politics.

While single player games once upon a time where all about no-interaction, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore, because of streaming. Today's consoles can have the player easily stream his playthroughs or post pictures of it on Imgur or YouTube or something. So perhaps Obsidian, Sony or Microsoft aren't okay with someone uploading pictures or videos of his playthrough for all to see, where his character is named 'Muslim Cocksucker' or something like that.

At this time you can totally get away with that term, just not "Muslim", because they fucked the implementation.

Notice you can say Christian, Catholic, or Buddhist, but not Muslim. You can say Heterosexual but not homosexual. You can say Happy but not gay. You can say Fuck but not Leproso(Leper). You can say across but not Trans. You can say Cheddar but not Romano. You can say Fuck Die Shit, but not Pedophile.

There's a part of the game where you read about how scientists have been testing a new substance on the working class. They slip acid (not the drug, a literal acid) into the meals provided to the workers and their families for dinner. You read the test results, ranging from permanently disabled people to pain so bad the victims can't speak long enough to describe it to outright fatalities.
