Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

I would be happy with 11.6 anyway, to me PS4 Pro was the superior console compared to X1X even with the big gap of power, so now it's nothing to be concerned about if that's what we're getting. Final dev kits around June-July should shed more light to the matter if Sony kept silent all that long.
The 11.6 number is old news. Even your friend Foxy Games was talking about it 1 year ago :messenger_tears_of_joy:

As for the OLED discussion, I have a Philips 55" 4K/HDR OLED with AmbiLight for 1,5 years now and no burn-in or similar so far. It's in my "office/gaming room" and I couldn't be happier about it.

And if I watch too many hours in succession, it wants to shut off for 10 mins to clear the panel. That's it.

With a large portion of the world on hold, do you guys think it would be a good thing or bad thing for Sony and Microsoft to talk “next gen”

On one hand with sports and everything else canceled, seems like they’d have more undivided attention on them than they could any other time. I think a prime time video game event would do big numbers right now

On the other hand it might come off as opportunistic or in bad taste, as people are dying due to the virus.

What do you guys think

Are people already gloating on a leak and pretending it's confirmed when Sony has said nothing......We have no idea what figure is correct, the guy saying one of the recent pastebins is correct may be FOS himself and we have no idea which one he is talking about.....Why doesn't he say which one specifically, because everyone is playing these foolish games in the hope that they will be close and say "told ya"......It's just an attempt at cheap points online, but there is also the other slope, when you have gloated and you are completely wrong.....

It's the same way some people wanted to force the 9.2TF number down our throats, and were actually aggressive when you didn't believe, some are still pushing that 9.2TF and trying to justify why it wont be so bad, when MS can easily do a 12TF console at the same time. I guess Sony must be handicapped...

Says the fanboy gloating over a 15 tf pastebin leak lol. Back to your cave.

OT: quite a few of you are on that 11.6 number but of course some still pushing the 12.6 - 13 tf narrative for that "moral victory" 😭😭. Even their god osiris has said the same regarding 11.6 and heating/noise issues.

I want a powerful system that's not about to blow up on me. 11.6 wouldn't make a difference but now some 9.2 shit, they can shove it up their ass.

It's like playing with your phone in a funeral. I think it's better to keep it minimum or nothing or talk about the pandemic and support your fanbase to fight it back.

Would also be happy with 11.6 also still like you we will have to see where they end up .

Gotta agree there. It’s just the wrong time and would come over really time deaf. I mean on the one hand you would be lost in a sea of other news, but on the other you would be putting out news at a time that would seem really, really rude.

It’s the worst possible time. April at the earliest but most probably June.

The only good news would be cancelling this season's EPL and extending Liverpool's thirst for a league title to a 31 years streak. Would be the best prank in football history.

The "Curse" is real

Here’s some potential good news on COVID19. I recall reading a post yesterday from a resident of West Virginia, a state that hasn’t had a single positive test for Coronavirus. The resident said the doctor told him it’s possible that the disease ran its course in the state several months ago. The resident also said that back in November, he came down with a “flu” that took him 4 weeks to recover from.

Yeah I get it, but people also need something to look forward to. Maybe they could donate advertising profits to the cause.

We can’t all be sitting around depressed with nothing to do for weeks on end. Video games are like the safest thing to do right now.

Do you think they’re going to promote TLOU2 and GOT, or would that be tone deaf too? I actually think they’d get more attention promoting their products now, with people being sequestered in their homes, no one traveling and no sports to watch.

Well, we got plenty to do:

-Watch Netflix (series/movies).
-Play grindy/online games on PS4/Xbox.
-Reproduce to fight back the pandemic.
-Make memes.
-Repeat.

I believe........ the Bloomberg article that said PS5 will use elaborate cooling had some truth to it. But arent RDNA2 cards relatively cool at high clocks? I think Github shows Sony experimenting at 2.0Ghz antipating RDNA 2 type heat. Regardless of what current dev kits have, we will see a 56CU chip at 2.0Ghz making 13TF plus at retail. RDNA2. I dont think the current dev kits are RDNA2. The final ones will be. For those that know the math, where does that get us?
56CU RDNA2 chip at 2.0Ghz on the TFlop scale?

Take the bullshit attacks on feminism over to the politics subforum, or the ot. This thread is about the next gen consoles.

What do we know about the haptic feedback on the ps5 controllers?

What do you think are the odds they can be split in half and held one half in each hand as per the earlier patent?

What are the odds they can accurately simulate the feeling of putting your hand in water, of holding a metal gun, or touching skin, or feeling a cold breeze on the palm of your hand.

Who even are you, and why are you speaking like you’ve always been here?

Alts, alts everywhere!

56 or 52 CU at 2.0Ghz RDNA chip also. Where is that on the TFlop scale? On Era, that Penello was hell bent on PS5 and Github being true, doubting the credibility of the Bloomberg piece being true, as that wont require exotic cooling, according to him. But I wager Bloomberg was correct... and despite RDNA 2 cards being relatively cool, Sony want to take it all the way to 2.0Ghz.

If Github was testing BC, then they expect the GPU to work at 2.0Ghz. If it gets there for BC, it's going to get there for PS5 games because while CUs disable for PS4 game playing of non-patched Pro games, the clocks never lower to compensate. Only the CUs disable to run normal PS4 games on this mode.

So... Github to me proves PS5 will have a GPU clocked at 2.0GHZ.

Actually speaking of being stuck at home, we h e been hammering some movies this weekend, and god damn the internet speeds taken a hit big time. Buffering out the arse...

Shows you just how behind the Uk is with this stuff.

Really? Probably explains why I'm suffering when I go to Man United's main website to watch highlights there instead of waiting for the youtube version later. But aren't you using fiber optics (or ancient ADSL like me :messenger_anxious:)? Or you're a 4G/5G guy?

YouTube seems to have been slow the last couple days

Sadly in my area the absolute best I get is 70meg-ish, but even then, things are slow to the point that if I load up YouTube, I’m created with a 240p video for a while.

Fun times.

Well, I'm using ADSL at only 16Mbps, and watch 4K@30fps on youtube very smoothly, but not as smooth with 4K@60fps. Go wired, much better.

That IS wired. Come on man, why on earth would I get all the tech I do and then use wireless 🤣 I only use wireless for stuff I have no choice on.

52 cu to 13.31 and 56 cu to 14.33 i guess

By Foxy Games you mean random predictions by GAF posters right?

I dont have any evidence to support such afirmation and I am sure you neither.

I am not here to spread FUD, man. Sorry ;)

I just said to my friend Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem that the 11.6 number is old news because a guy called Foxy Games was talking about it 1 year ago.

Nothing new.

Some back of toilet paper calculations

original ps4 die size: 328 mm
size take by gpu: 88 mm
ps4 process: 28 nm
CUs count: 20

assuming things scale perfectly with 7 nm and Sony decides to keep the same die size and gpu budget

ps5 die size: 328 mm
ps5 process: 7 nm
size take by gpu: 88 mm
CUs that can be fitted in same size: 80 CUs ((20*88)/(88*7/28))
taking 50% CU effiecency into account puts performance at: 10.6 TFLOPS ((1.8*80/20)*1.5)

Edit: One thing not taken into account 800 Mhz original PS4 GPU frequency. Increasing that will also have a big impact

TELL ME ABOUT IT.

certainly strange. I work for a big telco in the UK and have them as my ISP and have noticed nothing strange so far. But yeah I agree, we are vastly underprepared for this type of situation.

on topic I think there will no doubt be a delay in next gen launching now. I think it’s only a matter of time before Sony and MS make some sort of announcement.

RDNA CUs are bigger.
Zen2 cores and cache are bigger too.

You need to use Navi to estimate how many CUs you can put in 328mm2.

Btw what means size take by GPU: 88mm... it is wrong GPU takes the biggest part of PS4’s APU.

Ofcourse there will be differences plus some of the budget needs to go into RT but 11 / 12 TFs doesnt look to be that crazy idea. Also I am not sure if RT is counted in 12TF of Xsx?

Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens , do you have any more info on SX? You talked about not knowing whether the 12TF meant 12.0 and that's it, are devs that much tight-lipped for MS side than Sony side?

I can list everything I’ve heard on SX on a single post, it’s nuts how tight the ship is there, and believe me, I’ve tried to get anything at all. All I know is that its more likely that it’s over 12, not under, but I wouldn’t put it massively past that (this part is assumption based on passing convo). That the system is very quiet, and quietest of the two (third party dev), and that the system isn’t even stressed hitting what it’s hitting (in terms of temp and stress). The only other thing I can think of is the SSD is going to surprise people if they expect the Ps5 one to be light years ahead, because there’s only about 1gb/sec difference. And that’s your lot, hardly anybody even wants to talk about it on a technical level and when they do, I just get the same stuff like “it’s a beast” and “you’re just not ready” 🤣 I have zero concerns about the hardware not being up to scratch, at all... just wish I knew MORE. Obviously first party devs will gush about it, but the last first party dev I spoke with was over a month back now. Third party devs I’ve spoken with have been very happy. But everything I posted above is already well known common knowledge and not really worth mentioning.

Contrast that to PS5, and there’s a fair bit of chatter, and people seem to be a bit different.

While I’m honestly of the opinion that the two are essentially twins... I do get the feeling MS have maybe surprised the Sony ship a little with what’s going on, and how easy they attained it. But that’s ME talking there, it’s not like I’ve got Cerny on speed dial shitting bricks.

I can’t see either system being shit, or noticeably worse. I think what’s harming everything, is Sony have been so quiet, and while that’s completely part of their plan and has been all along, it’s just not meshed well with everything that’s gone on. MS taking an early lead with news made everybody just assume that Sony are being quiet for a reason, and that’s that really the case.

BUT, it is weird that Sony can clearly see everything happening and what people are saying (even before the outbreak) but are still perfectly silent.

Is it being throttled by your internet provider? Try calling them. Or let's say some funny neighbor is hacking it? You know better than me anyway.

Nah it’s not that. To be honest I’ve spoke to a few people around here and we all have the same, different isps and all sorts... I think it’s just so many more people staying at home are putting pressure on things.

I used to pay for 600/60 but then changed to 300/30 because there are almost no places I can get a stable transfer of data with that bandwidth. With everyone switching now to online work, things may get even worse. Right now I'm just getting a bit north of 100 Mb/s but it's Sunday. Tomorrow half of the town will be probably on Skype, me included.

As for console reveals, if things continue to be as bad as it seems now, I won't be buying any hardware this year. It might be better to postpone the generation switch if the world goes into the biggest recession since unified markets emerged.
