Gears 5 is also using some RT calculations for shadows and reflections.

well they specifically said the demo shown used UE4's screen space raytraced global illumination, and that isn't that much of a power drain. and I am pretty sure Gears 5 does not use RT for any reflections, never heard of it and never seen it... and I played through it on near to ultra settings on PC (turned down shadows a bit because it didn't look much worse but got me a comfortable 10FPS of additional performance)

I didn't catch that part. So their system is faster than the 2080TI with zero optimization?
On that one game, if it was a true test. But you cant judge against PC like that, optimization on PC is always bad in the last couple of years of a gen, because they expect most PC users to brute force console ports now. The 1060, with the 2060 fast catching up, is the most common gpu on Steam now, and they match, and better, the OneX.
When multiplatform next gen games (like Assassins Creed Ragnarok for example) release for next gen and PC, thats when comparisons will show more merit.

In my dream last night PS5 looked like this.
Wider footprint than Series X but also taller and narrower than PS4 Pro. Vents at bottom and top. Top looks to be housing huge fan for exhaust. Bottom section of console smaller fan for intake.
And in my dream Sony did not reveal any TF numbers 🤣

Also in my dream, Jason Schrier tweeted that Tommy Fisher is full of shit and a fraud.

Alienware wants their pc back o_o

more expensive cooling system than PS4, which cost 1-2 dollars.. or am I wrong?

Just because its cheap does not mean its elegant and effective.

Sony have a new patent on double sided cooling...somehwre in this thread....so....we will just ahve to wait and see if a) they use it and b) how effective it is,

Must be doing something to be worthy of patent...

Loving the Series X specs and features.

It appears so. Quite amazing actually. Like my wish was for all current gen games to automatically get PC Ultra settings off the bat with these next gen consoles and that looks to be the case with Series X.
Its crazy and i love it.

Did you watch Demon Seed that night?

If the 2080TI can barely run Gears of War at 4K and 60FPS, I think it's amazing the XBox Series X can run it at one hundred FPS. If the PS5 is thirteen TF, then I think that we could have two systems that are true generational leaps. I did not expect such a leap in performance. At most, I was expecting performance of a 2080 Super and not 40% beyond a TI. This is absolutely stunning.

We are getting the performance of a 2000 dollar card in a sub five hundred dollar console.

The only reason for such defence strategy is the inevitable sony fanboy response of

"OMG SONY DID IT AGAIN THEY HAVE DEMOLISHED XBOX IN POWER.....AGAIN, BOOM"

Many people have thought ps5 would be more powerful, choosing to believe klee, osirisblack and tommy fisher.

I actually think some sony fans have pushed the 9.2tf github narrative, when they actually believed klee all along, so in there mind if the ps5 was more powerful they can claim it as some massive victory.

These people are mentally ill and need to be helped.

I would swear I have read about it somewhere (and it was specifically mentioned Gears 5 is using RT calculations for long distance shadows). Also if I'm not mistaken digital foundry in their PC port analysis video (Alex to be exact) has talked about reflections, and if I remember correctly reflections set at ultra on PC are also using some type of primitive RT calculations as well. With HW RT I guess these calculations could be offloaded and maybe even look better at the same time.

it could be that it uses Screen space Raytraced reflections which would be slightly better looking that normal Screen space reflections I guess, but not by much.
either way, screen space RT effects are not nearly as taxing, but if it uses them they could boost the performance slightly when utilizing the RT hardware.

I was comparing the read times.
Greater read times means faster loading which is how they reduced load times from 8.1secs to 0.8 secs.
No I got that. You were responding to someone who was comparing the Spiderman demo vs Microsoft's demo. Those were two different use cases. You responded with the speculated ps5 bandwidth and MS bandwidth as if that was the reason for the difference. So I was pointing out that those two cannot be compared and the bandwidth is not the reason for the difference.

yeah, ofcourse you would say that. I must be Dark10X and Richard xbox fanboy leadbetter that made videos touting 9.2TFlop github leak and posted it to the world, or IGN, Gamespot, and the rest of the fake news gaming media. This 9.2TF agenda was carefully constructed by the above with the purpose of MS gaining goodwill, mindshare over the Playstation brand after their massive fuckups early this gen. Go read some cringe garbage comments on TrashEra, people saying "oh MS you understand us gamers, you love and care for us" Somewhere out there, theres the clink of champagne glasses as the shills and strategists say "mission accomplished".

In lieu of Sony's future debrief on the PS5, I'll be using MS's latest as a defacto replacement for my fanboy dreams.

Especially since we keep getting told they'll be "very close".

At this point, what the fuck does it matter if PS5’s TFs aren’t exactly the same as XSX? At the end of the day, the only thing consumers are going to care about are the games and we already know Sony has those in spades. So what is MS bringing to the table?

I care if the PS5 isn't at least twelve TF and hopefully at least thirteen. If it's not, then it is not a generational leap and not worth buying. Remember, this improvement in efficiency is no greater than the leap to unified shaders. That was a massive improvement in efficiency.

9.2tf talk in the media is due to the only data around (an AMD Oberon file some asshead at AMD accidentally uploaded.... then took down).

There would be zero 9.2tf chat for the past year if Sony said something for PS5. But if they don't then it'll continue as 9.2tf.

Nobody knew what SeX was going to be, but they gave a vague "double the power of X" in December. So the past few months everyone knows it'll be basically 12tf. No more weird guesses on the tf count. And today they cemented it.

Not hard to change the narrative.

This tells me nothing. It doesn't prove that there is special code necessary to implement that the PC GPU can never use. They are both using DX API and the engine is still UE 4.0. Do you think the RDNA 2.0 coming to AMD GPUs for PC will pass up the 20xx series of boards? We'll see.

The article doesn't say that Gears 5 is running 100FPS @ 4k + ultra. There is no physical way that's possible on 12TF.

Maybe RDNA2 is much improved compared to RDNA1 and that's why 12TF can beat 2080ti now. It's also possible Gears 5 on XSX is using VRS (up to 70% performance boost in 3dmark) or dynamic resolution. Anyway I'm mighty impress 👍.

This is one of the articles saying 100 fps.

Klee bingo'd the 12 TFs, not the CUs nor the clock speeds.

As you can see it here in this shot, he just bingo'd the TFLOPS count, not the math itself.

Precisely that

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
Actually Tommy Fisher dropped some infos about that:

It will be interesting to see what the memory setup is on ps5.i dont know how they are going to get more then 560gb/s.

But if all that turns out to be true I think real world performance will be practically identical.
In gpu bound situations the PS5 might have a tiny edge and in CPU bound situations the XSX might have a slight edge.
But with performance this close 3rd parties will aim for parity and 1st party games will be more determined by there art style and engine.

Hardware power wont matter next gen.

I keep seeing people saying sub $500. I wouldn't be too sure of that at this point. To be honest I am over here damn near praying for $499.
considering the feature set, power and exclusives on the PS5, $499 (or £450 for me!) is not a bad price, I think it's reasonable, sure PS4 was a bargain but we got lucky with that, PS3 was dam near $700! If there is a time to set aside some money for it, it would be now!
