All machines have thermal issues these days. That’s why SmartShift exists.
Also PS5 is using RDNA 2 - a more power efficient design. So that 300W drops down to a more manageable number. Sony design their cooling for that chassis TDP - then there are “no more unknowns“ as Cenry put it.
Xsex went for a traditional solution but ugly design.
I doubt either box is going to have much more than a 200W chassis TDP. Smartshift will let Sony push more of that to the GPU.
A lot of talk about tflops and too little about power usage which with these gpu specs becomes critical.

Not at all mate, those details are crucial to me as well.
I'm already cautious that the controller seems to be xb1 controller sized, which I hate and is half the reason I rarely play my XB1X.
I hate everything I've heard about "Netflix like" and "live stats and info" populating the PS5 UI. Xb1's ass OS menu is the other half of the reason I rarely play it.

The SSD + CPU is going to make the PS5 one awesome media device. Apps that load insanely, responsive UIs, etc.
Don't really need to SEE it at this point personally, but excited for it. I'm hoping for something simple like the PS4 had with the speed cranked up to 11.

I mean, I wouldn't care if the event was postponed because of that, I would understand and maybe even agree, but in fact they are not obliged, his speech implies that if Sony does not do it they will be wrong, he is already preparing a pretext for this. Very dishonest in my view, the situation is complicated but only Sony's positioning and saying it will support them are already doing a lot.

With Madden I get it because the NFL has had a....shall we say tenuous stance on these issues in the recent past. But otherwise I agree. It shouldn't impact announcements much. Plus the PS event is on Thursday. I think things will have begun to cool off by then.

Or maybe they added a 1080p short throw projector 100 lumens (like a better version of the one in my Handycam) so that every kid buying one can have a large screen just by shutting the curtains. Would be a massive hit with parents, and could bring back local 4 player gaming where each console projected its own 1/4 screen - perfect for an e-sports future.

I should edit in I would assume they would look something like this.
So... if this is even REMOTELY close to the final shape, can we safely assume PS5 also won the generation from a design standpoint?

I hear you. But that 2.23 Ghz GPU in the PS5 is crazy high, and will run hot. I won't lie. I'm a bit concerned. Can't wait to see the actual design of the PS5 to see if it will alleviate my concerns.
