The most impressive looking next gen graphics so far

Ms probably saw that sony keeps winning GOTY with single player, story, character driven games

And wanted a piece of the pie, ninja theory is a good choice since they won an award for hellblade.

If you can be creative, just buy someone who is and take the credit, good business

Damnnnn, Microsoft snatching raw talent :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Didn't Microsoft fuck up Tomb Raiders reputation and sales by making one of the reboot games a timed exclusive? Suppose that would have been Square Enix's doing too. But who comes begging for a property that started out as a Playstation staple with Lara Croft being a Playstation mascot back in the day. I hope Microsoft give Ninja Theory creative freedom. Their games just don't sound right under the Microsoft brand.

Me too, I hope ninja theory doesnt go the route of rare, and basically be side lined

MS has never had compelling serious SP games, or are know for it, more shooters and MP games

So its gonna be interesting if they push for this, most of their trailers so far have a gritty feel to them, whereas sony trailers have a vibrant family friendly feel to them

Gonna be an interesting generation, cant wait to see it play out, I really wanna see MS be know for more than just halo and gears

Flight Simulator looks unreal, the amount of content it has is amazing. I can imagine some of the cloud tech being used in other MS games.

Hellblade 2 is not really anything yet. It was running at 24fps and something like 60% of 4K. More of a aspersion trailer. Saying that I expect it to be very impressive when we see gameplay.

Well, there's Bleeding Edge..

Hope for NT that kind if thinf isn't what they will be doing after HB2 if it doesn't meet sales-targets.

Which was already confirmed by the devs to be in development long before Microsoft bought them. There is even a post on Steam (in the Hellblade thread i believe, or in one of their other games threads) where someone asked what games they are working on, and the reply was something like 'We have numerous projects in the works, including a Fortnite style Hero shooter'. And the post was from 2017 or 2018, long before they were bought.

I'm aware of that.

Very valid points. It mostly just looks good because the character is detailed. The plants and rocks aren't even that detailed... It's mostly beautiful due to the colouring
What the difference between looking good and being beautiful?
Anyway, flight sim looks fantastic, I guess the power of the cloud 💪⛅ showing it's might.

Can you explain how the cloth/hair should behave properly and where is it lacking in the trailer ?
Can you show us where you expect finding shadows and why ?
Can you show your source for baked lighting please ?

And notice the waterspout she left behind her and how good it is behaving and rendered !

Sony certainly showed some really nice stuff with Horizon and R&C, but I have serious reservations as to whether they'll actually reach such goals. It's one thing to make these happen "in-engine" in an on-rails vertical slice, and another to make a full game at the same quality level. We've seen countless games where in-engine cinematics look insanely good, while the actual gameplay is nowhere at the same level in terms of looks.

I fully expect that most of these next-gen showcase trailers are the usual kind of fluff like the original Anthem or Watch Dogs trailer. Vertical slice targets that the devs will ultimately fail to reach, and fanboys will argue how the launch game is totally close enough if you just close one eye and squint real hard...

I havent seen anything from the xbox console, because I frankly don't care about that platform. But speaking about PS5 games, I'd say Horizon is the winner. Second best game is the Demon's Souls remake and RE8 also looks fantastic.

Kena and Ascent for me, I just love how fricking detailed these games are.

I have yet to see games like HFW, HB2 etc. in action, but if we're comparing CGIs, then BLizzard>all.

Nothing. Sometimes I start typing something, and then get distracted and return and I basically say things twice. So basically it's beautiful due to character model and colours.

Ratchet and clank gameplay was real-time. 99% of stuff shown by in the Sony event (and 100% of Sony exclusives) was real-time running on PS5, be it gameplay or cinematics. Ratchet was real-time gameplay, Horizon and Demon's souls was real-time cutscenes.

Just so you know, in-engine basically means pre-rendered, like the Hellblade 2 trailer. For instance Uncharted 4 60fps reveal was also in-engine but after all the negative feedback they never did something similar afterwise (showing pre-rendered 'in-engine' stuff) for any of their big games.

I just got off downloading Ratchet and Clank for the PS4 pro; and the chase scene from Clank felt like a playable CG moment. The PS5 version somehow manages to go beyond that.

And that Horizon: FW on 4K.... Blows that Unreal 5 demo off the door if that was real-time.

Horizon 2 looks pretty freaking amazing. Flight Simulator 2020 looks amazaballs. Hellblade 2 looks insane but I remain skeptical. Will gladly eat crow if that really is in-game.

Wrong on 2 counts. In engine means it is produced by the game engine. In engine can be pre-rendered or real time.
Digital Foundry analysed the trailer and determined that there were many imperfections that wouldn’t exist in a pre rendered trailer.
We’ll see in July (hopefully) how close the gameplay comes to the trailer.

And when Sony is doing exactly same thing with FFVII and numerous games from last conference everything is OK. Some people are even happy with that.

Was Final Fantasy on the original xbox? When did the first xbox come out? All I know is some of the games have been remastered or only recently started to hit Xbox consoles. Thought the Final Fantasy brands primary home was Playstation. I mean to say, people grew up with those franchises on Playstation so Sony having a year exclusive to a game that originally debuted on their first console is really shitty....but it makes more sense. More sense than Microsoft withholding Tomb Raider from Playstation for a year. That franchise was a playstation staple.

Hair looks static and is not moving freely as long hair should underwater. It's pretty obvious the front of her hair isn't even reacting or moving at all. The clothes appears to be using precanned animation and are not moving in a physics accurate manner. Those fur shoulderpads don't even look believable underwater. The neck chains aren't even animating and seem stuck to her character model.

I would expect to see hard shadows lines or at least soft shadow of the breathing equipment she has but it looks like it's not even casting a shadow or reacting to surrounding lighting. This suggest it's a baked indirect lighting object.

Almost every game uses baked lighting in one way or another, it's just the type and degree they use it. Her character model seems to be using a combination of mix lighting. You can tell because she is light from top side and bottom side. The sun is on the upper right when she dives in but somehow she is being lighted up near her chest area.

Have you seen the trailer before you wrote that ?

And according to Epic, nextgen means no more baked lighting since GI is realtime.

Lol, show me something equal to this on PS4 since those screenshots are ingame taken with photomode from PS4.
Again, look at the hair behind her ear... I've got lots of games that have hair looking like that

One : she is in the water,
Two : clouds are in the sky.
Three : you don't show your source to prove that GI is not in the game since Nextgen means GI as Epice demonstrated that in the PS5 demo.

This guy is attacking MS for getting timed exclusivity on Tomb Raider, while praising exclusivity Sony had that was bought as well. Hell Sony did worse. It wasn't just timed exclusivity, it was 100% exclusive forever.

Then there were the anti-2D policies they had in the PSX era where they thought 2D games were "last gen" and actively tried to ban them in the US. Konami had to basically hold MSG hostage telling SCEA that if they didn't allow them to release Symphony of the Night (which SCEA was going to reject for the US) they wouldn't release MGS.

And then what about the PS3 era? Sony had a policy with third parties where if they wouldn't make their game exclusive to PlayStation, in order to publish it they had to provided PS-exclusive DLC; just so they could slap the "PLAYSTATION EXCLUSIVE" sticker on the marketing and be deceptive and try to trick people into thinking the game was actually exclusive. And that continued into the first couple years of the PS4 as well.

Hell, look at this Arkham Knight standee:

It's not right. And it is beggy behaviour from both companies. Sony bought exclusivity to Tomb Raider which had been released on Sega Saturn and Playstation. I'm not sure when Sega Saturn stopped being a thing but I doubt the exclusivity to Playstation affected players of the console because a) it was the first game, and b) Sega disappeared soon after right? And the fanbase for Tomb Raider hadn't expanded at that point. So Tomb Raider had a relationship with Sony for years, just as Final Fantasy did, so the players who grew up with that console and that franchise had grown and grown. So for Tomb Raider to suddenly get a timed exclusive on a console (XBoxOne) that had nothing to do with the franchise and had no ties or relationship, didn't even benefit Microsoft in the long run (they even bought the year exclusivity and then gave the game no attention or promo) just made no sense. If the Witcher 3 had a year exclusive to Xbox, even that makes sense because it started under Microsoft. These franchises (TR and FF) are more rooted under the Playstation brand. But that's not me saying they shouldn't be multiplatform........ Microsoft just need to stop lookin like absolute begs and build worlds and charcaters from the ground up with their own studios or smaller studios they've brought if they want an exclusive cherished game franchise.

Final Fantasy began on Nintendo. It's not "rooted" in the PlayStation brand.

But again, you're saying it's OK for Sony to buy exclusivity but not anyone else.

Tomb Raider never was "Sony" or "Playstation" brand. Always multiplatform. Every game on PC, some on Dreamcast, every after Crystal Dynamic take over production published on XBox.

Your generally right ins saying this. For most part I'm seeing it exactly like you. But pure graphics-wise I would give Guerilla the benefit of the doubt at this point. Typically the final versions of their games meet the expectation set up by their trailers.
