This game really is The Last Jedi of gaming it seems. Vast majority of critics love it, but a huge chunk of gamers (including staunched fans of the original) hate it. And the media are already trying to paint anyone who doesn't like it a racist/sexist/misogynist/homophobe etc. It's still launch day!!!

I think the bigger question is will the divide over this game damage the franchise and/or Naughty Dog going forward. That really depends on if folks get the right message in terms of the criticism and respond the right way. TLOU2 itself I don't expect to really suffer much in terms of early launch sales numbers, I still it doing gangbusters. But it might have a really limited shelf life in terms of post launch-phase sales and future DLC content.

Thankfully in its case most AAA blockbusters move the majority of their copies and profits in the launch phase period. Only a very few titles like GTAs, COD etc. continuously top NPD charts month after month. Nintendo's games are evergreen so they're also the exception.

In reality there are millions of normies who were responsible for the success of the first game who may be upset at a story choice that takes place within the first several hours.

They faked it.” When I heard that the first controversial moment happens early. Likely most gamers that stayed up until midnight would have seen it before going to bed.

So no it’s not all “incel toxic alt right bigots” and people have had plenty of time to experience the game by now.

We need a name for people obsessed with this straw man represented by a tiny few cliques on a few message boards, blown way out of proportion as if there are millions like this. Anybody with a little time on their hands can single handedly make a bot. These “hate campaigns” could easily be 3 or 4 people who live somewhere on the globe and are very good at social engineering.

Using extremists to color an entire group is not a good look. It is poor science as well.

Imo the imagined alt right threat is partially exploited by marketers and creators to enhance your enjoyment, you feel like the more superior consumer. Does anyone honestly care about user scores? I mean, I don't give a shit about "professional" game reviewers opinions either but I wouldn't even give a quick glance over a review written by a random person on the internet.

I do as the journalists mostly have a bias and agenda. For example kingdom come deliverance game was an amazing peice of historical unique rpg fun with a great narrative, never done that way before. You felt like a pissant in the midst of your town being pillaged by an army and you escaped by the skin of your teeth. Great game.

Almost all professionals reviewers panned it because, "no black people in game". (it took place in 1445 in a 10sq mile section checkislovakia. There was no black people, or east Asians, Indians, etc...but they didn't bitch about those ethnicities.)

Then they bitched because the women acted like women in the game instead of feminists hating men. They didn't like that there was churches with historical art and npcs that spoke praise Jesus and stuff like that. They bitched that the game wasn't changing history and putting in their rag tag group of Resist nutters. Oh and they especially hated how the crwator defended gamer gate and was against Sarkeesian on Twitter. Basically the reveiwers acted like tantrum throwing simps from reeeeeeesetera.

Instead of reviewing fairly they panned said game about politics. They did the same shit to other games like far cry 5.and movies like the last jedi, Ghostbusters 2016, the Joker or shows like star trek discovery, Picard, and new Dr who.

Meanwhile user reviews were giving good scores and reviews for these games that didnt match the low ideologically given paid reviewer scores.

People and you tubers were honest with these games and paid old guard reveiwers were shills to their insane sjw post modern worldview.

It was after this that I stopped believing journalist reviews as half of them anymore are activists.

Long gone are the days of good reviewers like Colin Moriarty, Greg kasavin, garnett Lee and others that legit did a great job back in the day. It's sad that they will review based off of agenda rather than game quality. So yeah I trust normal people more and there are hundreds and you can weed out the simple 10s and zeros for well wrriten reviews.

The only times you can trust 'user' reviews is if A. The game is multiplatform (taking away the platform of choice factor). B. The game isnt a rival game to another popular series. C. The game has no SJW agenda shite, or politics forced into the game.

It happens on Steam ALL the time. I dont really agree with it but many people feel its the only way to get their voice heard by the people they want to hear it.
