Ah shit okay, good point.Totally likely.
At time of cert alot of games likely didnt bother uploading 4K+ thumbnails so the thumbnails might look lower resolution for some titles.
Join the lowest tier.
Those updates are basically weeks if not days away from hitting genpop.
Why do you think there is no HDR? Because this resolution upgrade is not full 4k? Even on the Xbox blog it says ‘resolution upgrade’ as opposed to 4k. The only thing that is 4k is the text everything else is not. Just accept it. No HDR is a huge give away. Those images are decided by the developers.
If they dont upload a 4K image whatever resolution they upload for the cover art is what the cover art will be they could upload a 10K image if they wanted and the tile will be 10K resolution.
Some devs are just "lazy" and dont upload super duper resolution cover art for their games.
The dashboard itself is however 4K in this update.
I'm 7 feets away from my 65'' and barely noticed. But I guess people spending hours admiring the dash instead of gaming will be happy about it.Pretty sure this will make absolutely zero difference to me sitting 6 feet back from my tv.

This. I absolutely don't care about a 4k dashboard since i mostly start my games before switching my tv to Xbox and rarely see the dashboard. But it's good to have less food for console warriors.I’m honestly just glad it’s here so people can shut the fuck up about it
100% thisVery nice. But please add HDR to the dashboard so I dont get a black screen for a second when switching from game to dash and vice-versa.
Just joined the omega ring but not getting the 4k dash...it says theres no update required for that ring so i assume it just needs a reboot but still nothing....
What the heck has HDR got to do with it being 4k or not? They have nothing to do with each other. Why do you think there is no HDR? Because this resolution upgrade is not full 4k? Sure, if you disregard all the other software advantages that Xbox has over the competition.Always surprised that a SOFTWARE company is playing catch up with the simplest things.

To be fair the most advanced software features ARE Xbox exclusiveAlways surprised that a SOFTWARE company is playing catch up with the simplest things.
Yep, no hdr on the dash is a good thing for oled owners.I simply do not understand this need to have Dashboard in HDR. You can watch Vincent’s videos, he puts AppleTV’s dashboard to SDR, even though you can default it to DolbyVision. It is not good for OLED screens to have so much static images in HDR
nothing wrong with having screen going black for 2-3 seconds
This dude a model but has really bad teeth. Come on bruh, in Germany it's not that expensive to fix that shit. It’s not 4k.![]()
Lol no. There are PS5 games with equivalent functionality through Activity Cards. Sure it's not universal but it's patchy on Xbox as well.To be fair the most advanced software features ARE Xbox exclusive
Quick Resume is like magic with gamestates being stored on disc. I doubt any other vendor could create that feature since it relies on a lot of other MS software such as hyper-v
Another expert I see.Looks like AI upscaled to me.
I would disagree with the word equivalent cause its not. It can lead to a similar outcome but it's a very different way to achieve that outcome. There are PS5 games with equivalent functionality through Activity Cards
Comparing Quick Resume to Activity Cards...Lol no. There are PS5 games with equivalent functionality through Activity Cards. Sure it's not universal but it's patchy on Xbox as well.
What? it is not nearly the same thing. You clearly lack knowledge here.Lol no. There are PS5 games with equivalent functionality through Activity Cards. Sure it's not universal but it's patchy on Xbox as well.
I think both valve and hopefully microsoft (but they haven't confirmed it) are working on cloud syncing of the containers running the game. I know there are articles about valve doing this but need to find the right search terms. Once that happens and the Internet gets faster enough to make this seamless, I think it will hit another level of usefulness for me.This tech is quite next gen and is probably the future of all console operating systems (using a hyper visors with the game running on a VM).

Activity cards is just starting the game and automatically loading a predefined spot. This only works if the game supports it - try using it in Returnal or Demons Souls for example, it is plain worthless there
Quick resume is indepened of the game and actually stores the game state to disc - like a save state in an emulator it pauses the game and then returns you instantly to the EXACT same place in the game
This tech is quite next gen and is probably the future of all console operating systems (using a hyper visors with the game running on a VM).
Quick resume still has some kinks (some games dont support it) - but it is being improved and frankly I could not live without it
Obviously Activity Cards cannot be implemeneted in the same wayOk fine but go and try it in Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding or several other PS5 games and there is zero loss of progress, functionally this is identical to quick resume and in some cases faster. There's nothing stopping it being implemented like this in games like Demons Souls as well, obviously it can't work in online games but neither can Quick Resume. As an end user why would I care about whether it's using VMs lol.
It's available for me in delta. Is the update with the dimming the Xbox logo out yet for us normies?
They would be using C# with the .Net framework for their UI, presumably. And 2D graphics in 4k isn't really a big deal, any old graphics can handle that. The issue has likely been the size of the framebuffer required and concern about how it will influence running games when switching between them, but I guess that solved it. Finally the UI won't look like something from 2012.So... Speaking as a non-game dev but as a software engineer, is there a meaningful performance issue here? Because provided they're using something like HTML, CSS and some kind of modern UI framework (React, Vue, etc) I don't see how 1080 vs 4k matters at least in terms of things like asset size.
If everything isn't an ultra hd static asset (e.g. .png, .jpg) vs HTML or SVGs then it should be small and fast. I can't imagine it takes up an appreciable amount of memory to go to 4k, unless there's other stuff on the dash that must be bigger beyond the UI elements.
So I'd guess it's down to GPU just pushing more pixels right? For the output? Only sort of tuning I can think of, past mystery assets I cannot account for.
Someone with more game dev or embedded systems dev can correct me.
Kenny you should look up "optimization"That's great news.
But I do remember when people said MS was smartling not using 4K dashboard to have more resources for games haha
same could be said over a company that produces hardware and lack of VRR on its console. they prioritise different things at different times.Always surprised that a SOFTWARE company is playing catch up with the simplest things.

What would the activity say i Demons Souls? "Start right before boss with full health and these enemeies already dead"?
An no - it is never, ever faster. It is better than PS4 - but compared to quick resume it is cumbersome
But wouldn't the buffer size itself be contingent upon the UI assets? If they're using vectors/SVGs why would the size increase regardless of resolution? They would be using C# with the .Net framework for their UI, presumably. how do you attain such a high game score and maintain a normal life
you are missing the big picture.. sure activity cards start the game quickly - but it wont get you back to the same exact point in 2-5 seconds2/5 seconds in some games not fast?
you are missing the big picture.. sure activity cards start the game quickly - but it wont get you back to the same exact point in 2-5 seconds
an example: you cannot resume in the middle of a boss fight with activity cards, instead you start at some checkpoint or similar - with quick resume you just get back to that same point in the middle of the bossfight (in 2-5 seconds TOTAL)
Most graphic is rasterized before display, so even if the source material would be in vectors, the displayed picture would still have the info in raster, so it would be larger in RAM. Source material would be obviously smaller, but it's quite intensive to display vectors and I don't think you would want that when you run the game with vectors (which needs AA, to be displayed properly) on the dash or the "submenu". Just my pov, could be wrongBut wouldn't the buffer size itself be contingent upon the UI assets? If they're using vectors/SVGs why would the size increase regardless of resolution?
This is where I feel I am missing a crucial part in my technical understanding.

Well I hope that means it should be available to everyone soon. It's available for me in delta.
so thats comes out to like 50k gamerscore a year, i guess it's possible16 years.
