I just love the attention to detail.

The time gap between "What do i say? "and "Phil?" :messenger_grinning_squinting:

It hasn’t been this ded in years.

What do you think happens now?
I think the difference is that earlier the market deemed Xbox console dead. But Microsoft wasn't ready to give up on it. Phil said they had a plan to win this generation and beat PS5 with Xbox Series X|S.

Now, the difference is that Microsoft has also accepted the market sentiment that the Xbox hardware is dead.

Btw its already happening. I can play Cyberpunk and bg3 from my library without an xbox just through xcloud gaming on the steamdeck. Saves transfer and everything.
Curious if ms can expand this without much pushback from publishers.

No way they can expand on that without huge pushback from publishers LOL! Why would publishers want to allow that without huge compensation?

To the fact they are going to have OEMs making devices that play Xbox games.

It feels WAAAAY to early to be announcing that though. We all know it's coming to some degree. They'd kill their whole year of 2025 if they announce that soon.

I was always under the assumption that anything can have game pass, will be considered an Xbox now. I mean, that's the whole purpose of owning an Xbox platform if you want a physical box and not a streaming device or PC since the console is cheaper.

I do still think that releasing games on play station ( especially if its same release day as Xbox / PC ) is a bad mistake. Because people at that point will just buy the game on play station they want from MS and be done with it. just like any third party publisher. doing so kinda defeat the purpose using game pass ( which is what MS wants to grow as a business model, the Xbox hardware is just a supplementary box in the ecosystem MS is trying create.

MS should tell Sony you want our games, allow game pass in your box. just like Sony allowed EA. otherwise lock the games out.

But whatever, I stopped gaming on consoles as primary system long time ago. now its PC and maybe PS5 now and then if there is an exclusive not on PC yet like GT7 or rebirth.

Obviously another game-pass esque push to "play anywhere". What we want is solid games Phil.

Man the damage Mattrick did to the brand is insane, still can't fully recover.

I think this is exactly what we're seeing in the sales numbers, going by that post in the Circana thread about XBS not even being in the top 100 on Amazon in their strongest market, the US.

The moment Xbox put games on Playstation, hardware was done for and going full 3rd party is the only viable option left.

Not that long ago Freegunners were screaming about physical media, single player games, market consolidation and first-party.

Now they're all about streaming, PC launchers, third-party exclusivity and acquisitions.

Microsoft was always operating in areas the market wasn't ready for. Sony just waited for the dust to settle before doing the exact same things.
In one piece ms exist in the new world.

They're already letting Series consoles die though

With enough money you never know. Besides unlike geforce now, the games stay within the xbox ecosystem and infrastructure, no 3rd party shenanigans which in my view severely limits gfn reach.

This is true. It just feels just...................................I don't know man. That would mean the Xbox Series consoles only had a 4 year life cycle. There's just no way they can expect the end user to trust them again with hardware if half of your hardware cycles last only 4 years.

I don't think their plan is to sell many consoles but to disrupt the way things are now with PlayStation selling lots of consoles.

At the possible expense of lost profit margins? How does MS figure this "disrupting the way things are now with Playstation" plan is going to work if most people buy their games from Steam and the PS Store?

I'm guessing they was trying to force the gaming industry into the post hardware & physical media state early & become the Netflix of gaming but as of now PlayStation & Nintendo is proving that strategy wrong.

The thinking is that PlayStation couldn't survive for long in the post console world & right now they're going for the many devices vs PlayStation 5 , but to their surprise this moment is Xbox on many devices vs PlayStation on many devices because PlayStation found success on PC with Helldivers 2 & there is Portal for off console gaming .

They really thought it would be Xbox vs Amazon & Google when the smoke cleared.

Honestly do you guys have a rational thought before you lean into bizarre warring?

Instead of just calling a spade a spade, you have to rationalise stupidity with insane arguments.

Apparently Xbox has been making these crazy, mad moves, but the people just aren't ready! So since Xbox one in 2013 launched the world wasn't ready or too stupid to understand. But then the dust settles and Sony just magically copies and reaps the rewards

Son I hate to tell you this but sonys the one making the right moves. Meanwhile, the honourable gentleman sir Phil Spencer has been throwing as much mad moves (shit) at a wall hoping something will stick. Instead of simply releasing great games; while simultaneously crying about how hard it is to make great games.

We are 4 years into this gen and we haven't got a single gears or halo exclusive for next gen. Halo was cross gen and gears 5 released in 2019. Let that sink in.

This whole thing is assuming that streaming is going to take off in a big way.

Clock is ticking on streaming, though. Look at steam deck - when you have a small display, you can run games at much lower quality on little power. And steam deck is getting old.

There's other things going against it too. Tons of games are either low spec or doing this extended cross-gen thing. The only proven crossover and mobile and traditional audiences are multiplayer games that are again low spec. X86 to arm translators are coming, and proton has shown that DirectX translation is viable.

On top of that, I think there's a lot of assumptions that Microsoft is going to magically become a really good gaming company and come out on top of any streaming wars that may be. I don't see why Nintendo, sony, and valve wouldn't stomp them out there, too.

What? I just don't get the weird stanning for mega corps.

If.company A was doing these insane things, they would be the one profiting. In reality they aren't.
Sony isn't perfect but they are least know what the market wants.
Funnily enough since this is a discussion about marketing, I've just seen a Sony black Friday Ad, advertising their console at a reduced price. Very simple marketing.

I suspect streaming will have a smaller market share than VR.
