Microsoft is Not Ready to Deprioritize Xbox Consoles

Call it whatever you want, they are Microsoft games and that's the end of it.

Oh no. Sony fans have never played third-party games before. /s

You are the only one that cares that they are MS games. All PlayStation fans care about is what games they can play on their console. It has always been that way and Sony has always relied on third-party to fill the void or to enhance their library. It is a win for MS and their third-party software sales. Enjoy it. However, it is not a win for Xbox. It is the death march. (For the record, I am not a fan of how Xbox is being handled. I like the consoles and have owned all of them from day one.)

So far it's only a death march from the posters that repeat this ad nauseam and conflate the last two generations of poor Xbox hardware sales with their current and future outlook.

Google Pixel do perfectly fine hardware wise and help create an industry to rival Apple with Samsung and partners.

I still see no solid posts or reasoning or rebuttal why Xbox have not poised themselves and executing on this very transformation for it to mirror the mobile handset space with consoles and the wider gaming market.

They don’t want to throw in the towel but I’m not sure what they can do. The Xbox name has been hurt beyond repair.

"Phil is exhausted, let that man rest!"....

Phil has so much baggage. He would need to leave for a fresh face to take over and present a new narrative/strategy/plan, etc. Until that happens, any "optimistic future/plan/strategy " will be dragged down by Xbox's track record under him. (and this is only from a PR perspective).

This is why no one (except Xbox fanboys) believes or takes seriously whatever their current plan is.

Phil Spencer is not a good leader.

Do you think the poor generations of console sales are of no consequence? It seems to me that their current and future outlook has to do with decisions they have made throughout these generations. Generations in which they thought talking and spending instead of focusing on the games was going to beat Sony in console sales. When ABK hit a roadblock, they had to make tough decisions and deals to get it pushed through regulators. Stockholders took notice. This is the result. They are going to focus on third-party software sales and compete less in hardware sales. I'm not saying they will have no console (at least for one more generation) but we have seen a lot of smoke that they are not looking at making a traditional console.

I’m shocked at the number of people who really want no competition so they can pay $150 for games and $2000 for their PS6.
No one is BUYING games in the future...you wont' have the option. You get to pay a subscription fee and stream that stuff to whatever piece of glass you have in front of you.
Enjoy the benefits gf your $1 GPU subscription and wallow in the mediocrity of the content you get to choose from.

(thank god the power glove is back)

The only reason PlayStation isn't doomed, is because Microsoft is supplying it with games.

2024's GOTY Winner and Frontrunners

Astro Bot - PS5 Exclusive
FFVII Rebirth - PS5 Console
Black Myth Wukong - PS5 Console exclusive
Metaphor - on PS5
Balatro - on PS5
Silent Hill 2 - PS5 exclusive

Literally everything from the 2024 GOTY nominees is on PS5. I don't care who put it there.

Good, I want something unique hardware wise out of Xbox. Something crazy loss leading performance, something hybrid handheld and docked console, something different like the great consoles of old e.g. SNES mode 7, N64 3D/analogue controls, PS CD-ROM, Xbox HDD/broadband/XBL. Bring it on.

What's more important is this developer isn't Sega. If MS fails then it takes almost half the videogame industry with it! (Bethesda, Activision, and MS's own first parties command a large market share! Also, don't even come in here and say Sony can make up for it!

No one is saying Microsoft is in any danger. Xbox is in danger. Bethesda, Activision, etc aren't going away just because and if Xbox no longer exists.

Um Stellar Blade on PS5. You can’t get anything like that on the Series S/X. MS needs to make a sexier game to succeed!

We already HAVE no competition for PlayStation. The worst case scenario is not a hypothetical, it is the reality. We want Xbox to go full third party because they need to leave so that the likes of Amazon can have the room to launch a new console.

Seriously. Xbox got their shot, and they even got one extra Generation to try again than they truly deserved. They still failed. Xbox is NOT Competition and had not been for years. We are not trying to cheer for Sony, we want Xbox to exit the stage so someone else fresh can come up on stage. This belief that Xbox should hang on to Xbox hardware indefinitely by paying for it with profits from other parts of the company is exactly what Sony WANTS.

Right now if Xbox never truly leave, Sony would never get challenged again. Do you want Competition? Then you need creative destruction. The bad company has to give up for better companies to take their place. And Xbox having too much pride to let it go is currently making Sony very happy.

and that's our fault somehow? maybe you rats shouldn't have cheer-leaded half of the industry consolidating under the biggest losers gaming ever saw, in hopes of some list war points.

Thanks for the low effort FUD. Why not $500 games and $10000 consoles. Surely Sony will charge that when Microsoft isn’t around.

And crying about half the industry disappearing with an Xbox exit? Anyone with a semi-functional brain saw what was going to happen. A 3rd rate console platform, known for widespread management issues, using an insane amount of subsidy to buy up developers…

And it’s somehow the fault of gamers who didn’t want to accelerate loosing ownership for a subscription that has already increased in price and removed key features.

This is about consoles. Microsoft can fail in the console segment and still be successful in publishing so no, half of the game industry is not at stake here.

HaHA some of these kids don't remember the Atari days... They'll learn... Yawl think $700 is alot for a console?? Yep, they'll learn soon enough! Nintendo doesn't count because they're not shipping a traditional console.

Nah.....Xbox isn't going anywhere. Phil Spencer already said as much. I was just pointing out that half the industry isn't resting on the shoulders of Xbox consoles like you think it is. Seriously....the hyperbole in this thread is nuts.

I really hope most here are trolling

Because you are fucking dumb if you really want Xbox to dissappear completely

The posts I'm seeing are saying that Xbox being "deprioritized" is just a matter of fact. That isn't necessarily saying that's what they want. I certainly don't, but seems pretty clear Xbox console isn't a priority for Microsoft gaming.

And your point is?
What do you think Xbox should do, within realistic measures? The higher ups at Microsoft prefer the software strategy of releasing things on as many platforms as possible for sales and engagement, especially after the ABK deal.

How could Phil possibly convince them to go back to a closed exclusive software solution? I don’t think he could or will.

That's not going to happen. If Sony raised the price of the console to £2K then the public would reject it and move onto another device.

PlayStation isn't the only place you can play games. The Switch (and upcoming Switch 2), PCs, Steamdeck (and other PC handhelds) gaming laptops etc are all competitors to Sony.

I also don't want Microsoft to leave the console space, but they've dug their own grave in that regard.

Sony

Nintendo
Actions, not words. In northwestern European countries, you couldn't even tell the Xbox is sold and electronics hardware stores. The gaming departments are all PlayStation Blue with a tiny green corner for a bit of Xbox stuff.

I hope Xbox makes a serious push for hardware when their next console launches. I like Xbox' and the Xbox ecosystem more than its competitors.

If SEGA never left the console space because of some secret warchest, Xbox would never even have existed. Disappearance of the loser is GOOD, it allows fertile ground for another competitor to show up. Sony is no immortal, the right challenger can make all the difference. it's just that Microsoft and Xbox clearly were the wrong company for that job. So now we want Xbox to get off the stage so we can get some fresh blood in here.

I want Xbox the console to disappear, so we can see what will replace it. Stop looking into the past at what could have been and focus on the future. There will be another new console one day, Xbox is just currently delaying such a launch by dragging their feet with their farewell.
