Halo Infinite - Campaign Overview (October 25th - 6am PT / 9am ET / 3pm CET)

No one reads the Halo blog, man.

Halo 2, 3, ODST and Reach weren’t under the same scrutiny because that was Bungie in their prime when Halo was the hottest it’s ever been. The franchise has cooled off tremendously since then, in large part thanks to 343’s mismanagement.

Honestly, 343 has fumbled their marketing campaign if what you say is true. And it’s on them to show us all this awesome stuff, in a video on YouTube preferably, not buried in some blog. All they keep doing is showing the same stuff over and over again. Today would have been a great time to showcase some of that location/environment diversity.

Speak for yourself if you're trying to pretend Bungie was perfect on Halo. They were far from it, and it's the primary reason why them leaving the franchise was the best possible thing to happen to Halo. Halo 4 is easily one of the best campaigns in the entire franchise, and was the ultimate 360 swan song. It also has the best depiction of master chief in the games as a complete character, from his humanity to his reputation as a legend for humanity. Halo 4 also has the best, most complete version of Cortana as a character.

ODST, though fans enjoy it for what it was, it was a quick and cheap cash in to hurry things along and get their independence from Microsoft.

And I understand that perhaps you have no intention of playing the game, so maybe that's why you don't seem to care a single bit if they spoil any and everything in a trailer, but people like myself who will actually be playing this would appreciate being surprised with the various locations. Trying to attack a game for mostly existing in a specific location or setting is one of the most insane pieces of console warring I've seen in some time. It teaches me to start putting many more people on ignore going forward.

Bungie screwed marty over
Not 343

People are so eager to attack the game with nonsense they're even assigning actions and behaviors of Bungie to 343, because why the fuck not?

Just got through watching that 2018 trailer and this current trailer feels or seems to look nothing like that game. The only thing that seems to be similar is that master chief is in it and you have one type of tree. Are you trolling? All you said was their is a cave, body of water, gear, and equipment in the world map. I mean I would hope those things would be in an open world halo game. That trailer was simply an in engine cut scene to hype folks up for halo and should be for the most part be ignored since it would just create disappointment.

And yet the game's multiplayer that we just finished playing matches up with the 2018 trailer to perfection. Anyway, time to start to focusing more on interacting with people who intend to play the game and ignore the rest of the noise.

Graphics are improved across the board. Game looks good but still its cross gen, so nothing looks mind blowing.

Ultimately if gameplay is solid and its fun to play then no real gamer will complain.

Only no life virgin haters who has no interest in the game and all they do trolling and hating on games which are not on their consoles, will continue to bash it regardless.

Real gamers will play it with open mind and judge it based on their experience

That’s kind of my position. however, I don’t think it will be the console seller as expected.

I’m undecided on whether I’ll play this game. Waiting for more details first. I also couldn’t care less about location spoilers. That’s actually really weird, man. I just want more information so I can see if the game is worth my time. Rockstar does it right when they showcase their open worlds by giving players a taste of what they can experience. 343 could do a whole lot better in that regard.

Also, I get that you’re emotionally invested in this game, but accusing me of console warring because I’m being critical of Halo is dumb. Xbox is my primary console of choice, I’m just not a blind fanboy so I can be critical of things. Please put me on ignore so I don’t upset you in the future.

I thought it looked decent, though I think open-world Halo might not be the unique experience many will want.

Yeah I think that’s the biggest downer. The 2018 E3 trailer gave the impression that the world would be much more lively and diverse. So far all we’ve seen is the bog standard Ubisoft open world template. Looks very basic.

Exactly this. It does look better than last year's showing and it seems to play wonderfully if betas were any indication.
Having said that. It's nothing like the 2018 trailer and the environment seems bland. I hope there's more to it than what they are showing because GoT-esque games succeed or fail depending on the variety of situations and scenarios you find while playing. I really hope we don't find similar outposts over and over on the same kind of environment.

What is what people putting money value on things. Not worth $60. Do we all value $60 the same? Halo is a big time game. If yearly games like Madden, CoD, NBA 2k, cost $70 than a game like Halo should cost $250. Also free if you have game pass which most everyone that owns a xbox have.

Also for any game. The more the better.
Open World
rpg elements like skill trees
rare loot
rare mobs or bosses

Man, that looked amazing. So amazing in fact I just checked if I can buy a Series X for it. But of course, the console is still sold out everywhere... Well, it‚s only been a year since it‘s launch…

People still think Halo Infinite's primary purpose is to sell consoles? Its primary purpose is to sell Game Pass subscriptions. Selling Xbox consoles is secondary to this, but of course more xbox consoles sold will certainly help contribute to Game Pass growth. People shouldn't overlook the importance of launching on PC simultaneously, however. The first Halo title to do so.

Such thing does not exist and it will never come.

Flight Sim is the only thing that comes close to anything major when it comes to "next gen"

Forza Horizon 5 is cross gen and universally praised as the best looking console game to come out yet. Horizon Forbidden West is another cross gen game that's delayed only a couple months into 2022 and was hyped as well for its graphic fidelity.

Flight sim is a poor example as the level of detail is being rendered from a cloud server farm. Rendering offline and natively from the console itself and the graphics look downright mediocre.

Watched it first yesterday and I thought yes looks ok. Watched it a second time and I'm more hyped. Really looking forward to it. It's been off my radar as there's been nothing about the campaign the last year other than a few screenshots and the last week I've been playing through Reach on MCC and I don't think the AI has been bettered in a FPS since the Halo games so fingers crossed its going to play great.

Looks pretty good and all but I gotta say one of the reasons I never really "got" Halo was the enemies. I don't find them cool at all. Their voices and stuff are often dumb/super cheesy.

Those giggling enemies from Halo one, anything with that super cheesy deep monster voice? Not feeling it.

Anyways I'll give this a try when it releases, I'm fine with the graphics and the gameplay looks rather nice. Aside from trying some of the later games ever so briefly, I haven't properly played Halo since the first game.

Edit: this is what I'm talking about

Why the shit would I wanna hear this ear assault?

I know that MS should be opening the cheque book and doing what ever it takes to get Staten to stick around for the foreseeable, clearly had a massive positive effect on this game.
I don't think he's leaving since his position changed from Campaign Project Lead to Head of Creative on Infinite after joining. He was with Microsoft Studios (Xbox Game Studios) since 2014, as well.

It's a purely art style thing imo. What I'm seeing for Halo Infinite is a technical showcase for Series X in its own right. It's a Halo game first, second and third before anything else. What's on display in that trailer is uniquely Halo, there are situations that are only possible in Halo, and it's looking as incredible as it does while also that ambitious with its size, verticality and sandbox possibilities? Halo Infinite's art direction may not be to everybody's liking, but it's certainly not lacking in the next gen graphics department for me. All it ever needed to look like was a Halo game, and a Halo game has to look like what it needs to look like to service its gameplay objectives, a department in which no other major fps is able to deliver the Halo experience.

If someone wanted Horizon Zero Dawn? That's never been Halo's art direction or style. If someone wanted Gears of War? Halo has never been that either. Forza Horizon 5 is being the best of what it always was. There's no past Halo game that comes close to touching what's in this trailer. Once you accept Halo's art direction, its insane gameplay ambitions and its 60fps performance target, it becomes pretty easy to be blown away by what's in the trailer. I know I am. With each watch it's only gotten more impressive for me.

I don’t think we will either. Consoles no longer do something your average gaming PC can’t. Next gen is HDR and 4k TVs.

that said the beta looked crisp in multiplayer, so it will be a good experience.

I wonder what it will looks like now.

Edit : I wanted to put campaign trailer in the title. Can a mod edit? (Thanks the mod for a much better title)

Trailer was impressive :). It looks really improved over last year, quite a change in a year to be honest. I hope they also managed to give it enough tools and engine legs/flexibility to make it easier to keep adding content.
Trailer did showcase multiple ways to engage enemies and traverse the expansive world, curious how free you will be to explore at your own pace (open worlds with proper context and lore can make open world tropes fun, see GoT), I just need to catch-up to the story after the end of Halo 5 because it feels we are back at Halo 1: CE with the banished instead of the covenant.

People still believing next-gen will blow you away and these cross gen projects mean nothing are likely in for a rude wake up call.

I don't think we're going to see much of a difference between PS5/X1 exclusives vs cross-gen games. I wouldn't say todays games already push the hardware to the max, but its rather straightforward architecture and only 2, 3x as powerful as PS4 Pro. Its clear that RT effects will already cripple the resolution or framerate. This won't change that much over the coming years.

I wouldn't be surprised if FH5 turns out to be one of the better looking games on the system period, despite being cross gen. How much more do you think these systems can push at 60fps?

I actually really liked what I saw in that trailer. Does it look as good as Horizon 2 or FH5? Absolutely not. I personally think the Character models, armors, interior spaces all look great and beyond what an Xbox One could handle, but the outside area's are pretty lacking. Seems like there's one biome and it's filled with what I can only describe as Halo 3 Pine trees. It really drags down the visuals of the landscapes as the rock textures and general foilage seems improved since next year (although still not "next gen")

That said, I couldn't be happier about what I saw. I finally saw an actual halo campaign again. Seems like the game is really centered around it's sandbox, bigger scaled firefights mixed with curated setpieces. I personally can't wait to get my hands on it.

343i must be feeling really good right now. The overall consensus is that they’ve smashed it from this trailer. Looks tobe a lot of hype on the internet. Good on them.
The game looks incredible from a gameplay point of view and very impressive from a graphics view point. They've seemingly created a much bigger and deeper Halo game while retaining everything that makes Halo...Halo and nothing like Far Cry 😅

That looked MUCH BETTER. That's what I'm talking about.

I complained like a teething toddler when that first showcase happened.

Dude, the part where he jump out of one aircraft, rocketed one and then grappled to the next and took it over? Are you kidding me!? If you're not impressed by this you're out of your mind.

The world looked crisp. The enemies improved. I like how they gave the banished helmets (I see what they did there, wink wink) Character models looked great.

This is open world? I would say that for an open world this looks great...but honestly, the game just looks great, period, end of sentence. Hats off to 343. They proved me wrong and I'm glad to admit it.

Not the sexiest in the neighbourhood but it looks fun. I hope they apply some make-up on the series S/X and PC versions.

I’m glad they’ve finally seemingly made the game that can satisfy both the legacy Bungie fans and the fans of 4 and 5.

The hyperbole around 343 has always made me laugh though. They’ve made 3 critically acclaimed games, with Halo 5’s multiplayer being lauded as one of the best in the series and the MCC being one of the best games of the generation full stop. They’ve always had the gunplay down, even in Halo 4. The way people talk about them you’d think they are some shitty mobile dev.

As you say, they must be feeling very good right now.

It seems very very focused on vehicles (one aspect of Halo I never cared much about), and with the game turning open world esque I'm sure you're more than ever HAVE to use them to get your ass around in a somewhat meaningful fashion. I don't know. Cautiously optimistic; super hyped I am not ..

And most importantly: eyebrows!

I seriously think the old Craig was supposed to have beard and eyebrows but the models weren’t finished when they showed him the first time. He has those lighter spots where his eyebrows were supposed to be, exactly the same thing you see in women that go a beauty makeover if they remove previously very bushy eyebrows.

Halo 4 had a great campaign IMO, Halo5 was okay but I think that the forced team player experience didn't really work that well.

Halo Infinite looks to be amazing, lots of Halo 1/2 vibes.

Graphically HI looks great as well, sharp high resolution image makes it look really pleasant and clear. Art style derives from early Halos and I love it too.

I’m impressed. Will be playing this with my family and friends.
The only thing that really bothered me was the new AI name “the weapon”. Karen would have been a better name. Still, what a turnaround 👍

Looks really good, much better than last year. Probably the only good thing fanboy warriors have ever done to gaming.

The gameplay was in the 8 min demo and the sound design too, but now they've smashed it for the game engine. After a poor launch (in terms of games that used or showed off the hardware) The Series X is going to have a brilliant end to the year. It so looks like all those happy memories of 1st playing the wonder of Halo over Christmas 2001 are going to be replicated for Christmas 2021

So the multiplayer had tons of deer beasts in forests and that herd of monsters running around in it and looked just as good as that trailer? I'm sorry but from what i've seen of the multiplayer and the campaign gameplay does not match up with that original trailer. Now some of those elements like the gear, caves, vehicles, and equipment can be in the game but the trailer honestly just seems like a fake. I'm guessing they got a couple of the "stuff"(failing to find a better a word) they had created for the halo game and made a trailer for the game. Plus the gameplay we supposedly saw was a director's cut of the visuals since I doubt we would be staring at the vehicle driving from the side in the distance in the game instead of from the back like we saw in the gameplay trailer a year later.

The only ones who seemed pissed or complaining about not being able to troll threads anymore are the Sony guys. Literally nobody else cares.

343I is under fire because they've managed to get Halo from one of the biggest franchises in the business to semi-irrelevent in the timespan of 10 years.

Halo 4's multiplayer was easily the worst in the series. Campaign was allright but a far cry from Halo 3
Halo5's single player was the worst in the series. Multiplayer was great after 2 years but everybody had left by then.
MCC: Broken for the first couple of years. Nowadays indeed one of the best games around, but the first couple of years really didn't help their reputation.

They finally seem to grasp Halo with Infinite, but let's not pretend like they've got a good track record.

Next gen is a term that has been around for 30 damn years. It's anything related to the new consoles. The new consoles and their games are "next gen". I don't understand why people take issue with this. Havnt you been around for any of the previous generations? It'll be around for a couple years until the systems no longer feel new and people start talking about the upcoming 10th gen consoles, the "next, next gen".

Because Cross gen games are a thing people get caught up in the semantics of next gen. Console warring doesn't help. Because cross gen games are now a thing people have to draw the distinction between what is cross gen vs next gen when in fact all cross gen games should be called next gen so long as they're taking advantage of the new systems in some way.

MCC is still super broken unless your on PC. Fuck 343. They are a shitty dev when it comes to the way they treat their fans. MCC is unplayable on xb1x for the past year after they broke it in a patch. They could give a shit about fixing it. I hate this company for that despite their games being good.

MCC is perfectly playable atm on all xbox consoles. I've been playing Reach and H3 MLG daily. What kind of problems are you running into?

Improvement over last year but still short of a big tent pole game. It felt like a 7.5 type of game better than the 6 of last year. Keep Joe Staten fire the rest of the studio management and get better people. I'll play it I'm hoping it has interesting missions that makes or breaks sandbox games.
