the best comedy role i have seen in a while , great onscreen death too
Do you think there are any redeeming qulities of the 2018 film?.
Not badly made I guess. But the implausibility of a space faring alien with high tech weapons and a cloaking device getting bested by a teen girl wearing deerskin who has never seen a gun before is just a bit too hard to swallow
After sleeping on it Prey is OK at best but Men_in_Boxes is just doing auto pilot anti-progressive opinions. It's boring. Just go into the Critical Drinker comments section and hope he notices you.lol @ people getting so upset at Men_in_Boxes.
If you really liked the movie, it shouldn't be bothering you if another poster is calling it woke garbage.
I'm surprised at the good reception it's getting and I'll probably watch it this weekend.
And I hate to discuss "woke" stuff, because the term is overused so much these days as to make it virtually meaningless (I've yet to see someone actually articulate what it even means within their society and why it is bad)
Wokeness is valuing race and gender over merit and quality of character.
It's bad because it allows immoral or incapable people to pass, and prevents moral and capable people from progressing.
It's a greenlight to believe "I don't really care what happened as long as a member of my tribe won."
It's 2022, you finally have a working definition to use going forward.
But do you think TheQuartering deep down just dislikes women and uses intersectional feminism as a front(motte-and-bailey fallacy) to mock/complain about them or is that stuff cringy and worthy of mocking? All those YouTube losers are the same fucking dude: usually overweight, beards, sat in front of their collections of plastic nerd shit, and whining about women![]()
ALways remember, they are the same type of person as those who cry about anti-woke people. None of them are sane. All those YouTube losers are the same fucking dude: usually overweight, beards, sat in front of their collections of plastic nerd shit, and whining about women![]()

For me i just hated it. From the giant Predator that seemed to be included just for something new, to the weird humour throughout the film, the shit action, the awful script. Everything was just so dumb and felt it was made by someone who didnt know the franchise, and that shouldnt be the case with Shane Black who said the franchise is super important to him for obvious reasons.

We don't know much about each other so I'm not sure how logical that statement is. I bet we have more in common than our digital tribal identities suggest. Its funny.... the people you'd call woke agree with you on that because that's the definition of racial supremacist and misogyny.
Can you say something less vague so that we can reach some kind of understanding? There is no country in earth's history that is perfect, but valuing merit and character over tribal affiliation should be embraced by the large majority. I don't find wokeness encourages that. The absolute irony of this comment in modern day America is hilarious.
You're somewhat correct here. I think my pushback on this film comes from how obsessed woke people are with representation in media. If you swapped the genders and races with different groups, tweaked the story to fit the swaps, woke people would lose their ever loving minds and the Tomatoes score would plummet. And it doesn't apply to this film at all. Congratulations, you just played yourself.
I also think the movie is objectively

The problem is that what you attribute wokeness to doesn't match your own definition. Can you say something less vague so that we can reach some kind of understanding? In a way, I'm just playing by their (pathetic) rules.
I also think the movie is objectively terrible even after ignoring all that stuff.
Who? Who do I claim to be against that would agree with my definition? That has nothing to do with what i said.. i didn't say anything about you specifically, or myself. Based on YOUR OWN definition of "wokeness" there's a lot of people you claim to be against that would agree with you.
Notice the tactic you used here. I'm not sure if it was conscious or not.Nonsense. We've gotten tons of movies that have been led by a white straight male and have been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike across the board.
Steam is literally spouting from my ears right now. Then you dont know what objective means.
LolWho? Who do I claim to be against that would agree with my definition?

I say: "Swap all the genders and groups in this movie..."
You say "Plenty of movies with white male leads..."
That's not what I said. There are essentially 3 major representation groups in Prey. The female protagonist, her male dominated culture that oppresses here, and evil white capitalists.
Find me a movie that swaps all 3 groups for representations woke people would be upset about.
Are there movies with male leads, surrounded by toxic women, and an evil minority group that is stereotyped to death, that the white male lead must defeat?
It doesn't exist. Why? Because it would be called racist and misogynist and no one affiliated with the film would be able to work in Hollywood again.
If you're representation obsessed, as the woke are, don't be surprised when we notice who your representing and in what way.

I'm only sorta kidding
Is the woman in this film, IIRC dutiful to her customs and willing to be a wife to Tom Cruise, considered "toxic femininity" today?
It's an entirely different story...Maybe it's in the comics.
I would guess that since this was a predator's first foray on earth and he got iced, more were immediately attracted to the planet for the assumed challenge. One probably got that chief and took the gun as a trophy.

At no point is her culture shown to be oppressing her.Notice the tactic you used here. I'm not sure if it was conscious or not.

Given that you clearly didn't even understand the character dynamics in this movie that you are talking about, in that the men weren't toxic to her because she was a woman but because she wasn't as good as they were at hunting, im not sure you'll be convinced by anything I could list. But the idea of a white male having to defeat a tribe of evil minorities, usually depicted as savages, and /or saving "the good ones" of the minority group from the bad minority guy is so ingrained in film that it has its own trope name. You can find elements of it in everything from Indiana Jones to Lawrence of arabia.Find me a movie that swaps all 3 groups for representations woke people would be upset about.

This was actually a good suggestion.
It also praises Japanese culture and villanizes the West (White) a great deal, so I wouldn't count it.
Great movie btw. Not woke. Would recommend.
Predators targeting autistic children because that disorder is the 'next step in human evolution' and a 'genetic super power' was so mind blowingly stupid that I was speechless when it transpired on screen. Pretty sure that preceded the super predator and the dogs. The "normal" predator was pretty good, his suit/mark and general mannerisms were Ok.
And then the super predator and predator dogs happened.

People do it all the time based on brand badging on gaming side…How are you supposed to enjoy a movie if someone hasn't told you whether you are allowed to like it first.
Let's be honest here. He probably looks like 90 percent of gaf. He's no specimen but neither are most of us. If you created a thread about a movie and then a poster comes in, takes a dump on it to bait others into discussing potential hidden agendas, then ends up making the thread more about himself than the movie, what would your logical reaction be?lol @ people getting so upset at Men_in_Boxes.

I don't know what you're asking here. Can you rephrase? How do you have such a clear idea who you're against but don't know who I'm referring to when I say "people you claim to be against"?
So the kind old woman who is preparing food, watching the protagonist sharpen her axe, and asking "Why do you want to hunt?", the boys criticizing her and fighting her due to her wanting to hunt...didn't ring oppression to you? The wink at the young girl at the end, as if to say "girl power"...wasn't overt for you?At no point is her culture shown to be oppressing her.
Dead Buffalo with pelts removed = capitalism raping mother nature. And how exactly are these men capitalists? They make no mention of capitalism, or socialism, or buying or selling land? They are settlers, colonizers... where on earth are you getting capitalism from?
Wait...you think it was completely random that the first scene in the movie was of her picking carrots...and the old woman preparing food not wanting her to hunt?Given that you clearly didn't even understand the character dynamics in this movie that you are talking about, in that the men weren't toxic to her because she was a woman but because she wasn't as good as they were at hunting, im not sure you'll be convinced by anything I could list.

I haven't seen Pocahontas in it's entirety, maybe ever, but if I recall there's solid representation all around. John Smith and Pocahontas are good natured + brave etc...and they likely have at least one wise good hearted member from their tribe telling them not to judge the other side. But movies like that do exist. Ever seen pocahontas? Avatar, which ripped off pocahontas? The only difference is the bad guy is also a white guy lol.
Woke Priestess Ibram X Kendi preaches "The only remedy for past discrimination is current discrimination and the only remedy for current discrimination is future discrimination.Let's not forget the Moses movie in which Moses is played by a white British guy and has to save all the israelites from the eeeevil Egyptians? Or when they cast a white kid as aang from the last Airbender and changed the sympathetic inuit tribe to white people, but the bad guys were all Indians?
We've never had this much racist trash clog our media channels since the 1940's, 1950's...maybe ever? This woke nonsense is big business at this point. Its time to end thus brain rot. There are plenty of questionable film choices we can purse over but focusing all your attention on looking for ones you don't like while being blinded to the fact this stuff has been going on for a while makes you no different than the people you claim to be against.
Yeah!Saying it doesn't exist is brain rot indeed.
you havent explained which part of this movie is wokeWe've never had this much racist trash clog our media channels since the 1940's, 1950's...maybe ever? This woke nonsense is big business at this point.
One thing I think many fail to consider is frequency and potency. Propaganda isn't a binary tool...its feathered to varying degrees with each endeavor. Saying it doesn't exist is brain rot indeed.
Btw, I've had my niece come home and tell her parents that she's one of two straight girls in her class. All the other 9 year old girls are LGBTQ. This media crap matters.
