The "normal" predator was pretty good, his suit/mark and general mannerisms were Ok.
And then the super predator and predator dogs happened.

Watched it last night with the gf. We both enjoyed it, she loved it. It's a big step in the right direction for the brand which has been flailing all over the place since the OG.
I'll get the negative out of the way first:
- CGI is awful. Just be prepared for it going in. I'll never understand why directors who know they don't have the CGI budget, still have the "money shots". Use practical effects, or hide the CGI during nighttime or rain. This frustrates me tremendously. All of the animals should've been practical effects, and they never should've shown the predator during daylight in focus. The active camo effect looks stupid; just make him completely invisible. There is one shot of the predator during nighttime/in the fog that I would literally hang on my wall though, it's really cool.
- The acting. It's totally fine for this type of movie, however it's not believable whatsoever that these characters are Comanches. There's a "disconnect", it's not a big deal but it keeps the film from reaching its potential.
That's really all I have as far as straight negatives, and for most people they're probably nitpicks. Everything else in the movie is fine to good. Some of the cinematography is straight up beautiful - the world is a character in itself, just like the jungle in the OG. I liked the main character and her dog (the dog was adopted for the film btw, I encourage you to read up on the dog's story because it's really sweet). Naru has an arch in the film that's easy to follow and services the plot just fine.
For the "woke" arguments all I'll say is if you think this movie is "woke" you've been poisoned. Not gonna bother expanding on that.
It's a personal 7/10 for me which I admit is inflated subjectively - objectively it probably sits around 6/10. It's a tight film that doesn't overstay its welcome or try to be anything more than what it is. For the Predator franchise I think it goes in the win column. It's not a classic, it doesn't stack up against major action films (which isn't a fair comparison), but it's extremely decent.

I think they tried to sell it because the predator was using slightly less advanced tech and he had been shot dozens of times by the colonists and stabbed by the brother.
Still, imo killing a wounded predator should have been a collaborative effort between the sister and brother/rest of tribe. Fine, they want the female to lead the charge to show women run shit now too. Ok, but not alone.

Movie started decent-ish, but it doesn't really go anywhere really interesting.
It has none of the visceral feeling the original has, and it can't be said enough how the hero chick can not run to save her life (pun intended).
The actress simply does not know how to run, they really should have used a double or something, cose those scenes are embarassingly slow and lazy.

We don't know much about each other so I'm not sure how logical that statement is. I bet we have more in common than our digital tribal identities suggest.
Can you say something less vague so that we can reach some kind of understanding? There is no country in earth's history that is perfect, but valuing merit and character over tribal affiliation should be embraced by the large majority. I don't find wokeness encourages that.
You're somewhat correct here. I think my pushback on this film comes from how obsessed woke people are with representation in media. If you swapped the genders and races with different groups, tweaked the story to fit the swaps, woke people would lose their ever loving minds and the Tomatoes score would plummet.
In a way, I'm just playing by their (pathetic) rules.
I also think the movie is objectively terrible even after ignoring all that stuff.

Watched about half this half asleep last night.
The setting was fantastic and not overdone which is hard to do in something that needs to be well cooked.
The lower budget on effects made it feel more personal. The story has been very personal too.
I'm at the voyageurs now, I'm very glad that the film didn't go Apocalypto with the language with the cultural setting. Lots of fun so far.

That has nothing to do with what i said.. i didn't say anything about you specifically, or myself. Based on YOUR OWN definition of "wokeness" there's a lot of people you claim to be against that would agree with you.
The problem is that what you attribute wokeness to doesn't match your own definition.
Nonsense. We've gotten tons of movies that have been led by a white straight male and have been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike across the board. Top gun Maverick is an easy example. Its a great movie. Yes it features competent male characters that just happen to be competent, but have learning and growth to do just like this movie does but for a female. This is what we want.
And that's far from the only movie either. Gray man was pretty awesome too, and has an insanely competent white male character. No one has a problem with that. Also see literally every superhero movie released before 2017, aside from blade. Most of the good ones are well received. These "rules" sound more like an obsession and brain rot from overexposure to fringe takes on Twitter. Theres plenty of regular people elsewhere. Using the most extreme cases ok which to build a foundation for an argument will only make you look just as extreme and out of touch.

That's not what I said. There are essentially 3 major representation groups in Prey. The female protagonist, her male dominated culture that oppresses here, and evil white capitalists.
Find me a movie that swaps all 3 groups for representations woke people would be upset about.
Are there movies with male leads, surrounded by toxic women, and an evil minority group that is stereotyped to death, that the white male lead must defeat?

This was actually a good suggestion.
It also praises Japanese culture and villanizes the West (White) a great deal, so I wouldn't count it.
Great movie btw. Not woke. Would recommend.

Not a bad film. Not amazing but I enjoyed it for what it was worth.
CGI is bloody odd. 87 film looked better than this.
Other than that, it's a fun romp.

At no point is her culture shown to be oppressing her.
And how exactly are these men capitalists? They make no mention of capitalism, or socialism, or buying or selling land? They are settlers, colonizers... where on earth are you getting capitalism from?
Given that you clearly didn't even understand the character dynamics in this movie that you are talking about, in that the men weren't toxic to her because she was a woman but because she wasn't as good as they were at hunting, im not sure you'll be convinced by anything I could list. But the idea of a white male having to defeat a tribe of evil minorities, usually depicted as savages, and /or saving "the good ones" of the minority group from the bad minority guy is so ingrained in film that it has its own trope name. You can find elements of it in everything from Indiana Jones to Lawrence of arabia.
But movies like that do exist. Ever seen pocahontas? Avatar, which ripped off pocahontas? The only difference is the bad guy is also a white guy lol.
Let's not forget the Moses movie in which Moses is played by a white British guy and has to save all the israelites from the eeeevil Egyptians? Or when they cast a white kid as aang from the last Airbender and changed the sympathetic inuit tribe to white people, but the bad guys were all Indians?
Its time to end thus brain rot. There are plenty of questionable film choices we can purse over but focusing all your attention on looking for ones you don't like while being blinded to the fact this stuff has been going on for a while makes you no different than the people you claim to be against.

I'm going to rewatch Prey, but:
did anyone notice how the one Comanche hunter with Midthunder up in the tree hunting the lion was never addressed? Like he seemingly was killed and nobody in the tribe nor her brother even commented on his loss? That's the only part of the movie that stood out to me was something of a plothole. Not even a mention in passing.

It was alright, had some nice cinematography. Preferred the Comanche dub for immersion.
There were some contrived parts that had me rolling my eyes like the scene where Naru physically took on several grown men on her own without so much as a scratch.
Also, this predator manages to wipe out an entire group of Frenchmen, kills a grizzly bear with one punch, but struggles to kill this small woman. lol
The comically evil Frenchmen element was dumb.
I didn't particularly like how often it kept cutting away from the more visceral, gory deaths either. Felt rather cheap.
It was a decent watch, really don't get what all the hype was about though.
More of a one-and-done for me.

So the kind old woman who is preparing food, watching the protagonist sharpen her axe, and asking "Why do you want to hunt?", the boys criticizing her and fighting her due to her wanting to hunt...didn't ring oppression to you? The wink at the young girl at the end, as if to say "girl power"...wasn't overt for you?

I haven't seen Pocahontas in it's entirety, maybe ever, but if I recall there's solid representation all around. John Smith and Pocahontas are good natured + brave etc...and they likely have at least one wise good hearted member from their tribe telling them not to judge the other side.
So yeah, there are some pretty vast differences between woke propaganda and Pocahontas, which just teaches colorblindness.
