When Apple tells you the price and you initially think they're joking:

I mean, on the one hand $3500, but on the other you're basically getting a full on m2 device with integrated 4k display and all the sensors. It's still a lot but I expect the pretentious influencers will be wearing it as a status symbol more than anything. It's well out of mere mortal territory though.

It's a whole lot of kit for the price but I'd need to check it out to see are taking the absolute piss or just the piss as someone who loves VR you can't tell shit until you've tried it yourself but man 3D movies in 4K HDR on an IMAX screen in your living room.... Hmmmmm

Price actually isn't bad considering the tech. Still not interested enough to get one. It would end up collecting dust next to my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro.

No fucker outside a few hipster wankers will use this for home computing, or watching movies, or any of the other brainless shit they tried to sell, instead of VR.
This is clearly not a gamer's device, the audience is different than here at gaf. So I think the people who can afford it will. It's just that very few can..

Looks like a (rare?) miss IMO.

Apple succeed because their design language is pretty timeless (in phones/computing).

This is pretty… ugh. Typical VR basically. They should have waited to just do it as glasses.

For the tech it houses 3500 USD is a fair price. It's also not the most expensive product shown on the conference. We will see how it does.

Yeah id you look at what MS had. This Vision Pro is so much more powerful and advanced it’s really not that expensive compared to other high end AR/VR products.

Apple are going to go right alongside Meta with losing billions on AR/VR.

Just making a fucking light, cheap headset that plays triple AAA games and experiences at high fidelity, you morons. Nobody wants your big screen floating in space, or recording your kids in 3d horseshit.

It isn't, and the genius of Apple is in the way it is used. See them marketing this first to work environments, in a couple years price will be lower and then they can start selling it to consumers.

Very cool tech, but I am laughing at the ad where they show someone jumping on the sofa or on a plane watching a movie but it has a two hour battery life.
Maybe you can pause and swap batteries. There's a 100 Wh limit on the size of battery you can take on a plane, so I don't know how airlines would feel about you bringing on a bagful of them for a long flight.

This will definitely be a niche product until they can get it at least half the price or wireless/sunglass form factor. No wonder rumored reception was meh.

Their main problem is that you need to experience it. Sure some people will take a leap, but most people will need to experience it, and that's more difficult.

The iPhone was a snap to get and understand, this thing isn't. Can I actually read text? how far would I need to be zoomed in.

Overall nice product, but even with the price, not sure it's fully baked in terms of uses (well, except 3d porn).

Massively wrong there, plenty of other companies have been doing that for years.

And it’s a closed ecosystem. I used to complain that VR is like playing mobile games because devs don’t invest properly in VR. Well, this IS mobile games. Literally. It’s the iOS and Apple Arcade library. Playable on a $3499 device. Probably $4k+ at my location. And that’s starting at…

A lot of people can afford it, especially people in this forum. Have you seen the TV threads? It's just that its a stupid price for what you get.

Before everyone that waddles into this thread has the same fucking out of touch meltdown that they always do here are some prices of similar devices aimed at businesses and professionals.

Apple has been working on and developing AR/VR for at least 6 years. A trillion dollar company that has made that on consumer products knows that their new product line won’t be a hit with the masses if it’s totally unaffordable. I expect a base consumer version to be 699-999 depending on how aggressive they want to get to build a user base.
I'm just going to quote myself from March.

Will it run standalone? Will it be 3.5x better than the ps5 & psvr2 setup? $3500 god damn... never will afford one 😂 what games will be available for it? Mac ones?

damnit, I said I wouldnt buy it... but damn are they good at making me want it. Really should hold off till Gen 2 though... basically a rule at this point with apple stuff.

People are pricing this mentally as a gaming device. It's almost everything but a gaming device first and foremost.

Yeah I know, I'm one of them. But since I'm only looking for an even more niche headset (new gen tethered pancake headset for PC simulators), I don't see much use in it for me. It's also Apples foot in the door for the future, a V1 device in a walled garden.. So.. yeah.. IDK..

The sad thing here is that this thing will make every other headset look bad, looking into this thing and then go back to your Quest 2 will make you want to throw the Quest in the trash, but nobody will afford the Apple thing anyway so it’ll likely kill the VR industry instead of giving it a boost.
