This would have the same effect. The base model will ultimate anchor the Pro model. Releasing two in tandem is the wrong choice IMO. People will wonder what could have been if the Pro was the base model on release.

Exactly, Sony will never do this. You have the main console and the enhanced consoles a few years later...

Releasing two different hardware specs at the same time is completely stupid...

It confuses the consumer and makes the weaker consoles the base model anyway

That's right if we count the total amount of WGP the GPU has active vs disable.

But rumored specs of the pro suggested there are 3 shader engines so that equals 60 CUs or 30 WPGs unless Sony goes with 4 SEs for 64 CUs or 32 WPGs.

You are ignoring the hundreds of times he got things wrong.
The reality is that he is just a bottom feeder, picking any random crap he sees in chinese forums. Or crap that he makes up himself.

Zen4c would use less die area, result in a slightly smaller, cheaper chip and have superior performance.

Jaguar was used again in the PS4 Pro because the focus was almost entirely resolution for 4K TVs and no real evolution of that chip was available.

BC is the only thing I can think off but I'm having a hard time believing they can't bridge that gap.. outside of this, choosing Zen2 would be an arbitrary decision.

They'd be leaving ~35% CPU perf on the table, before a clock bump.. and if they're going heavy on RT, they'll need every drop of CPU power to help out (memory bandwidth too).

If they want to double raster and ray tracing performance then the CPU and GPU will be choking on bandwidth. Unless they have sort of Infinity Cache solution.

Zen 2 would be decently smaller than Zen 4. I agree that Zen 4 would be worth it but it's possible the space saved was a big enough issue. As for 4c perhaps the timeframe just didn't fit for it.

The patent from last year has sony using an RTU for ray calculation and then sending it to the GPU shader for outing on screen.

The rumor of accelerated Gpu performance probably comes from this.

The pro will be the premiere RT machine for AMD because it will be doing what nvidia has been doing for years with tensor

Tom Henderson mentioned a while back that the PS5 Pro developer kits would be sent to first parties towards the end of the year (which is likely now). Although I suspect we'll get some proper leaks when the third party studios get their hands on it.
