Phil Spencer: announcement this week

Now seriously, which day of the week would be most logical for that event? No rules or...? I'm tired of this shit.

There is no logical timing unless they expect the news to impact negatively the stock price and in that case it would be reserved for a Friday....
But in this case it's either no impact or actually it might positively affect the stock price.
Telling investors that they're done supporting a failed console brand and they're looking to grow as a leading publisher is only a positive news in investors' eyes.....so the announcement could be any time next week.

I'm gonna laugh if this is business development is mostly good news... porting hi-fi rush and sea of thieves to PS5/Switch but otherwise lay out the road map for the next xbox consoles, finally fully bring out gamepass family plan, announce some more smaller acquisitions maybe? Everyone is expecting phil to get fired, gamepass cancelled, xbox going full third party, and death of hardware and brand.
Everyone? Not even the majority. I think most sensible people think Xbox will have some third-party games but not all. Even here on GAF over 62% think MS will keep some games exclusive to Xbox. At least for Phil's announcement next week.

No, they aren't.

Besides, games being ported means the floodgates are open. Can't really laugh your way out of that one.

Wait this dude is actually a grown man? WTF??

What a sad motherfucker,I feel sorry for the parents
All the warriors on Twitter and here and on any board are all grown men and women, many gray ones. Thought this was wellknown by now. Kids play Fortnite and Roblox, on phones and PCs, they don’t care this much about consoles, maybe they play some Switch but that’s about it. Anecdotal evidence is all I have but it’s substantial in numbers when thinking about my kids and all their friends and school mates and what they talk about. Even people in the 20s don’t seem to care about console war, going by coworkers they’re all PC gamers, playing CS, Apex, almost only multiplayer games.
Console war is for dinosaurs. And Microsoft’s business update could be the asteroid impact that will make them all go extinct.

Cohh carnage just expressed my opinions perfectly on all of this and how it's gone down over this last week on his twitch podcast thing he does.

Just tuned in at the right time. I'm not sure if they upload to YouTube afterwards so it can be shared?

Nah, the rot began to set in before XBO. From 2010 onward, when MS stopped focusing on core-orientated exclusives for the 360 right as Sony was rebuilding the PS3 with tons of high-quality, core-orientated 1P and 2P exclusives.

Also 3P finally getting to grips with Cell and multiplats starting to look as good as or better than 360 versions didn't help, either. It was all a sign of things to come, but Kinect's breakout success distracted from the first signs of brand rot setting in.

Yeah I saw Colin Moriarty and another person also talking about this, and it makes sense.

When SEGA basically blurbed out that the Saturn wasn't their future, 3P started cancelling in-development Saturn games en masse. It was nasty. Just tons and tons of games getting cancelled, shifted over to PS1 & N64, and in some cases to Dreamcast. That further damaged revenue SEGA got from the platform in 1997 and especially 1998; it basically accelerated its demise.

Microsoft would want to avoid a similar mistake with their console platform so even if they are planning to make a shift, they don't want 3P to get a whiff of it and start cancelling Xbox versions of their games, especially since I doubt Microsoft have communicated these plans with them yet (could be why the thing next week is a "business update", not just some regular public-facing stream or blog post).

They can't have Xbox revenue on the 3P front just completely collapse; even if it's been on the decline, there's still something present on that front. Best to just gradually communicate these plans over the long-term piecemeal when they get to those parts of the larger shift, and ease 3P and customers (particularly the diehard fans) into a state of acceptance and comfort with the changes.

The Kinect seemed to be the shift where Microsoft higher-ups really saw Xbox's potential and tried to turn it into a "family" console or home entertainment system.

XB1 had the right idea, the execution was just horrible. E3 is a gamer-only conference, but the E3 presentation was something you'd expect from an Apple Event or Tech event

It was too focused on other features, they should have doubled down on the games and used another conference for the whole "sports sports, xbox go home"

To this day, I still respect Microsoft for XB1. They took a risk, and it seemed ahead of its time.

Good to know, general feeling ive been getting this week

I think, personally, quite a few things will come over. I don't think that it'll be *everything, everywhere* like some folks believe, but I do think it'll set a precedent there's no real coming back from unless they go in a different direction than a base console in the future, as some have said.

I think it'll cause further damage to Series sales(and all this probably has already, considering how news travels or is interpreted) but I no longer think they care about that.

I think this is about getting more revenue to justify their acquisitions, as well as set a standard going forward I've not seen many people touch on.

Say they go the Ecosystem route and then buy out Ubisoft or EA. Regulators may go crazy, but they can say "Hey. They still get the games, but if you want to play them first, gotta subscribe into our ecosystem."

Kinda like EGS store exclusives?

Ohhhh... I get it, a subtle reverse psych subliminal plant.

Creating a false narrative on the actual thing that is supposed to be bad but portraying it as some sort of positive.

They can lay out the map for Xbox consoles till 2040 if they want. Doesnt mean they actually do any of that shit. But even more importantly, you shouldn't even believe them, especially if releasing their games on PS5 is any part of that road map. Or if they do not reiterate that xbox exclusives will stay exclusive and not come to PS5, like they have been saying for the past 4 years.

You guys think that's pathetic? He's now trying rebrand himself as the Howard Stern of videogames(his actual words) just because a bunch of poeple tuned in to his twitter spaces. People only tuned in for the meltdowns and now he wants to a be a shock jock of games. He's the most uncharismatic dude ever. If you listen to him talk he sounds like he fighting for every breathe, straight up clown.
