Phil Spencer: announcement this week

Sorry. Forgot to add the obvious sarcasm signpost. To be fair, it is pretty obvious sarcasm. Who the fuck would actually think this? Not even the most rabid Xbox fanboys would be this optimistic.

That's twice this has happened recently, so I'm just going to avoid sarcastic attempts from now on.
Fair play to you, but you've only recently become enlightened and that's the kinda stuff some xbox fans actually actually say. I mean wait until Phils ball cleaner shows up. (Adamsapple)

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
The fact that Spencer, Bond and Booty are the ones doing this showcase should be seen as a positive for Xbox fans in that the worst fate of Xbox will be avoided.

But we all have different views on the worst fate.

I admit that I have no clue what to expect. It’s hard for me to imagine that if all they were going to say was HiFi Rush and Sea of Thieves were coming that they would need this showcase.

Xbox department 2005-2013 would like a word. They were on the money with great service, games, online, even pioneering at some point.
You do realize that you are saying the exact same thing I just said right? And sorry to break it to you, but this isn't 2013. Priorities, management, shit changes.

Again, the tri8ck is to follow a company/platform whose priorities, align with yours. And you see how far back you had to go with Xbox? That means that anyone that was or is still following them... even after all of 2013-2020... has no one to be blame but themselves.

But here is another example of this, and this is a true story cause it happened with me. My first proper console was a Nintendo. the NES, SNES, and almost with the N64. See the thing is that in addition to graphics, I liked stories, and also liked the idea that I was on the bleeding edge of tech on consoles. This is why My best game on the SNES was Final Fantasy. I didn't just jump onto PlayStation, I waited for Nintendo, then found out that they were not using discs, and still going with Carts. So I switched. I told myself then that Nintendo was never going to prioritize the kinda things that I am into. And it turns out that I was right.

Because I ended up with MGS and FF never came to the N64. You see? Go with a platform whose priorities align with yours.

Yeah, but Hi Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves going multiplatform could have been a post on Xbox Wire. That news would have come and gone in less time than they took to scramble this "business event" together.

A podcast, though? What Scott Disick does from his bathtub? That's amateur shit

And why let the XBOX name take damage from this for that long?

What damage? some speculative articles that will have been proven to be wrong "In fact, post Activision acquisition Xbox revenue is stronger than ever" and some cry baby influencers that are going to back pedal and celebrate the non-death of their favorite plastic box?

In the eyes of general consumers this probably didn't even register a blip on the radar.

An audio podcast on thursday.

This means:
  • they are not showing any new games for xbox
  • it IS bad news. If it wasn’t, they would’ve already responded after all this noise
  • same day as nintendo direct and AFTER it. The Direct, which has been teased as a partner showcase, has just become 100x more interesting…(gives me a new thread idea…cya!)

Major changes or just all hands on deck positive reinforcement of current business plans?

It could go either way but at this point i think this is all going to end up a big nothingburger.
It won't be a nothingburger in the sense that they will absolutely alude to 3rd party releases.

It will be a nothingburger however because MS has some of the best PR fluff makers in the world.

We will finish it and still have a 0% concrete idea of what the fuck is actually going on except for some "up to interpretation" statements that people will argue about for the years to come

Didn’t they wait for a Nintendo Direct one time to confirm the Ori port to Switch? I could be mistaken

Not sure, but it was announced in a blog post.

Don’t you think XBOX’s name is a tad bit tarnished this week? That’s what I mean by “damage”

I feel bad for XBOX. Their reputation is not good as of late

I swear pretty much every podcast talking about this topic linked here or that i checked on YT have had the most basic milktoast take on it, so superficial, i think i've read better analysis/discussion of the possible ramifications in this forum.
The best personalities i've seen talking about this is Colin from LSM or Richard from Digital Foundry, he was making interesting arguments and pushing back on John and Alex in that podcast linked a couple of pages earlier.
Maybe it is just my confirmation bias speaking though.

To me, the fact that they are doing this on the official Xbox podcast and not giving one of their Xbox influencer podcasts any love is because they want zero pushback or follow up questions. Nothing but the echo chamber.

That actually makes sense. They certainly don't want people blowing up in the middle of this.

They have a message that they want 100% control over. They know they can't mess it up which is why eliminating outside influencers is probably a smart choice.

Or because it’s just a podcast, does it mean they are just saying some games are going multiplatform and they’re renaming Xbox Gamepass to Microsoft Gamepass?

My prediction is that Halo and Flight Simulator, etc, won't go to PlayStation and Nintendo any time soon, but all of the studios they snapped up — all of that will port over. Hardware will continue.

Game pass will stay on Xbox, Phil will make sure to emphasise the value for loyals there but also the generosity of "when everyone plays we all win, blah blah blah." A consumer friendly angle will be bolded, etc. Some hardcore shills will be pissy and do pissy things and go into therapy over a plastic box, but all in all everyone will return to regular programming soon enough. Maybe a handheld announcement, idk. Having eyes on the mobile market makes sense currently.

When the hell is this update going to happen my popcorn is getting cold. Update: just saw it will be a podcast on the 15th.

Big non-gaming outlets in my Twitter feed ran the story of Halo, Gears, etc. going multiplat. The word's out there to some extend beyond manbaby nuts.

Soooo they again did nothing to adress the rumours? Just said STFU and listen to our podcast?!?

Man fuck them and everything they stand for. In my eyes this is the same as throwing in the towel. As if they don't want to fight for their right to exist..
