Game Pass Ultimate Subscribers Make up 70-80% of Total Game Pass Users
A recent statistic regarding Game Pass Ultimate has been revealed that may surprise some gamers who subscribe to the Game Pass service.fandomwire.com
Probably a little more skewed now that Gold -> Core is also counted in GP, but still likely the overwhelming majority.
For PC, Game Pass Ultimate’s share of Microsoft’s worldwide revenues from multi-game subscription services grew from [20-30]% in 2019 to [70-80]% in 2021. For console, the corresponding share grew from [5-10]% in 2019 to [50-60]% in 2021. (Pg. 132 of the document [134 in PDF counter])
I don't know why people say this... Steam is a far easier problem to tackle than Playstation. MS just threw almost $100B at their PlayStation problem and its made no difference whatsoever. Hell, its even gotten worse to the point they have to release games on PlayStation. They have to compete with Steam, which is a bigger mountain to climb than competing with PlayStation.
Even at its current price PC GamePass is still a bad value (aside from subbing for a month here and there) compared to Steam.
For example, I bought Halo MCC, Every Fallout game ever made, Prey and both Dishonoured games for around $30-$35.
At this point Il would like to really know who lost more money to their company Phil Spencer or Kathleen Kennedy ... at least KK fucks up in the name of her political and feminist agenda ... Phil just fuck ups in sheer incompetence.![]()

I'm calling bullshit. Did you even read the laughable article you linked? They provide no source, offer dubious claims based off some survey they don't even publish data from. Microsoft themselves don't release numbers, the only reason we know the numbers we do is thanks to the FTC leaks and then their recent announcement of Game Pass subscribers in February 2024 (which turned out to be an almost identical number to the total number of subscribers from the leaks dated April 2022).
They certainly didn't split the number of Ultimate/Console/Core/PC.
LikeTopher said, the last number they announced was 34M which included the 11.8M that had been "Xbox Live Gold" but are now Game Pass Core. That figure alone destroys the "70-80%" number because almost a full third are Game Pass Core only.

Yeah, that document doesn't back up the article's claims either.
Wasn't this before Core was a thing? So that vague ass "nearly 70-80%" will be less now.(680) Microsoft has been the first company to heavily invest in cloud gaming as part of its

Of course.
80% ~ GP users are on Ultimate already.

Makes sense, even at $20 a month it’s great value if you play online.
This is something that's constantly overlooked. Just to get online with PSPlus essential / Gamepass Core is $10/month.
Where is the source in that article? Last number we had post-merger of Gold into Game Pass was 34 million. Of those, around 12 million were reported to be Gold previously. So that means 65% were Game Pass as a whole and less than that would be GPU.
The fuck does nearly 70-80% mean?

The source of the numbers isn't 'some survey', it's part of the European Commission report that came out last year when the whole acquisition hooplah was happening.

Yeah,Mr Moose provided that and those are numbers prior to the merger of Gold into Game Pass so they no longer apply.

Yes, I said as much in the post you quoted:
But even with your estimated 65% now, it's still the clear majority of the subscribers out of the 4 tiers (PC, Console, Core, Ultimate).
i've been doing this with current game pass for a year now. played starfield & persona 3 reload. if they disable the ability to do this, that'd be it for me with game pass...Can I just sub to ultimate for one month @ $20 whenever a game comes out?
I swear I get more entertainment out of xbox shenanigans than from any of their games.
That's not just GPU. That's 65% of all Game Pass subscribers. A majority, yes. An "overwhelming majority"? No.
Here's the math:
34 million GP/XLG subscribers combined reported in February
12 million XLG subscribers estimated by
22 million GP subscribers out of that 34 million
17.6 million GPU subscribers. 80% of 22 million
51.7% GPU subscribers of the total 34 million now in GP
That's actually barely a majority.

It looks like more news is coming today. Lol.
"Best deal in gaming" got cancelled.
Game Pass sub count was 25 million in 2022
80% would make it roughly 20~ million GPU subs
Gold count was 11.7 in 2022
Assuming GPU has remained static between then and now and is still roughly 20~ million out of the total 34 million, that puts GPU at roughly ~60% of the total game pass install base (58.8 to be specific)
Not a text book version of overwhelming majority but still a very comfortable majority.
Reading the actual press release it implies some games are never going to make it to the gamepass for console teir

There hasn't been any press release, just a support page.
And the support page says 'some games' will not be available day one, not all games.
I think this will only effect the bigger franchises like CoD, Gears etc. Not all of the first party or third party day 1 game pass output.

I'm pretty sure that section isn't refering to day one releases. The question is will all games available on ultimate also be available on standard day one when it launches

Go home ass, u r drunk.

Either they're refering to something else, or they're contradicting themselves
As many of us suspected, the game pass model was never sustainable
I play games 3 years later but by then they're on deep discount anyway. Sales exist.Seems fine to me. Who wants to play the beta (release) version anyway?

Nice catch! That is definitely leaving the door open for not bringing stuff over at all.And it says right there, may be added
Implying some might not be added.
Is the Game Pass Standard Tier a good or bad idea.
