Ah yes and since they always deliver on the gaming front ... it really is a great value indeed.they just announced the best game lineup we've seen this gen from any console, you cant expect to get all that value at its current low price point.

Nobody's going to pay $15 for year long delays and a heavily redacted library.
PS5 releases are going to be day one, will be MS's primary source of revenue. So, closer to PS5 releases?
Yeah, and that’s a fucking rip off. Just because they are scandalously ripping people off to play peer to peer online doesn’t mean the higher tiers are good value. This is something that's constantly overlooked. Just to get online with PSPlus essential / Gamepass Core is $10/month.
And what’s also overlooked is that PS Plus Essential is actually a really good service, that at this point probably trumps all of the higher tiers on both platforms in terms of bang for buck and quality - even though I hate that they’ve paywalled online play behind it.Yeah, but what is also overlooked is that Essential/Core both have annual options that bring them both down into the $6/month range.
I always said Microsoft would have to change direction to make more money, like not putting games on gamepass day 1 and instead try to sell them, so it's their 1st step in increasing income by charging more for day 1 GP games and i think they will continue to do this depending on how popular it turns out to be, also i don't think the cheaper PC version is that much of a moneymaker in the end as it's still GFWL/Windows Store again for me, so i it won't make me change from Steam or GOG, and a lot more Xbox gamers will pay for the 20 quid ultimate service than the PC one, in fact i wonder how many PC gamers actually pay for it regularly, if it was a lot they would put it up.
Yeah i get it, but if MS put the price up of the PC one would you pay it.Only reason I have Game Pass is because of MS rewards. It would be incredibly difficult justifying paying actual cash, but it is worth the few minutes a day I piddle around to generate points.
Yeah i get it, but if MS put the price up of the PC one would you pay it.
if you only play the game once or for a limited time and don't want to own it, then yeah it's a cheaper choice than buying it, sound strategy. If not for rewards then I'd do what I do with other sub services. Like with the upcoming AC game, I'm going to sub to Ubisoft+ for a month, play the game, and then cancel. I'm not paying cash for an entire year no matter what so I'm not really the guy to ask.
they went where no console had gone before. & then they returned to where another console already had...So realistically this is competing, and I use that term loosely, with PS Plus Extra. The issue for Xbox being PlayStation are putting games like DeS, GoW, TLoU, Horizon and Spider-Man on that service.
Just another ill conceived and poorly executed Xbox plan.
If it's one thing I've learn't over the last few years, MS are experts at chewing off their own feet.Obviously Microsoft wants to push their highest tier of Game Pass and any sooner than 6 months and they'll cannibalize their own subscriptions.
100% this. They jumped a stage of entisement and went right to the top, leaving no room for improvement. Now they have to shuffle some of that goodness back. It was bound to happen.they went where no console had gone before. & then they returned to where another console already had...
I'm sure they are prepping their customer service department for the impending clusterfuck of angry and confused phone calls and emails soon incoming.I think this is going to be confusing to customers. It's not like the ad tiers on the streaming. Not to mention they have been pushing DAY ONE ON GAMEPASS on every single trailer they've been doing for years at this point. Are they going to go back and change all of them?
The more I think about this the more it seems like yet another disaster and unforced error from MS.
So MS doesn't have feet but is still constantly jumping between first and second most valuable company on the planet. Impressive. Imagine what they could do if they had both feet intact.MS are experts at chewing off their own feet.

i think everyone knew that the release of starfield would trigger the beginning of the great reckoning. &, with some extra help from the cod acquisition, it did...
Thats pretty much the same as PS Plus Extra. I pay that for the service, First party Games show up a year later, sometimes more.
Of course and this move is going to make that behavior more popular. Sub, immediately cancel, play what you subbed for, add another month when you find you want to play something else and cancel immediately. Can I just sub to ultimate for one month @ $20 whenever a game comes out?
Difference is Sony doesn't sell a tier with day 1 first/third party games for $5 more. If they did, everyone would be on Premium and no one would be on Extra.

Yea, I feel like they have to edit those, and any other for games not out yet and not on GamePass standard or whatever it's called. At the very least they should go back and edit all the ones from last month's showcase.
Imagine being a non-tech savvy parent who has a kid that wants an Xbox Series S with Game Pass for their birthday and they show you all the games coming "day one on Game Pass" advertised just a month ago. So you're convinced and buy them the Xbox and get them Game Pass Core or Standard because the video said "on Game Pass" and didn't specify tier.
What a flustercuck. Part of me wonders if the confusion is intentional.
All I’ve said is The $14.99 tier GamePass is feature wise identical to PS Plus Extra. And many still consider that good value.
PS never set the expectations for day 1 first party games, which is why relatively to what exists in the PS ecosystem, Extra is good value. The PR problem for Microsoft is that they have set the expectations and essentially trained their userbase to not buy games. So making that pivot is much more challenging than what PS experienced moving to the tier system.
I think we will get shit like Blade, Indiana Jones, and Elder Scrolls 6 but Halo is off the tablePS5 releases are going to be day one, will be MS's primary source of revenue.
Games pass ultimate will be pre-release or Beta access so the games are fixed before venturing on to PlayStation (and in some cases Nintendo Switch 1|2)

Microsoft finally admits that Day One Games were a bad bussiness decision
let's keep this conversation decent, okay?...Phil didn't touch enough wood.
And they all smell bad.y'know, there are a bunch of people that sit around in flashy meeting rooms getting paid stacks of money to come up with this insanity.
absolutely fascinating.
Sadly Sony stopped putting their games on the service (with the exception of old PSP/PS2 games)So realistically this is competing, and I use that term loosely, with PS Plus Extra. The issue for Xbox being PlayStation are putting games like DeS, GoW, TLoU, Horizon and Spider-Man on that service.

Not really. All I’ve said is The $14.99 tier GamePass is feature wise identical to PS Plus Extra. And many still consider that good value.
Thoughts on the upsell to Ultimate are a different matter altogether.
People make a problem from anything ffs, this is just a cheaper tier, you can just have games day 1 if you stay on any other tier, it's a shame for price raise but it was obviously coming soon.
I see this tier mostly for those that really REALLY don't care about day 1 games and only have GP for those titles they play a lot online like Sea Of Thieves and next COD.
Games will cost 80 way before Gamepass goes to 30 IMO. I’d wager games might even hit 90-100 before Gamepass hits 30.Should make a poll. When does Gamepass cost 30$ a month? 2026?
I wonder if this is an attempt to make GP more popular on PC, because rn it's doing poorly on that platform.I always said Microsoft would have to change direction to make more money, like not putting games on gamepass day 1 and instead try to sell them, so it's their 1st step in increasing income by charging more for day 1 GP games and i think they will continue to do this depending on how popular it turns out to be, also i don't think the cheaper PC version is that much of a moneymaker in the end as it's still GFWL/Windows Store again for me, so i it won't make me change from Steam or GOG, and a lot more Xbox gamers will pay for the 20 quid ultimate service than PC gamers will the PC one, in fact i wonder how many PC gamers actually pay for it regularly, if it was a lot they would put it up.

Iirc, isn't the GP installbase <30M (closer to 25M), with 21-23M being on Xbox?
