Your most Unpopular Gaming opinon?

Mario is severely overrated. Like SEVERELY, and mostly coasts on the reputation of truly great and innovative old games like SM64 and SMW. Just looked up Super Mario 3D Land, it has a 90 on Metacritic. If it was a Sonic or some generic Scrimblo without the Nintendo and Mario branding it would be like a 70.

Another one is - indie games aren't that great. Most of them are just "homages" aka formulaic recreations of games that already exist. This affects me particularly as a racing fan cause all we get are shitty rip-offs of OutRun, Daytona or Sega Rally.

God of war (2018) was bad imo.
I'm of this opinion now that Ragnarok released and shat the bed with the story and spectacle.
It retroactively ruined the 2018 game to me because the build up was all for nothing. They didn't raise the bar in any way with incredible boss fights and the massive scale that the previous God of War games did on PS2 and PS3 (hell, even the PSP games did it better).

RPG towns shouldn't have quests or quest markers. Quests should be organic events, not a check list.
I don't think this is unpopular at all. But nobody seems to have the time commitment to immerse themselves anymore.

Did Dragons Dogma 2 quests did this right ?

True, but to be fair, most RPGs actually only show the marker when the quest starts... as in, go here now that you know this.

I don't know much RPGs that outright show the quest and you go to it and it starts or something...

Now that I think of it, I'm not sure I've played a game thats done that.

What RPG is showing you this? Like what game in general? Maybe one did and I just don't remember or something lol

TES and Fallout suck ass. Horrible gameplay, full of bugs, even gamebreaking ones, boring stories, I hate their character design, everything feels completely outdated. The last game, starfield, was just as horrible. Feels like a even more boring version of Oblivion in space. And I don‘t understand why people still buy their games.
Also: A 13 year old 3DS has more must-play exclusives and provides more fun than a PS5 with all its boring, creatively dead AAA and AAAA games
I was with you at the beginning.

Mario and Zelda didn't work when jumping to 3D on the Nintendo 64, and all the fun and soul of the games disappeared. Both of the 3D games sucked when they were released and they have aged like milk. I've tried to like them soooo many times since then.

(I love all the previous 2D games to bits and I like some more recent 3D games such as Super Mario Galaxy and 3D Mario World, apart from the time limit that half-ruins the game for me)

Yes I know, you don't agree. Believe me, I know.

Maybe I can think of a better answer later but I like Streets of Rage 3 netter than 2. I like using Zan more than Skate or Max, I think the range of moves is better, the bosses and the music are all better in 3 in my opinion.
Even though I think SoR2 is the top 16bit beat'em up. I totally understand why some people prefer SoR3 (especially BARE KNUCKLE 3).

Though overall I feel it's not as polished as 2... (it's just a question of style, ambiance and level design imho)

Bare Knuckle 3 has more of everything, lots of specials and secret movements, very fast paced gameplay adding dash and running, full 6 button layout, complex storyline with cutscenes and different pathways and a bunch of endings. Not to mention 3 secret playable characters! It's massive.

All of this while being its own thing, not just reusing what made SoR2 good, because they redone almost everything.. having new graphic style, all new sprites for main characters, enemies and bosses (some had a bit of pre-render art) more gritty and so on. It's a total new experience.

Oh forgot the hardcore-future-industrial-progressive-experimental-techno-trance soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro. Amazing. (Only for the ones in the loop)

Lies of P is overrated. The movement and combat feel awful, and the art direction is unoriginal.

Manus (Dark Souls) and Simon Manus (Lies of P). "Let's keep the name Manus and them having a staff, but what if we swap which of their arms is big and small - and make the small arm glow?!".

Darkbeast Paarl (Bloodborne), Scrapped Watchman (Lies of P). "We can keep the attacks and moveset of Paarl, but let's make it a police robot instead! So cool!".

Shinobi Prosthetic (Sekiro), Legion Arms (Lies of P). "What if Pinocchio was in Sekiro AND Bloodborne??? Let's do it!!!". Gtfo.

Interesting! While I don't agree, I always get slapped around for saying I like the first game best in the series - much more than Streets of Rage 2.

I liked both 2018 and Ragnarok for what they were.
Gameplay felt faster and intuitively better in Ragnarok imho. Though the storyline was crap compared to 2018.

The original games were another kind of beast. Pure spectacle, boss fights were a total blast, it surely would be nice to have something similar now... Perhaps with the success of Wukong and Stellar Blade (haven't played them yet) Santa Monica tries to go back to the over the topness of the original GoW (I even enjoyed Ascension, they were all fun)

What time is it?

I kind of agree but I do think the mechanic to replenish one healing vile once all are expended and the hilt/blade swapping are brilliant editions to the genre and I hope From steals at least the former, especially if they ever go back to non-open world designs that have longer times between bonfires.

“Press Turn Combat” (Persona, SMT) is a shitty battle system. Yeah you just figure out the enemy weakness and target it so they never get an attack. Battle over. Repeat 10,000x in Atlus’ over-long games. And they just make this same battle system in every game over and over. Oh it’s a big boss fight coming up! …just waste a few turns figuring out the weakness and then reload your save. Or Google it before the fight to not waste time.

This is easily my most unpopular but the truest for me: Turn-based games are not fun.

I'll piggyback this opinion and state this: Big name/big I.P. turn based games should have moved to portable/mobile devices long ago as the medium fully supports such a thing, or at least most of them should be ported to mobile.

Fast Forwarding fights, state save/quick start, and snap-fast animations were some of the best things to happen to turn based games, and part of that innovation is due to mobile.

It is a way better feeling to pull out your phone, do a couple of turn based fights or progress in a turn based game's story, and close the app once you're done as you know it saved the exact point to where you left it.

There are exceptions like few indie games and From Software games but games produced in the last decade suck so much that it's better to stop playing them completely and just play older games. This rotten industry is not worth my time and money.

-God of war ragnarok is a great game. If I were to post this elsewhere, it would be nothing special as many people loved the game, just that people here don't like the game. I enjoyed every moment of it, and I think it's well made.
-Astrobot is a mid game. I don't find anything special about it. Comparing it to nintendo games is an insult.
-FF16 is a boring and stale game.
-Playstation 5 pro 30th anniversary edition is VERY ugly.

Witcher 3 , Cyberpunk, Rdr 2 are boring AF.

Is this controversial though?
I just finished Rdr2 for the first time 3 days ago and i struggled to do it. The most boring mission design in a loong time. The narrative didn't grab me either.
Exact same thing with Cyber.

Another controversial opinion: COD Black Ops Cold War's campaign is actually really good and I'm looking forward to Black Ops 6's campaign. If only you could buy JUST the campaign or JUST the multiplayer for half-price each...

I don't like the new Zeldas, in the same way Nintendo is making new 2D Zelda adventures they also need to be more 3D style Zelda's in the vein of N64-Wii era, with a smaller open world and a more refined experience with a return of classic dungeons.

I feel Breath of the Wild and its full priced Expansion are just completely different games, Nintendo could have made them with a new IP and they would have scored mid 80's. Its a bit like if Nintendo came out with a new Metriod but it was just Farcry with a more empty map with nothing to do but "explore" and I'm sat here still waiting for prime 4.

yeah people take to that, but its not a replacement for what I'm here for.

Huh... you know what, I wouldn't mind a little extra height on this monitor.

Me, I can't stand BioShock's writing or gameplay (but its setting is nice), and I think The Witcher 2's a weak game that follows and is followed after by masterpieces.
Rockstar games are so tedious. I can't stand them.
I think consoles ruined FPS. The Crysis and FEAR sequels have weaker mechanics, worse AI, and worse level design because they were designed for consoles rather than PCs. Though we're finally getting new FPS with really strong shooting mechanics and more open level design, we still haven't caught up to the best PC-oriented FPS of the 2000s. I think the ubiquity of Unreal Engine isn't helping, since almost every environment crafted in the engine seems hopelessly lifeless, devoid of interactivity (like physics) or interesting AI (but surely the latter could be done in Unreal, right?). Still have high hopes for STALKER 2.
