Well look at this way if not for this game and the fiasco involve. It was because of this game that Nintendo is the least likely to censor any 3rd party game.

There's also the fact that at that time, boards ratings are not so reliable compared to today - some people still think otherwise, see Reera's triggering at every angle. Nintendo tried to manage it on their own and got the flak and for f that, they're learning.

Sadly I expect that the impotent masses are probably foaming at the mouth writing up petitions and youtube/twitter rants to battle this

Nintendo: We will go full fanservice!
Customer: Err, okay, but about letting us cloud save Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing New Horizon-
Nintendo: Whoops, look at the time, gotta go!

Well, I'm not one to always defend Nintendo. But this was a legitimate problem back then.

There was no ratings system, and Nintendo had to protect their business in some way. After the crash, it became clear that some form of control was needed. We know Nintendo over stepped there. But it was a legitimate concern.

And Nintendo wasn't the last platform holder to do things like these. Apple has done it, Sony is kinda doing it to a lesser degree. It's not just about the "fiasco", like you said. Today we have a real ratings standard.

or a while since the Mortal Comabt on Super Nintendo fiasco. Since than Nintendo has had Adulted rated games uncensored on their system since the N64. 1st party games are a different story though.
Well something made them censor Wii U games like Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Maiden of Black Water and Xenoblade Chronicles X in the west. :lollipop_grinning:

There's nothing creative about stealing other people's character designs rather than creating your own.

You can do things with those character designs that their original creators didn't think of or weren't willing to do. Protections on copyrights expire for a reason - They give artists fair protection over their ideas but they're not entitled to monopolize an idea forever.
Regardless of the ethical considerations, I'm glad I live in a world too where AM2R exists too.
Disagree hard here - I think you're oversimplifying.

Fair enough, although that was more the doing of NOA than NCL (the main branch of Nintendo in Japan). Glad to see that the backlash on that (and other titles like FE: Awakening) was enough to get NOA to rethink their censoring policies.

There's a difference between making a fan project, and making illegally distributing said fan game to the public. The concept of copyright infringement is admittedly messy and people have their own view on it. But regardless, Nintendo's not the only one who does it. Taking down fan games distributed to the public is standard practice by most gaming companies. Sega's the only one who allows this with Sonic, and that's only because their own games are garbage sales wise.

Well done Nintendo keep this move!!

You must Maintain the union of the third companies and with free content without censorship.

My Respects for Nintendo, curious that in such a short time my perception has changed.

The worst thing with Sony of how i spoke well to it, now does things in a disappointing way.

In response, Furukawa reiterated that Nintendo would leave content regulation of third-party titles up to ratings boards like CERO and the ERSB. Alternatively, he stated that responsible parents can still use the Switch’s parental control functions to protect their children from suggestive content.
Furukawa even took an elegant jab at Sony after that – by stating that ‘platform-holding companies’ would hurt the diversity of games in the industry if they chose ‘arbitrarily’ what gaming content should be allowed into the market.
Nice, Nintendo saying what I told some Sony fanboy in a thread weeks ago, who called my argument "weak" with his reputable being comparing Steam allowing broken shovelware to Sony's policies...... :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It still happened in Fates though, as I recall. It was more story censorship, I believe. Taking a hands off approach for 3rd party titles is good but first party is going to be a different boat. We'll find out later this month.

1. NoA did that.
2. It is using the FE property and on their consoles Nintendo censors their first party (or second) games.
3. SMT games on the 3DS aren't censored so yeah fuck NoA for doing this shit.

I just wish they would stop doing so for first party titles and stop employing Treehouse because their localizations are weird.

It's good they have the stance on 3rd party that Sony should though.

Here’s hoping Bandai takes the hint. Im still salty about this stupid censorship for DBF on the 3ds.

NoA can't stop employing their own internal localization studio. But they did show they're willing to get rid of people who fuck up too much.

I think the audience grew up. In a world where we are desensitized to violence and porn. A healthy mind is where we can access them, but not abuse it. Forbid it and we become suspiciously curious which is bad, have it just there and we often can neglect it because other priorities. We are seeing headshots in movies and games so easily, human life cast out quickly and youporn, youjizz, xvideos, hentaigasm accessible on any mobile or laptop computer. I think the audience does not care for censorship anymore. People just want a great game. Micro transactions and loot boxes are the devil.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also had stuff like sexual innuendos replaced with something entirely different. The changes were nowhere near as bad Xenoblade X, but Nintendo should definitely be more hands off with their 1st party games, too.

Welp.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is another of those situations where the games get an Asia release that has English on it, and people just buy it there.

For Nep, they were already released in Asia without any sort of English support (or so I've read). Probably the same case with Der;Q (which is actually getting a Western release on PS4/PS5).

Wait so the game was cancelled on Switch for content but it's still good for PS?

I wonder if the PS version will be censored. Nintendo, being above smudging a creative's work, will just cancel it completely instead. lol

So, will they remove the entries from the shop? Because some of them (I only checked the Neptunia 1 and 2) are available there. And if they censor Neptunia what about Moero Crystal H and Moero Crystal Chronicles?

I'm a little confused on what guidelines these games broke, because like you said, there's a bunch of shovelware games on the eshop that look like they shouldn't have passed themselves.

Yeah this completely rules out me buying a Switch 2. I already have enough platforms that like censoring third parties.

Also it's something that's happened more than once and recently at that.

they don't seem to have a problem with all the AI hentai bullshit in the eshop

Those games don't really have anything problematic despite their names, they're usually random AI-generated puzzle games.

This stuff is never retroactive as we've seen with several examples in the past, but we still have IFI, eastasiasoft and Redneg's developer all confirming the existence of these new regulations across the platform.

I really doubt this because, generally, the guidelines apply the same worldwide, which means that the Western PlayStation versions must be no different from the Japanese one. Switch, on the other hand, isn't getting the game in the West, AT ALL.

When did Nintendo become the posterboy for uncensored content? Way back they were the ones all about censoring blood in fighting games to keep that family friendly image. Was it GC or Wii era?
