Legion Go S ($499) is close to Rog Ally X performance wise

i assume the windows price?
so steam version only would be what? 399?
So $599 for Windows probably (they might have stated this but I haven’t been paying attention).

I’m still undecided on whether or not I can get away with SteamOS. I guess I would rarely be playing multiplayer games on it anyways so my biggest issue with SteamOS wouldn’t really factor in.

It's not like no multiplayer games work on SteamOS. I play these games frequently:
- Helldivers 2
- The Finals
- Marvel Rivals
- Overwatch 2

Hate to be the splash of reality, but there is safety in numbers with gaming hardware. The more popular it is the safer your investment. This one is risky, but hey, hope it pays off for you. I'm sure "Rog Ally" and "Legion Go" will be gaming names that survive over the coming years for their excellent value and performance...

This is confusing. AFAIK, There are two different variants of this with Steam OS and Windows but there are two different hardware configurations as well.

One comes with the basic Z2 Go chip with a rebranded 680m GPU and the other comes with the Z1 Extreme chip in the Ally X & Legion Go

..and to make things more confusing Lenovo are mix & matching the specs in different territories

I hope we see a handheld from HP this year under their "Omen" brand. Much less cringe than ASUS "Republic of Gamers".

I'm a bit surprised the Z2 Go is able to keep up with the Z1 Extreme as well as it is and not just at lower wattages. Can't wait to see full reviews now, I had pretty much written it off.

This is the first non-Valve handheld I'd consider buying. Only issue is hands-on previews said it felt cheap.
That I don’t really care about, personally. As long as it runs cool, has decent battery life, and runs fairly quiet, I’m fine. If it’s a little cheap-feeling, but does what I need it to do like my Steam Deck, no worries.

I would like a SteamOS handheld that had some of PS Vita's magic in build quality. Valve is great with ergonomics, but they lack finesse going from 3D printed prototypes to hard plastic shells. This is an area where major OEMs like Lenovo and ASUS (also Sony!) should have an advantage.

Good luck trying to sell the Windows version when they are releasing a Steam OS version that is cheaper. Windows on handhelds is such an awful experience. I bought the MSI Claw, but I also own a Steam Deck, and the user experience is just awful. Not only that, but I have to update the damn thing for more than 2 hours before even playing. Asus, Lenovo and MSI should reach out to Valve immediately and get Windows on handhelds discontinued as soon as possible.

What about Steam OS?

I haven't ever tried using Steam OS as a desktop replacement (though if they put Steam OS on a laptop or desktop, it'll happen one day), but Windows pretty much sits there with ~50% of your 16GB of RAM used fresh off a boot (and god forbid you have an uptime of over a week with Chrome/Edge open). Even on a machine with a mere 32GB of RAM, I'm currently sitting on 46% used, which would be the entirety of the 16GB device.
