Rise of the Triad is a success. What other old FPS should be revived?

I like the new RotT, but it doesn't have much to do with any like I have of the original game. It didn't need to be a RotT game at all.

I'd be fine with developers just making a great new first person shooter instead of attaching themselves to the Blood name or whatever.

Is RotT really a success?

For their first game it's doing really well. Especially for an FPS that was put together in 1.5 years. Put a $15 (or cheaper thanks to GMG) price tag on it, and make it with the modding community in mind and people are pretty excited.

Strife mite b cool for a modern update. Seems like a kind of game that'd benefit greatly from a modern direction.
Such an underrated game.

I'd go for Blake Stone, to continue the line of Apogee classics.

Or for some obscure 1990s shooter like CyClones or Chasm: The Rift. Or a proper Witchaven minus the suck.

Command & Conquer Renegade. Not per se an old FPS but an unique Command & Conquer game which sadly wasn't received well and didn't sold well.

This may not count because it was a mod...but one of my favorite single player FPSes of all time:

The sequel seemed to fall off the face of the Earth although wikipedia says the developer became very ill :-(

That mod was awesome :( And yeah, what ever happened to what they were making (full retail game) ? Such a shame :(

Shadow Warrior.

Oh wait.

Real answer: I want another Duke Nukem game, but I want it to take a nod from the RoTT reboot and just focus on the core tenants; I'd prefer an entirely new game -- something that happens after DNF, but a total recall of DN3D-style gameplay, but contemporary where it's appropriate. I don't have any faith in Gearbox anymore to make this happen after A:CM, so I am a sad human being.
Agreed. But I think I would give Gearbox one more shot at a game. But not with Duke or any other beloved franchise. A new FPS franchise. I want to see them develop a game from the ground up. Not passed around, no development hell, no delays, etc.

I want to see a true successor to Quake 3 Arena, I mean honestly all we need is a nice graphic boost to make it modern but keep the game just as fast and dont change anything about the formula. Make sure it also has lots of mod support so people can make awesome custom maps/modes and shit just like back in the old days. Also for fucks sake keyboard mouse only.. dont slow the game down for shitty controllers, you need to be able to strafe jump and rocket jump.

More successors to Quake 1 and 2 would be awesome as well.

Quake 4 was a sequel to 2. I enjoyed what I played.

Is it really doing well? I don't see it on the Steam top sellers or active players list unfortunately, and I don't know if GOG numbers account for a ton. The game looks great though and I'll definitely give it a shot.

Prey
Noone lives forever
quake (though I doubt a modern engine can do it justice, need impeccable frametimes)
return to castle wolvenstein

I never played it outside the multiplayer demo which seemed soul crushingly awful. I never got to try the single player but the demo was enough for me to never buy it.
It was okay. However it felt like a Doom 3 mod to me. Monster closets and all, didn't feel very Quake 2-ish. It wasn't god awful, but it wasn't a Quake game in my opinion.

none of that strogg shit that we got in Quake 2 and 4. It needs to have the original slipgate setting that was never revisted again. this game is still one of my favourite FPS games of all time.

I'd love to see a new Hexen or SWAT. Maybe I'm left out in the dark, but I did not like XIII as much as everyone else. I'm thinking of picking this up just haven't decided on it yet. The original was a blast.
BLOOD was pretty decent too.

Kingpin? yes please - I'd take a sequel of that over pretty much anything bar NOLF

Second vote for Kingpin and NOLF, but i loved Hexen too.

Outlaws was really fun too, but we already have CoJ to replace it :)

Would love also to get games like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Messiah again.

Yep, my vote would be for Hexen too. While the game is now dated in many ways, the original has a distinctive and creepy mood that holds up very well.

This too! Why did id abandon this setting anyway? Or did they simply name a different game Quake 2 because of the brand name?

This. So many times over this. Quake 1 continued using id Tech 5, targeting high end PCs. High speed nightmare-infused gun-play that rocks you to your core.

Why do we need to revive old franchises? Can't we just make new games that are reminiscent of the old ones without using old famous names as a crutch?

Yes we could, but this generation shows that we wont. Remake or Reboots are the best bets correctly.

BTW anyone played Singularity by Raven? Is it good FPS in terms of old-school design?
