‘Avatar’ Sequel Series ‘Seven Havens’ Ordered at Nickelodeon, Set After ‘Legend of Korra’

The setting was on its way to modernity in Korra’s time (I think they were in the equivalent of the 1920’s to 30’s?) and so I’m curious as to how a setting filled with people that can control the elements fared with the development of modern science. It probably plays into their global catastrophe.

Always seemed weird to me that people talk about this show like it's one of the all-time greats. But good news for those who are into it I guess.
The original series is soooo good though, its deserving of its reputation.

See, this is where I think a lot of IP falls flat. You can't just say "it's 1930's america but WITH MAGIC" because magic would have massively impacted the development of tech in the first place! Maybe take some aesthetic cues about fashion or music but world events and tech developments should be very different.

I guess their world isn't ours per se but would you really have things like a steam engine if you have guys who can just lift rocks with their minds?

Avatar was great.

Korra was more down than up.

Netflix Avatar was a disappointment.

I can see me trying Seven Havens, it being dogshit, then doing a rewatch of TLA instead.

It seemed like a decent enough kids show. I just don't get it being talked about as up there with stuff like The Wire or The Sopranos.
I always feel like I should go back and give it another chance and that I must just be missing something.

What are your top 5 western cartoon shows?

I don't compare it to things like dramas, I judge it in the medium it's in. And within cartoons it's excellent. That's not to say cartoons are a lower form per se, just that I don't don't feel apples to oranges seems pointless.

It's a well designed world with a coherent magic system that slowly becomes fleshed out as the series progresses.
The different elemental styles and continents' societies are all distinctly unique and the inspiration shows.
It's a 3 season continuous story that knows exactly where it's going from the beginning, so it doesn't feel like there's a season tacked on because a network wanted more of it. It sets out to tell a story and it accomplishes that then ends, and I like that.
It's well written. Characters have flaws and arcs.
Good action.
Satisfying moments.
Ends very well.
The whole thing just feels like it was thought out.

How you feel about Avatar is how I feel about The Legend of Korra, which is the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. I have watched it all and even tried again, but I really don't see how people can think it's that good. For me it's a downgrade in almost every way.

Off the top of my head (I'm probably forgetting stuff here):
The Simpsons
Looney Tunes
Batman The Animated Series
Bojack Horseman
Tom & Jerry

But I was talking about the idea of it being the greatest show of all time, not just cartoon shows.

Maybe I went into it with my expectations too high. I'd heard so much incredible stuff about it. But I just got a sense of "this is it?" from it. Not that it was bad. Just that for me it wasn't on the level I had expected. Like I say, at some point I'll maybe circle back around to it. I know a bunch of people who love it.

I hear you, people can get a bit too excited and pretend it's a god sent piece of media. It's not, it's just an easy but decent watch. It's still a Nickelodeon animated show, it's just top tier in its field. Maybe just throw it on one Sunday when you just want to do nothing with no expectations and see if it's worth your time.

I understand what you're getting at, but now I need to ask the next question to find out where you lie on this: In your all time top shows, where would you rank this specific show?

Batman The Animated Series

Man I love the first avatar.

Korra is a mix bag. There are a number of things I like ...and a lot I don't like. I've gone back and rewacthed The last Airbender
..but I can't rewatch Korra.

Unfortunately I don't have any hope for this new show. Hope I am wrong...

Another Animated Avatar serie ? I say YES !

Last Airbender is my favorite animated serie. Just perfect !
I had to adapt quite a bit to Legend of Korra but ended up liking it despite its flaws.

Now a series on an Avatar whom primary element is earth ? Hell yes !
Curious to see how it will turn out.

Side note : live action, either movie or series, don't work at all for me for this franchise.

EDIT : And the original creators are back for it so I am optimistic for this one.

Don't include it, the creators jumped ship because of how Netflix was handling it and that's why they've gone back to animation.
This is the reason why I am optimistic.

Even if I find LoK not as good as the original series, there is a good chance that it'll be good.
