While I wouldnt say there is a lot of representation of Asian or Latino female characters in western videogames, its not like there a complete lack of it or a disproportionate amount of black females being represented.
You are probably just noticing the black females more due to biases (not a negative or an attack).

The game itself from watching the "glowing" IGN video shows some interesting ideas wrapped in the most generic fortnite wrapper. No wonder not many gave it a second look.

People aren't calling it woke because it has a black female character, they're calling it woke because it's as always, generic, purple and safe, so it's the ideal "modern audience" game.

NONE of those characters have any identity.

Look at Bangalore from Apex Legends. You just know she's ready to tear shit up close range just from that image. Reading her abilities and, to her design and how her character personality matches, is great character design. That Project Ethos just has generic, bland and safe characters. You can tell they don't care about actual appeal and only care about the infamous "checklist" that developers have been using.

Then you have Lifeline, who's another black character and was a great design as a whole. What about Augustus Cole from Gears of War? You know what made him one of the fan favourites? The personality his character brings. He's fucking amazing. What about Sgt Johnson from Halo? He was black and you never played as him, yet he was once again the fan favourite character.

No one has a problem with black characters, it's just that you can tell when they add a black character in a game to just tick off a checklist and whether they actually added the character with THOUGHT and great design.

Same goes for white characters or female characters in general. The problem is that when developers are too busy focusing on checklists, they forget what made characters memorable and amazing, which is actually taking their time designing characters with emotion and thought.

Look at Gears 4 and 5. You plays as Marcus Fenix's son... yet he's a bland white character and I hated that we went from a Fenix who had this whole demeanour and identity to... a bland white character who just happened to be the son of the main character from then previous game.

Like I said, these days, developers aren't putting the same effort into character design because they're trying to make every character represent real people in the real world, AKA modern audience.

Developers are too busy making characters look and feel like real people for "representation" and then forget the whole point of video games is that we don't want the characters to be like us.
