Alan Wake 2 is a boring game but damn she pretty!

I hated how limited exploration was in the town. You get to go to the cafe, around the cafe, and that was about it. There wasn’t much to do besides run down those streets. I finished it and enjoyed it for the most part. It does feel like it’s smelling its own farts at times. When it wants to be secretive and mysterious, it just drowns you with internal monologue that leads up to nothing. The nursing home area was pretty good, especially when things turn for the worst. The hotel wasn’t too bad either.

I got kind of bored piecing things together. The game was good for a single playthrough, but like other people said. It feels like a slug to get through at times. I want to skip half the monologue and small little events. These games need good exploration and Alan Wake 2 had too much to go through at times.

RIght there with you.

Joke of a game.

At the end i was jusr screaming to make it stop. Never again. This game was pure torture.

Loved control but this shit?

Basically the same situation i have with Spiderman 2,I platinumed that game but it's one of the worst games I've ever played, and not because of the gameplay which is really fun but the amount of social commentary pandering it throws at you at every turn. I'm just trying to have fun with superheroes Insomniac not learn of the struggles of the lgbtq or how a woman feels during a relationship with a fucking superhero.

I straight up despise the game!!!

My biggest disappointment w/Alan Wake 2 is that it advertised itself TO ME as a survival horror game. Cool, I enjoyed the gameplay of Alan Wake 1. When I played Alan Wake 2, much of the time I was wondering, where are the combat encounters? This feels like an adventure game with sprinkles of combat. It's a story/adventure FIRST and a survival horror/action game...some of the time, but not nearly enough for my liking. I was able to enjoy it more once I accepted that. I still thought the Mind Place was a huge waste of resources and could have been better spent on the combat/encounters.

By the end, I had a very sour taste in my mouth. But it sure looked purdy. I'm actually super glad Remedy is returning to Max Payne and Control after this b/c I'm not a fan of where they took Alan Wake 2. Surely these next 2 projects are going to prioritize action better than this did.

Also how is the performance so bad? Here's a comparison with Battlefront 2 (2017)
Both games are maxed at 4K but with raytracing off, except Alan Wake 2 is running with DLSS quality.

Look at the frame counter in the top right corner, even with DLSS Alan Wake is running roughly three times worse. Does it look like it justifies this performance compared to Battlefront 2? I don't think so.
Optimization is dead these days, devs will just slap DLSS and framegen on games and call it a day.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I like the first game and I kinda like when the game has it's moment's in the second, but it all feels disjointed and added on.
Like a Frankenstein of a game stitched up together the wrong way.
What's worse is the Alan Wake parts are the ones that feel mostly added in.
And I don't recall the original having as much stupid stuff in it.
If I was to guess the original probably didn't have Alan or Saga as playable and it was just the one.

I had the same thought for the Uncharted and Last of US games. Never liked actually playing them, but I've watched them through 4-8 hour long 'movie' cuts.

That's how a lot of these cinematic adventure action games are to me. Absolutely amazing to look at, but rote and meandering gameplay that offers nothing new, but is serviceable enough.

Also my PC can't run it, so it was Youtube or nothing anyway.

How did your daughter handle the scary/creepy stuff in the game?

Oh lol, I guess when people hear daughter they think of a child. She's old cause I'm old lol. She's 19. I guess 18 when we started this game. But she'll always be my little girl. Any chance I get to play something with her I'll cherish. She's been my gaming buddy since she was 2-3.

Yeah, Saga is meant to be a genius detective just as Alan is a genius writer. The first game opens with Barry talking about how brilliant a writer Alan is, and likewise the second game opens with Casey talking about how brilliant a detective Saga is. Then both leads each had their incredible abilities enhanced through the supernatural elements of the games. It’s actually quite cool how the two leads mirror each other in that way.
I always loved the fact anti-woke people raged at Saga's detective abilities when this is a carbon copy of how AW1 started lol

Ah, OK. But that's cool as well! Not every parent gets along with their children once they've reached adulthood. That's something to treasure.

I like most of what you played so I trust your input. I haven't had much time and my gaming log is booked lol

I might buy the physical version some time this year if I can get a good deal. I like thriller type stories but I feel in gaming that is rarely done well imho, but if you found the story really well done, I might check it out sooner then later.

Draugoth Draugoth , @DanielG165 , @Doom85 and @Hohenheim convinced me, OP....this thread didn't turn out the way you may have wished, I'm now looking to just get it on Amazon based on the replies

The game plains a lot like the first Resident Evil games but with Twin Peaks vibe, i enjoyed it you explore and enemy encounters are sparred with some intense moments. Control was a mess because i couldn't tell where i was.

DLCs are super short btw.

It's like the Beach Blonde with the big tits you know has a Double Digit IQ. Damn fine to look at but not much else going on. I wanted to like this game but after 6 hours it is a snore fest. The whole "Imagination Land" angle slows an already slow paced game down to a snore fest. I have played board games with more action.

lol. Yeah, when I watched segments of gameplay, that's the impression I got, too.

With that said, it is a fantastic piece of art to look at. I am running a 4070 so can only run Path Ray Tracing outside of the woods but it is a fantastic piece of art in motion. The Woods themselves in the opening scene is breath taking and all I could think of was having a Friday the 13th game in those same woods. Then Going indoors the lighting and artwork is just superb. Even scenes when Allen first leaves the tv studio into the city neighborhood is a jaw dropper.

Well, that's something I guess. Personally, visual fidelity in a game doesn't impress me that much. There are much prettier things to look at - even on TV - than most videogames. I need games to be fun, engaging, engrossing, entertaining.

The Story was a mess in the first game and continues on an even more bizarre rabbit hole than the first one. Maybe I am not bright enough or maybe I am not taking the same kind of Acid the story writers wrote but good luck making sense of the Main plot. It's easy to understand the little things but the overall plot is a completely hot mucking mess.

That makes sense, or rather nonsense. It's not your IQ. I think the writers like to be obscure, because obscurity feels mysterious to some people and deep to others, and it's easy to pull off, because the writer is relieved of the burden of having to make sense. He/she can just have cool stuff happen because whatever.
