Here is a powerpoint slide from AMD, because I know Leonidas likes them. :messenger_beaming:

And here is the AMD introduction of the 9800X3D

Thanks for sharing, this video pretty much just confirms all the info that already leaked. No mention of price though.

Also spent some time talking about Space Marine 2 but no mention of Unknown 9 Awakening, I wonder if 9800X3D won’t come with that masterpiece as part of their promotion

And now for the bad news:
Bummer but kind of expected. Also just for reference, 5800X3D and 7800X3D launched at $449 so it’s really not that big of an increase.

Might get one if/when Microcenter has a good deal. I got a 7800X3D there for $349 about a year ago.

Ever since the 13th and 14th degradation debacle, and now with the 200 series failure, the X3D parts have become highly sought after.
At the beginning of the year, we could get a 7800X3D for little over 300 bucks. But now, prices have skyrocketed
And to make things worse, AMD has stopped production of the 5800X3D.

True, I can’t believe how expensive the 7800X3D is now.

Oddly enough that makes me more likely to upgrade because I can sell the 7800X3D for a pretty decent price.

Don't know if I can justify the upgraded from my 7800X3D. Especially since I game at 4k with a 4090.

But the fact that you can sell a used 7800X3D for close to $400 still makes this kinda tempting.

Moderated wildly
MSRP should be around $479 for this. Its going in my new small form factor build next week. Just need to decide on a stand over GPU for now until 50 series launches.

If that AMD presentation is accurate, which it might not be, you would be paying 80$ for 8% performance.
I'm not sure it's worth it, just for gaming.
In work apps, it seems to be better, with up to 26% more performance. Mostly due to the 9800X3D being able to keep higher clocks.
So if you do some work on the side, it might be worth it.

Yeah, and of course I'm always a bit skeptical at that 8% number when it comes from AMD. Will have to see some independent testing.

And even THEN, as I said, I game at 4K so the actual gains will probably be less in real-world use.

So yeah, I'll likely just wait for the 11800X3D or whatever in my case.

I think AMD might stop discounting their gaming CPUs as quickly or as deeply now. I would be surprised if the 9800X3D hits $399 before the end of the life cycle.

Well, whoever this leaker or news outlet who reported this, you can add them to the "fake leaker" list now.

41% faster than the 285k in FF14 Dawntrail
47% faster in COD

...time for me to return to AMD for the first time since Athlon 64!
Wasn't Starfield one of those games that ran much faster on 285K vs 7800X3D? Seems iffy that they're calling the new chip 9% faster than 7800X3D but 31% faster than 285K in the game.

That aside, I also just bought my first AMD chip since Athlon 64 a few weeks ago. I replaced my 9900k with a 7950X3D and it's been pretty great. Not much difference in terms of framerates (due to old GPU) but everything else flies.

Soo.... Is there a chance the higher core count versions will be faster for gaming this time around?

Tbh, I would never expected to see Intel fall this hard.

Crazy

Did you not see how their thing has been to pretty much refresh the same chips and architecture until death for the last decade and a half?

Did you not see how they used to force an entire motherboard upgrade pretty much every iteration between the 3XXX (2012) and 11XXX (2021) series of CPU's?

They've had this coming, the chickens have come home to roost and it's been long overdue.

I have a 14600K but damn those X3D chips looking amazing. Already regret not buying something like 7700x and upgrade to something like 9800X3D!

I still couldn't wrap my head around it simply because how ahead of everyone they used to be. Even their last offerings were competitive somehow but now?! Jeez they are alive simply because of the US gov.
