[I collect VHS tapes]

I grew up on CRPGs (planescape torment, fo1-2, arcanum, bg2, etc.) but I guess as I've gotten older I've become retarded. I can acknowledge that BG3 is likely one of the best games I've touched in years, yet I can't seem to get through the first 10 or so hours. the sad part is that I don't think it's exceptionally hard or anything. I just find myself having to think the entire time I'm playing, from either the dense, well-written, fully realized story or the highly strategic combat. sometimes I would dread having my party level because then I had to sit down and figure out how I want to level each character.

I end up taking a break from the game then when I come back to it's been so long I decide to start over. I've done this 3 times already.

I think a part of it is that I do work a lot, and after a day of work I often feel too exhausted to play a game like this. and yeah, I might just be getting old.

are there any games you wished you love but can't get into them?

Resident Evil 4 has always been a really frustrating game for me. I've never finished it, and I've bought it on four different platforms now. I'm poking at the Remake and it seems like something I might finally "get". I've played most of the other RE games and love them, so it's weird that I have not clicked with what's arguably the most popular and beloved entry in the series.

I like having to think all the time. Thats why i prefer to play permadeath modes, even if the game isnt hard, you're gonna be on your toes. If i have youtube running on my second monitor, or even listening to music while i play a game, then you failed to make your game compelling enough.

Nope. I was puzzled why so many liked Ghosts of Tsushima though. I put about 5 hours into it this last week, and it was nothing but a reskinned Assassin’s Creed. So I dropped it and went on to a way more fun Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.

Alan Wake, everyone says it's awesome but I found it a torture. Inside, a work of art but I didn't really click for me. It's good, I admit it, but wouldn't replay it. Every Mario since Yoshi Island, never liked the 3D ones, and I really don't like playing the 2D since Wario Land. I played Galaxy on Wii and stopped after the first world, in fact I got over 150 Switch games and none of the Mario platformers.

I played breath of the wild and found it to be utterly boring in every sense of the word. The world is mostly barren with vast stretches of nothingness which was boring, the copy and paste goblin enemies got old very fast for me, the lack of dialogue and story killed my interest, and the weapon breaking system was horrific. I tried playing it for hrs and hrs and then i just realized i was bored and that a game with a big world and not alot of story dosen't interest me in the least.

Portal 2, I wasn’t ashamed I didn’t finish it but it’s a game I always wanted to like because of the approach and style of the artists at Valve; I love that 1990s to early 2000s Pixar look. Anyway, I uninstalled Portal 2 a few levels in because of the game talking itself to death.

I get your position, but honestly I think this is part of the reason the world is so fucked up right now. no one feels shame anymore and we were all taught its wrong to shame people. IMO we definitely need to bring back shaming.

Started playing Death Stranding. After 20 hours I took a break for like 1.5 months. When I returned I had absolutely no idea how to do things in the game anymore and therefore gave up. I still think about the "what if I continued" scenario, but the idea of going back in to start all over isn't all that attractive. Not ashamed, but still wondering "what if"..

I couldnt enjoy Final Fantasy VII at its release. Im trying to play it now again in Retroarch, the Psx version. I hope i can have a good time now.

Btw, i liked Final Fantasy VIII a lot, so i dont understand very well why i didnt get caught with FF VII.

Seeing as though Bloodborne is solidly in 4th place in Souls Series (including Elden Ring) I do not think it is shameful.

Extraction shooters are games like Escape from Tarkov. Generally a PvPvE where you take equipment in to an instance, try to get as much valuable loot as possible and extract without dying. Marathon will also be an extraction shooter. Arena Breakout Infinite and Graywarfare somthing or other are other examples of extraction shooters.

I have a love/hate relationship with today's extraction shooters. Tarkov is just brutal. Very gratifying if you can go in with just a weak gun and armor and luck out...take some gigchad's stuff and make it out alive. But when you go in with good loot and die and have no clue where you were shot from.....PAIIIIIIN.

I don’t think they meant literally ashamed, it was tongue-in-cheek. Elden Ring is one of those games I wouldn’t admit to not enjoying unless someone specifically asked. Too many people love it for me to just randomly confess it. It’d be like me walking into a random church, shaking everyone’s hand, and introducing myself as an atheist.

I agree but with RDR2 I feel no shame as it seems to be an objectively poorly designed game when it comes to actual gameplay

Most Nintendo games.

When I was a kid I tried the snes, I hated metroid, fzero, zelda, mario and donkey kong. I loved my mega drive and ended up having zero interest on the snes.

Then I got older and I bought a Wii. The only nintendo games that enjoyed was Pandoras Tower and The Last Story.

Maybe it's just burnout from spending 300 hours in a similar world. To me, Tears of the Kingdom feels like Breath of the Wild if it had been released on PC and Nexus modders went wild with physics tweaks and addons. At least, that’s how it felt to me.

Note: IMO Zelda on PC with actual modders adding content would be a great thing, so don’t get it twisted, y’all!

I never beat TOTK but I probably put maybe close to 70 hours I'm guessing

similar to BOTW, for these titles I sometimes get entirely distracted doing everything but the main story, then lose steam without ever finishing it

I know exactly where I lost momentum too. I'm on my final temple, the fire temple. think it was my least favorite temple and I just stopped playing

I should really go back to it

TOTK is a huge upgrade to BOTW in every possible way, just wished the world was a little less dead overall

Aside from Wind Waker I've never really enjoyed playing any of the 3D Zelda's. I've tried many times but the games just aren't for me.
