As great as steam is, it really is lacking some extremely basic features.

Why not just use a reminder on your phone? Hey Siri/Google set a reminder to check out game XXX on XXX date.
Yes there are ways to do it manually but i shouldnt have to. Especially when steam has this feature already for games in your wishlist. But if sou buy it the feature is gone

No im talking about the 'X game is now available' enail notifications
And those already get sent. If you bought a game through Steam not a key site. You'll get an email when the game is available to download. Did you opt out of the Game Specific Event notifications? https://store.steampowered.com/account/emailoptout

I also get emails about new DLC for owned games and the like. But thank god Steam doesn't spam you with notifications about everything that happens. Imagine being pinged about everything on your feed, if you have a large library it's would be constant pings.

Nah Steam is amazing. My only issue with the store is in big picture a lot of older games have horrible pictures\graphics setup and it looks real bootleg.
My only issue is with the UI. It's not my style, but that can't be blamed on Steam, as people have different tastes.

I did not opt out. I have never received a notification for a game that isnt on my wishlist.

Yes. No one said otherwise.

Like notifications for owned games. It's honestly baffling, they have all those useful notifications for your wishlist, but if you buy the game, it's all gone. Want to know when the game game you already bought leaves early access? Or just releases? Well too bad, if you wanted those notifications you shouldn't have bought the game and just left it in your wishlist. It's like you're being punished for spending money.

It does not help valve to give you push notifications about your purchased games because that will only remind you of what you have and give you an incentive to play something and not browse for deals.

Valve has largely designed the launcher app to do one thing and do it very well: Keep people buying.

Steam is good. I like the PS controller support. Steam Input or whatever they call it. I like the download speeds. I like family sharing (though thats going away) and most of all, i like that i can buy games from cdkeys for a discount and redee, them.

That said, here are the changes they need:

- Instant Resume/Suspend Game Feature from consoles. PS4 added this 12 years ago. This shouldnt be that hard to do on PCs with 32GB of ram.
- Game Capture - Again Sony added this years ago. Shadowplay sucks. MSI Afrterburner capture sucks. Give me something that is built in so i dont have to use third party apps. Integrate with PS shareplay button.
- Make it fucking easier to launch into Steam Big Picture when i boot up my PC. I have tried for hours and cant get it to work. If I dont launch into Steam, i end up browsing gaf and twitter and waste hours instead of playing video games like i do when i boot up consoles.
- Create your own FPS graphs. I dont want to use MSI Afterburner and RTSS anymore. They cause issues with some games and dont turn on sometimes. Its annoying. You are a PC company, have these fucking features every PC gamer HAS to use BUILT THE FUCK IN. You are literally making billions every year. Spend a few million on this shit.
- Automatic downloads. Turn off the PC after a download finishes. I kick off all my downloads on the PS5 at night and put it in rest mode. I know you can schedule downloads on Steam, but not good enough. im not remembering to turn on my PC. Integrate better with windows so you can turn it on or run patch downloads on the background while my PC sleeps. If Sony's dumb engineers can figure it out, so can you.

They added game capture not too long ago. And they have an fps counter.

Wish the Steamdeck version worked on PC. Seems like they could just port it over but I guess they would have to have some way to hook into all the different types of hardware.

Can anyone explain to a dumb dumb like me why on PS, Xbox and Steam we can’t permanently delete trophies and achievements and remove games from our profile?

I am aware i can manually check. I dont want to, especially since it's a feature when it's on your wishlist but no longer is when you buy the game.

You'd be okay with your phone not sending you notifications for messages or emails because you can always open those apps to see? Exactly. That's not how notifications work
My nibba I have over 1200 games on Steam. I definitely do NOT want notifcations on top of all of the other ways I can see when a game has been updated. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't care were people purchase their games honestly, and I don't use steam beyond buying games and playing them. I could care less about profile stuff and I damn sure don't use it to communicate with friends. My gripe is with Sony and Nintendo and their wrenched hands clamping IP's so that I'd have to buy a Wi-Fi router head ass device or pull burnt bread from a toaster to play games.

I didnt ask for that. Dlc i would like but dlc should definitelly be opt in and on a game by game basis. But thats minor. Id be happy with game released notificstion when you own it.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
You can see updates to your games in multiple ways on Steam lol.

First on log-in you get a seperate pop-up box that displays big content updates for games.
Then, at the top of your library, there is a feed that displays new updates of any kind, no matter how small (especially if you "follow" games).
Further, you can check your activity feed where you get a facebook-style feed through all game updates (including friend stuff).
AND EVEN MORE you can click on individual games in your library to instantly see all latest updates for a particular game.

I mean... you're being kind of anal no?
Basically. And if every game sent everything to the notifications then someone (if not the OP, lol) would be like omg I have many games over the years and the notifications won't stop coming for every little thing a game I'll never even want to play again adds just because I bought it, Steam sucks!!1

I love using Steam even for stupid stuff like sending Chuchel emotes to people I want to play with.

Notifications for dlc should obviously be opt in instead of opt out but tbh i dont care about those that much. I mainly want them for when a game releases. Just give me the same notifications that the wishlist has which you seem to be okay with. Without the on sale notifications because those dont do anything for you anymore because you already bought the game.

It makes zero sense to me that you can wishlist an early access game and get an email when it releases but you can no longer get that email if you bought the game.
If you follow the game you will still get emails I believe.

I don't really think its missing features I just think how they are implemented is very archaic or hidden away.

you can with an external program like steam achievement manager you can re-lock all the achievements for a game.

you can remove games from your profile by using steam support just search the steam game and remove from account. dont worry you can bring it back later by restoring it if you need to as the license is still on your account.

I like steam but I really don’t like the layout of it. I know I will catch some flack for this but I prefer the layout of egs and definitely like gog more for layouts.
Jesus Christ, I get that taste may be subjective, but I think that both are worse than Steam in pretty much any meaningful ways. From the speed/ease of use, to the features offered, to the aesthetic.

And EGS in particular may be the second ugliest and clumsiest client of this genre (beaten by measure only by the EA Download App that replaced Origin).

A wall of text for nothing, the best kind of thread.
This is not what im looking for.

Would you be okay with your phone not telling you when you recieve a message because you can just open the messaging app and see the recent activity? This is not a notification. This is manually looking yourself.

To be really clear, I’m not talking about features. Just layout. It looks about exactly the same way it was when I bought hl2 all those years ago. Which for most is probably fine, i just find it a bit aged.

My biggest annoyance is that cloud saves aren’t universal. Most games have them but some don’t, and you won’t know which ones unless you think to manually check. And even then you will need to mess around with other solutions.
