Avowed art director calls Elon Musk a "sad little shit" over Avowed gender pronoun complaints, indicates more of the same in final product

Yes. Good professional teams understand boundaries and focus on the work and non-partisan topics. A good team leader knows that people will have different personal and political viewpoints and something like this taking over the internal culture will alienate a lot of the employees, especially engineers in this instance.

I really couldn't imagine myself working on this environment.... so I have to question how many devs working there really dosent support this kind of behavior ... If I had to guess I would say very few sane people could endure this craziness on a daily basis. I trully dont believe that this woke companys are just a few purple hair people and a bunch of normies as some want to suggest ...

When you start to see pronouns and woke shit in your games, higher position devs battling Musk on twitter and being openly racist without any consequences ... it tells you exactly how the culture of the studio is and probably how the overwhelming majority of people working there think.

That's exactly what baffles me seeing stuff like this. It doesn't seem sustainable - surely you're just bleeding talent? And to what end?

I think a lot of game companies whose games and studios sink dont really care because it seems the industry is transient and people shift around from studio to studio or contract to contract anyway. For every studio that closes down, another one "From the veterans of COD and Bungie!!!!!!" pops back up with a new company logo and bucket of investor money. And it seems like an industry where there's tons of partnership deals and acquisitions which helps float the boat too. Most industries arent like that. How often have you heard Coke, Pepsi, Whirlpool, car companies, shoe makers etc... are all wheeling and dealing buying up smaller companies or some noname new company with nothing but a product under development with $0 sales? Not that often.

It seems like an industry a person or company can grift around for more work or a corporate buyout irregardless of what crappy game someone made on their resume or a company has nothing but ideas and an alpha build.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
They're making fun of Elon for obsessing over pronouns, while they literally have pronoun declarations as part of their usernames, in all caps, attached to every message. I don't think self-awareness is their strong suit.

Case in point, this remark by Bre Seale (SHE/THEY)

Yes, pronouns are a "fucking backbone of language/grammar". So then how does the pronoun combination SHE/THEY work?

The combination He/Him makes sense:
"This is a photo of John. He doesn't work at our office anymore. Call me if you see him."

But SHE/THEY?
"This is a photo of Bre. She is crazy as a mad hatter. Call the police if you see they."?

Shouldn't that pronoun combination if you believe in non binary pronouns and the importance of grammar be SHE/THEM in that case?

Some people just want to be problematic, and most of *they* gets fucked

This will probably be Microsoft's Concord

They always attempt to use this retarded argument. "Uh, ACHKTUALLY pronouns are part of the language!!1!".

Yeah, except no one was objecting that. No one is protesting about pronouns being a component in a sentence and no one is arguing about removing pronouns from the grammar entirely.
The pushback was always against the idiotic pretense these people have that anyone should be entitled to select their own *personalized* pronouns and enforce their use on others.

Indy's reception seems to have gotten people shook if they're resorting to scan half a year old tweets to drum up 'controversy'.
Dude, I know you're a flaming Xbox fanboy and all but you're reaching way too hard here. First off I don't know or care about the reviews for Indiana Jones cause it's not a game I'm interested in. Second it's a game that's gonna be on PS5 in a few months so not sure why you're clinging so hard to it, but I guess you gotta be happy about whatever scraps you get since Xbox has been so bad this gen in terms of quality exclusives. And finally The initial quote from the guy is from a few days back, I added the older one for context.

Listen, I'm sure Sony has plenty of these types of devs too, but at least Sony seems to be able to muzzle them a bit better as to not damage the brand. Xbox seems to be all in on this woke nonsense ; we'll see how that pays off for them I guess.

So what's the source of the quote?

I read the website you linked. There's no source attributed to the quote. Half the articles are attributed to that shitty endymoon youtube channel everyone laughs off.

Let's look at what's trending on their homepage.

This website is shit, you guys really need to find better sources.

The politics and twitter drama aside, I'm still interested in playing the game. I don't want to paint everyone there as a goofy.

But they're putting themselves in a hole that they full deserve. I guess when the review topic is made on here ill give my impressions.

Watched ~6 minutes from the 4-minute to the 10-minute mark, and the game looks very Ubisoft-esque in a generic, not-a-good-way.

Also, the art style in the game looks very realistic and really cartoony at the same time. It's off-putting.

And SO. MUCH. PURPLE.

The last batch of previews were pretty good.
The previews for Hellblade 2 were pretty good, the previews for Starfield were pretty good, the previews for Concord were pretty good, the previews for Redfall were pretty good.

All of those games turned out to be boring, broken or worse. Everything I have seen from Avowed has been mid tier at best. Terrible combat, awful combat animations, basic story and derivative art direction. The only thing it might have going for it is some decent exploration.

Looking forward to you and others praising another nothing burger though because it has an Xbox stamp on it.

Considering previews are the only thing we have to go on, excuse me for being excited from the positive sentiments people were sharing.

Gaf favorite Skill Up did a pretty good video on it, if you have some spare time, check it out too.

People have eyes and ears too. It’s not like we’re are still reading previews in a written publication.

The combat is a joke. Attack impact is non-existent and once again, 1st person animations make it look like you are flailing around trying to swat a fly.

Don’t get me started on the dual wand wielding or hot garbage that is their third person mode.

I’ve seen it. Didn’t change my perspective. I am always looking for the next great fantasy RPG. This isn’t it.

I feel differently, considering Veilguard was practically a DMC clone (besides its other 'issues'), we haven't had a proper good fantasy RPG in a long while.

This seems like it's going to fill that void pretty nicely. Obsidian's writing and quest design also hits more often than it misses, so there's that to look forward to, too. And multiple previews have talked about the expansive dialogue / choice system, letting you be a complete dick to people if needed, something Veilguard also completely lacked as well with everyone being super cheery and positive all the time.

I don't think it looks that cartoony, I think it has a decent balance of realism and their own unique style. I like the colors it's like a dried out color scheme not to Vibrant but it stands out to me. I'm interested what the other environments and zone will look like, and be like.

What really stands out to me is what he was describing the dungeons the POI's and how your abilities can unlock secret areas or get you to areas. Like I enjoyed seeing the ice ability be used on the water to get you to treasure. It's simple but that's something that i really enjoyed in BOTW how your abilities can you get to point to A to point B.

I like the idea of the zones and then just cramming it with unique areas. If every zone is like that, then I'll be thoroughly impressed.

Veilguard was pretty awful so I don’t know that it is a great comparison. I also think that calling it a DMC clone is pretty broad strokes. It played nothing like DMC but you did attack with a sword so I’ll give you that.

Based on the last few Obsidian entries, their writing and stories haven’t been that great. Outer Worlds was pretty bad and I didn’t particularly like Grounded or Pentiment either.

I wanted to love Outer Worlds but fuck me. I beat it at launch, felt off about it. Replayed it again realized I hated the humor and the team mates and it gameplay was just alright. The plot is the satirical post modernist humor that missed more than it hit, and the last 1/3rd is forgettable.

I wanted to love that game. It is a game that happened and while not obnoxious as Borderlands, lacked it's gameplay loop or replay value.

I genuinely think we're in the midst of a vibe shift and will be on the other side of this soon.

The next round of games will tell us a lot about where the industry bean counters are on this and how much power they have.
The next batch is coming still inside this mental desease environment.... so I guess for the next couple of years we will still see this shitness in different degrees here and there.... games take 4-6 years to make ... you got to account for the huge change this studios will have to go trough plus the time to make the games ..

I personally dont expect any real change this Gen ... MAYBE next... and its a big MAYBE ... But if the movies/streaming industry is anything to go by ... woke companys go out in flames but dont change course.

Disney is burning money on wokeness for years and killing lucrative franchises one at a time... Amazon is burning billions on Woke lord of the rings and other shows with no signs of stoping ... and so on....

I've been playing things I didnt play before... looking more fondly for games from Asian devs and indies ..retro gaming.... if the western gaming industry is in persue of the modern audiences I wish them luck.. it isnt me.

Hmm. I have my pronouns in my profile here at Gaf, and at other places online, but I am not weird about it. Or at least I hope I am not. I try not to be. I'm not even sure why I bother sometimes to be honest. Some people who do, like era and twitter types get really weird about it.

Skill up's mind can be altered. Neogaf stands, and the inquisitorius continues its work. The Weirdo Fett allows too much time before launch and his oversight will be costly. They do not know the POWA of the dark side!

It plays nothing like a dmc game.

* a character action game, not necessarily DMC, that was a slight over exaggeration on my part. But all the previews saying it played like the last couple of God of War games are probably closer.

I thought it was just them covering their arses for possibly offensive depictions of active religions and early religious figures.
Really, then why is the plot of the 2nd game an attempt to deconstruct the Christian religion? I recognized the game as being made by post modern bullshit artists the moment I saw the “nothing is true, everything is permitted” line.
