I would have to say that the reviews affect me. I would probably still see this if I find the time, but by myself... I don't want to waste my friends or gf's time. It sounds like there is a high chance that they would hate it and I have never liked Snyder's films much myself.

that is just sad...lol

Ouch at that score ! I thought it would be higher with a lot of people saying it was still a bit better than MoS. I guess people are disappointed that it's not the movie they were hoping for and are giving it bad reviews for that reason.

This is where reviews fail a bit though, because it doesn't make much sense for BvS to be better than MoS but have a lower average review score/

I'm going on Sunday and will keep my expectations around MoS levels and hopefully I will come out of the cinema, having enjoyed what's in the movie.

Expectations for films are a moving target as new ones get released. Since MoS we've had Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant Man, Days of Future Past and Deadpool.

If MoS were hypothetically released tomorrow it would get savaged just as bad or worse.

edit: speaking of which- did anyone see Deadpool at 84% and BvS at 36% Coming? Jesus what an embarrassment.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
This is actually part of what made it suck. One Iron Man can hold his own against Thor, the God of Thunder, in a fistfight.

Nope. The scene you're thinking of shows that Thor can crush Tony's armor like a soda can with just his fingers if he wants to. And Hulk pretty easily shreds the Hulkbuster armor. Good thing Tony brought spare parts.

It's a David Ayer movie. If it doesn't suck, it's the surprise of the year.

lmao. yeah that's my worry too

but then i saw crust punk joker. which probably scared people even more than the director choice but i'm sold with that direction on the character. the tacky lamborghini, the silk castor troy face/off shirt, the gaudy tattoos. he's gonna be the best comic book character of the year. the irony is that ayer probably thinks it looks legit cool (look at his stylistic choices or dialogue in everything else he's done haha), when it actually seems tacky more than anything. but that is not a hindrance to the portrayal of the joker imo.

why does every comic book movie have to be a comedy with one liners? i see that in almost every review. "there is no humor", "it`s not fun"... WTF? These DC Movies arent meant to be comedy shows .

It`s like they think if you dont laugh in such type of a movie there is something wrong... i dont laugh in a thriller or drama movie, doesnt make it a shit movie....

edit: to clarify

what i mean is these people expect to laugh in such movies. Not every movie has to have funny stuff to laugh at. That`s what i was saying.

Just watched the Jeremy Jahns and Chris Stuckmann reviews, and it's not looking good. I'm probably not going to watch it at the cinema, but I thought Man of Steel was overall good with some obvious areas for improvement, so it's a shame if they haven't improved on that.

Well, people from around here that has seen it claim that it's better than MoS.

But they don't have to be comedies? Blade for example is a serious film with a very dark tone, but it's also a lot of fun. The three good X-Men films are not comedies in the slightest. The Winter Soldier is not a comedy. But they're all a lot of fun.

Not really sure where you're coming from with this comment.

That Jahns review was bad. The only valid point I could see in there was the structure of the film and stuff he claims should be taken out. Complaining that there's a villain for the heroes to fight? Destruction in abandoned warehouses and areas? Not so much.

TWS has a lot of "comedy". His point is that DC are not trying to make this a light hearted movie like Marvels, and some reviewers seem to be using that as a negative. its clearly not working out for them though.

Tone of a movie is a complex thing. Nolan's Batman movies were very serious and very well received. If tons of reviewers are complaining about the tone, there's probably some fundamentally conflicting things about the tone instead of just "not enough jokes".

I think that is not the case at all. Just last week, people loved the tone in Netflix Daredevil and that sure as hell ain't comedy. And I do not see why this wouldn't apply to films. Also, the X-men films are quite serious and are well recieved. The quality is what matters, not the tone.

Something clearly misses in BvS for the critics, so critics are likely to be thinking what would've made it more entertaining to them. If it was a stellar film, I doubt they would miss humorous dialogue.

Edit, this guy says it better:

I don't think you understand what critics mean when they say humour and fun. They're not expecting a slapstick comedy. BvS seems to be plagued with the same problem that every Zack Snyder movie has, it's serious and incredibly dull and boring on top of that, which makes for a terrible combination that ends up being a waste of time for the viewers.

Take the Nolan Batman movies for example, they were serious movies but they were fun and entertaining to watch(and had some humour sprinkled in here and there).

Does anyone mention how Affleck does as Batman in the role? I honestly care more about the Batman solo followup that he does than this thing.

Partner and her friends all have tickets to see this. I don't have the heart to tell her but did say to see Zootopia instead!

DC films outside of batman are usually very poor.
