So does this mean that the disc drive version is just the same size or comparable to the PS5.. 🤔

I wonder what the rumoured separate disc drive looks like.

What are the odds that places like Best Buy do a TV bundle with it for Black Friday/holidays? Probably not very high since it’ll be a brand new item.

Sounds like the price will be

$700 - PS5 Pro Digital
$750 - PS5 Pro w/Disc Attachment (if sold) otherwise there is the 80-dollar attachment

Given that it comes with 2TB of storage and the 1TB official storage for PS5 costs 129.99, I doubt we're looking at a simple increase in just the storage price like we're seeing with Microsoft.

The first major PS5 price drop will probably come in 2026 after sales have diminished from GTA6.

This also sets the stage for a much more expensive PS6.

Why are there still PS5 Pro deniers? There is a whole PlayStation dev portal with reference materials for it as seen by Digital Foundry and others.

Because there are a few reasons.

You have people upset that there won't be a Pro model XSX, you also have PCMR fanboys who are upset because dollar for dollar this is going to be the most powerful gaming rig on the market and much closer to higher end rigs, and then you have PS5 fans who don't make a lot of money who can't afford this and as a result they feel like they have been cheated, especially when the games start dropping to 30 fps on the base model.

That's only £100 more than PS5 launched at in the UK

Is that confirmed though?

Could just be the devkit with 2tb.

I just don't see why sony would put in a 2tb when getting the price as low as possible is gonna be key here.

Storage is one area they just don't need to push above what the reguler ps5 has.

The current disc model retails for £480 here, the digital is £390. If they launch it without a disc drive at £580 and the attachable drive is purchased separately at £100, I'm not going to be happy with that if I'm being honest. £680-£700 is absurd. £580-£600 with a disc drive is barely reasonable, but I'd accept that.

That's my assumption for US prices. Hold the guard rails for the UK variant lol.

There is no real reason to put more storage in the devkit and not in the commercial model. PS5 Pro patches are likely to result in larger size games, thus the need for more storage. So while nothing is confirmed, I think it is highly likely that it will come with the 2TB. The big question is whether people with the standard model can opt out of the ps5 pro patches.

It's an easy thing to make margins on and that is the point of the PS5 Pro, to create better margins and test the market for how much they're willing to pay for a console. Sony probably regrets launching the PS5 for so cheap and scalpers getting most of their margins.

Yeah, I kind of doubt 2TB. Maybe there is a different Pro SKU with 2TB, but Sony will want to have “base” 1TB SKU for lower price.

IMO, they have to have a $600 “base” model, perhaps Digital version. So $650 or something for the Physical Disk SKU.

No disc no buy, i can get big discounts on physical version and i don't wanna pay full price for something that i can't re-sell.

Not telling you what to do with your money....

however, I find this particular statement to be weird.

There is technically only ONE SKU of PlayStation 5 on the market. And when the pro comes along, there will be two. Both of them support a disc drive attachment. And it even cost about the price of a physical game.

Not a chance. I still have it pegged at $499-$599

Your analysis is entirely out of wack. Let's examine the facts.

  • Sony has already said that a price cut would be difficult and they JUST raised the price of the PS5 in Japan
    • They didn't raise it just to cut it again in a couple of months.
  • Sony forecasted 18 million PS5s sold for the year, there's no way this estimate wouldn't be higher if the pro was even 600 dollars
  • Sony sells 1TB official drives for 129.99 and Microsoft set the price of a 2TB XSX to 600 dollars, the internals remain the same, while the PS5 Pro will have beefed up internals
  • Sony dropping the price of the PS5 before GTA6 releases (not to mention EA FC and CoD are not likely to drop on previous gen next year) would cost them billions of dollars in revenue

After GTA6 sales cool off, then and only then, do I expect a price drop on the base PS5 and the PS5 Pro.

Spill the beans Sony, everybody knows now.

And yeah, they won’t go higher than $599, it will be really stupid.

A lot of people were predicting more than $499 when the PS5 launched too.

It would be a flop of historical proportions if it released at $700 for digital version.

It’ll probably be $549 digital, maximum, $599 disc edition. Anything else and they’d be playing with fire.

And no, it won’t come with 2TB standard. The actually intend to sell these in relatively decent volumes

The 2TB rumour is from MLID based on what a dev kit has, so take it with a grain of salt. 1TB is almost certainly what it would launch with.

As for cost, the only difference is slightly faster memory (that is cheaper then the prices of memory the PS5 launched with) a slightly larger SoC, altered motherboard, and beefier cooling. $549 for the digital and $599 for the disc version seems likely.

Stop using Google translate people. IT'S SHIT. Use AI:

2. Design of the PS5 Pro We were able to obtain an image of the front face of the final packaging box for the new console. This allowed us to get an idea of the final design of the PS5 Pro, which had not previously leaked. Unfortunately, due to copyright reasons, we cannot share this image. However, you can refer to the hand-drawn sketch below, which illustrates the design of the PS5 Pro.

From our sketch, we can see a design very similar to that of the PS5 Slim. The same white color will be present on the exterior facade of the console. Additionally, there will be two USB-C ports and a power button on the front face of the console.

The first noticeable difference from our sketch is the presence of three black stripes in the middle of the PS5 Pro’s exterior facade. However, the overall exterior design remains similar to that of the PS5 Slim, and we speculate that replacement facades designed for the PS5 Slim may also be compatible with the PS5 Pro.

Another difference we can discern from the final PS5 Pro visual pertains to its thickness. Indeed, the PS5 Pro appears slightly thicker than the PS5 Slim.

3. Absence of Disc Drive? Unfortunately, we’re not yet certain about this point. The visual material we have comes from a PS5 Pro without a disc drive. However, even though we believe it won’t be the case, we’re unaware of the existence of a disc drive-equipped edition. It’s likely that it will still be possible to attach an external disc drive (similar to the approach taken with the PS5 Slim).

We speculate that Sony’s decision is primarily commercial—to launch this console in the market at a competitive price by reducing costs associated with the (optional for some) inclusion of a disc drive.

4. Type of Controller Included with the PS5 Pro Unfortunately, there won’t be any novelty in this regard, and we’ll continue to have the same DualSense controller included with the PS5 Pro, available in white (the same one already included with the PS5 and PS5 Slim).

There is no need for a price cut. The PS5 Slim digital is $449. A $100 price hike is logical.

Sony forecasted 18 million PS5s sold for the year, there's no way this estimate wouldn't be higher if the pro was even 600 dollars

The base PS5 will still remain the driver for most sales for PlayStation. The estimate is fine, since we know hardware sales are declining.

Sony sells 1TB official drives for 129.99 and Microsoft set the price of a 2TB XSX to 600 dollars, the internals remain the same, while the PS5 Pro will have beefed up internals.

Series X 1TB has a $499 MSRP. Scaling the 2TB version to $599 is expected, even without any internals changes

The PS5 Pro will most certainly launch with 1TB. Pricing will remain within reasonable range of the base console otherwise they’d face limited uptake of the Pro.

Sony dropping the price of the PS5 before GTA6 releases (not to mention EA FC and CoD are not likely to drop on previous gen next year) would cost them billions of dollars in revenue

After GTA6 sales cool off, then and only then, do I expect a price drop on the base PS5 and the PS5 Pro.

GTA is likely to release late 2025 anyway, and sales won’t cool off for a while. Unlikely there won’t be a price drop until sometime in 2026. The goal afterall would be to sell as many copies of GTA6 on the platform before the PC port. Especially when the GaaS money from the inevitable GTA Online comes in.

A late 2025 GTA 6 release will also coincide with the usual price cuts for holiday sales anyway.

You're conveniently omitting the much beefier GPU by just saying a slightly larger SOC and the machine learning AI upscaling, the R&D for which needs to be recouped.

18m as it stands now is not a conservative figure, it's optimistic, they're already behind target and it will be hard if not impossible to reach without good Pro sales. In Japan sales are destined to go down another 20-30%.
There won't be price cuts on the base PS5 just the usual game pack-in/bundle during the holiday season and they have nothing like Spiderman2 this year.
They risk a 15m actual sales for the fiscal year (a huge and abnormal drop from the 20.8m last year because they can't cut prices like they should) if the Pro is priced outrageously.
The Pro imo will start at 599$/ 649€ digital, and that's already a lot, something only early adopters will consider.
