Bloober Team thanks gamers and critics for overwhelming positive reactions of Silent Hill 2 Remake

I've got to think the word-of-mouth on this game is going to give it a long tail.

Over in the OT for it, you've got both fans of the original and survival horror stalwarts singing its praises--those are hard folks to please, and so I'd bet this game is on people's radars who will pull the trigger later. Honestly, I balked at the $70 price tag and I'm a hardcore fan of this sort of game. I think a couple sales is going to help it out big time.

Classic ea. game didn’t meet their internal sales projections and therefore dead space 2 remake was cancelled.
I'm convinced that that team would've delivered possibly the best Dead Space game ever given the chance to do their own. The remake was subtle but a masterclass in nailing every element of a videogame. That game did what it did at the highest level imo. It's fucking frustrating they got kneecapped.

Point is it's hard to fuck up a great game.
Not really. And when you do a remake of an old game it's always a balance of keeping what made the game special as well as modernizing it enough for it to feel relevant for new audiences. This is where Capcom excels, REmake 2-4 are great examples of how it should be done. Seems like Bloober have pulled it off with SH2 as well. I'm only an hour into it yet, but it feels fresh and nostalgic both at the same time.

100% agree man. Awful EA decision. Truly awful.

That's why I pre-purchased, I never doubted them.
From the first trailer I liked what I saw, performance had me worried a little and the combat since their games often lack any but the art, graphics, character and level designs all looked great from the beginning. Helped that I liked The Medium and the first half of Blair Witch from them too.

Is there a more anal fan base in gaming? I struggle to think of one. Lol.
You have to be pretty dead inside to not feel at least somewhat happy for what Bloober did here. They were total underdogs and this project had DOA from day one. Somehow, it's been incredibly well received. This is Silent Hill 2, the SH fanbase is incredibly anal after so many years of suffering. Bloober didn't have a great track record. The early showings were terrible. Somehow they got it right. Feels like a NMS situation, except the backlash and then redemption happened while in development.

For the past 20 years, Silent Hill fans were that guy walking outside in the cold and snow, stopping briefly to see a happy family of Resident Evil fans having Christmas dinner.

For me personally, Im convinced that SH diehards did it to themselves by allowing SH2 to become this all-consuming GOAT monstrosity.

The series has definitely had more misses than hits but certain games were gatekept so hard that many propped up mediocre titles and refused to see the good things in the gatekept entries.

Purely gameplay and vibe, Origins and Homecoming have a lot to offer but instead we got people acting like those games are irredemable and that Shattered Memores is anything but trash. Downpour is also somehow considered a strong entry in the series. Pure insanity and it didn't have to be this way, lol.

Good to see Bloober stepping up and honoring the IP. I respect the hell out of it, now teach ForeverEntertainment before they mess up Front Mission 3.

It's looking like Silent Hill F might fix that.

It's funny how when Silent Hill 2 came out, fans were initially upset that it did away with the cult aspect. So Team Silent made Silent Hill 3 as a response to that, and sometime in the middle of development, fans realized Silent Hill 2 was actually pretty kino, and then were upset Silent Hill 3 wasn't like 2.
