[Collider] Secret Level Producers wanted to make a Halo x Doom Crossover Episode, Microsoft said 'nah'

This is from a larger Collider interview with the producers about Season 2 and their experiences making Season 1, but it honestly astounds me how little these MS management people understand about gaming.

The specific part I'm talking about is this:
WILSON: The creative director at id [Software] is a good friend of ours, and so are folks at Microsoft, so we made a big plea because one of the things both Tim and I would love to do is do something that isn't currently available in the games, like crossovers. We wanted to make a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode, and I spent a whole weekend crafting this impassioned letter of my childhood. And it's exactly what Tim said; they were like, “Nah.”

Good.

I'd rather have separate ones than some silly crossover. Plus, that'd open a whole other can of worms, lol.

That’s a weird crossover. The covenant, the flood, brutes, and etc aren’t creatures of hell.
To be fair, modern Doom lore treats Hell more like the Warp from Warhammer 40k; a realm of infinite power, but it can destroy everything. The Covenant trying to tap into a religious power they can't control is the story of the Halo games, so yeah, I could see them making a crossover work with some careful writing.

Completely Unreasonable
Is the deal with this that episodes are funded by game publishers? I'm sure I read that somewhere - that explains why Concorde got an episode at least.

So they'll say no to this but say yes to 343 shitting all over the franchise and devaluing it into total irrelevancy for over a decade.

Ok.

A crossover episode is no thanks but I think individual episodes featuring these IPs woulda been nice instead of some of the other strange ones that made it in

Who the fuck cares what they <wanted> to make, when what they <actually> made was absolute trash. Can't believe that guy actually cried on stage when he revealed the series. Absolute clown.

Wonder why OP failed to mention that Valve also didn't let them make a Half Life episode.

🤔
1) Because Halo and Doom are both infinitely more mainstream than Half-Life.
2) Because of (1), this made it to Twitter accounts that normies follow like Culture Crave:

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Nahsoft.
Now console market share says nah to microsoft.

You realize you’re on an enthusiast gaming forum? Where Valve and Half-Life are decidedly not niche?
Even on enthusiast forums, Halo and Doom are more mainstream and relevant than Half-Life. It's just the nature of having more releases in the last decade than Half-Life having games in total.
