oh yeah because that's a mark of a "good developer" is to throw very expensive ray tracing on everything and call it a day.
You are like a baby reacting at the look of keys being shaken "uuuu shiny!!!"
Very expensive RT and even more PT.
Terrible, very unreasonably so grainy SSR as drawback.
Terrible image quality, requiring ungodly amounts of temporal upscaling to remove the shimmering (and it still does a poor job with that ssr).
All of that for a result that looks worse than tlou part 1 and part 2, with much worse image quality and terrible performance. Yes, maybe some parts of tlou looks flat but overall it looks way better and impressive.
Even their HDR kinda sucks ass.
And as I've said - They have no idea how to do console controls. What deadzones are, roundness of sticks... acceleration... nothing. Pure incompetence.

They are not a good developer anymore.
Good dev would've baked it, made mix of many techniques and this game should be looking like tlou2 and flying at 60+fps.
This game does not have a dynamic time of day.... the time of day changes when level ends.
Everyone can achieve good results by throwing ray tracing at the problem. This is not a mark of a good dev.

Oh and control is just boring sponge shooter with one of most uninteresting protagonists ever.
Alan Wake 2 I liked a bit more but also the game is far from great.

Anyway, we delivered the bomb.

I'm also easily scared but i loved Resident Evil 4 back in the days. I've bought Alan Wake 2 on release but haven't played it very far.

Control is 10x scarier than AW2.
Man, the game's atmosphere is suffocating and so T-H-I-C-K that you could cut it with a knife - something which many "true" horror games can only dream of, a "beautiful nightmare®" if you will.

Beautiful graphics, terrific atmosphere, very good sound design, nice Metroidvania-ish gameplay loop - it truly is one of the BEST and original games of previous gen.

Unfortunately, AW2 feels like an "immersive sim"/walking sim compared to it, all bark and no bite that game was...

Control was easily a 8.5/10 for me

Most technically incompetent studio on the market currently.
And as for console versions - they shafted it and they can;t even make good gamepad controls in control and alan wake 2. Delayed, deadzoned, square, accelleration. Everything wrong with the sticks, they've done it.
Alan Wake remaster got no hdr and control had no hdr for so long. What a joke.

Also, control was boring.
Remedy has fallen so far.
(yes I have control on pc too... thats where I originally finished it... barely... I will check the update maybe)

For you too since it started the cracking up.

I assume this is just the unofficial patch baked into the game? The one the developer at Remedy worked on in his spare time.
Probably. I have used it in my first playthrough so a lot of this is not new to me. I also already have everything modded to perfection. As for the update... those two extra missions are garbage worse than walking simulators and I already have the one sci-fi outfit. The actual game is already fire though.

People rewarding shitty posts with gold

We are really in the worst timeline

I really hate it. I've had to drop so many games just because they included horror elements or jump scares
Yea I have the same issue just not to the extent you do. Like I love Resident Evil and I wish I could get into those games but they are just to scary for me.

I really liked this game when I played it. One of the few games that really pull me in and make me enjoy every single piece of world building available.

The gameplay itself was kind of meh IMO but still, an overall enjoyable experience.

This could be a good excuse to go back to it.

Games still good and looks a bit but noticably better now. FOV slider and the ultra settings makes a big difference. The HDR implementation is poor though.

I'd give that crown to Capcom.

You're both wrong.
The real answer is : Bloober team and it's not even close.

How such a technically incompetent company rose to such a prominent position I'll never understand - or rather, I get that they became darlings after the SH2 remake but that's just a fluke, these people are the epitome of incompetency when it comes to the technical part since every game they've released on consoles has been plagued by technical problems since their 1st one.

Even Capcom with the shit-tastic MOHUN wilds doesn't even come close to those hacks

I played for a couple of hours since the update, and I have no idea why I'm such a scaredy cat

So far, it's awesome

There's a certain atmosphere that makes it really tense. I'm definitely going to keep playing over the next few days

Its fake hdr lol

I was about to post this, not only that but they busted the SDR presentation on consoles in the UE, I played originally on PC and the presentation was beautiful, no raised blacks and contrast was nice.

Then on the console UE version (PS5, maybe Xbox ver wasn't as bad/was fine) the whole thing was so fucked, forget about the HDR output potentially being "fake" or bad, the note about SDR being "upgraded" to 10-bit is worrying imo, probably means the SDR is fucked on PC as well now. You could kinda mitigate the issue with setting the "gamma" (lol) slider lower but thats not something you should be doing on a well set-up/calibrated display in any game, those sliders exist to fix problems with subpar display-panel type (ie low native contrast IPS/ADS/TN panels) or how its been set-up by the user, not to fix a bad output.

Hopefully just pointless worriment and the HDR is good/fixed AND the SDR is better, but I never saw any significant banding and I never needed to change the brightness/gamma slider in the original PC release, it just looked stunning out of the box, with no raised blacks or banding except for stylistic reasons in some parts. The banding was a result of some fuckup they made themselves unfortunately.

I spoke to some devs on their social accounts and they confirmed that there was some confusion about how the PS5 handles output ranges and how the "auto HDR" setting worked, and clearly it affected the SDR presentation as well. I try to be fair with the fact that devs are still learning about HDR and mistakes happen but this was really egregious and distracting, it looked terrible.

The HDR was the worse I have ever seen on PS4 Pro last time I tried this game. Since then Diablo 4 passed that but then Diablo 4 semi-fixed their HDR, so Control is the worst again. Hoping this was somehow fixed. Also PS5 needs a way to set HDR on and off per game instead of for the whole system.

???

Control does NOT support HDR on PS4 Pro. In fact in doesn't officially support HDR on any platform. That's precisely what Remedy wants to change with this patch.

This game should be totally something I would be into, but every time I try to play it, I just get bored after an hour and delete it. Feel the same way about Quantum break and Alan Wake. I think the last remedy game I actually liked was Max Payne 2. Good on them for supporting the game this far from release though.

I'll be happy enough if the raytracing is sorted, last I played I remember the reflections looking really noisy/shimmering on some surface types. Only a few surfaces like glass windows etc seemed to not suffer the issue.

I’m a huge fraidy cat when it comes to horror games. Power through the first three hours, once you click with your powers those hiss bastards will be running from you.
I actually played a couple of hours, to quote myself:

So far, I think it's great! The story is a bit cryptic, but I feel like I'm starting to piece things together

- it's buttery smooth on my system
- the game looks great imo
- fun gun-play
- cool skills
- I think the map is absolute trash

It's still a bit too tense for my taste. The strange sounds, the eerie atmosphere, and especially the floating people make it really unsettling. But if it stays at this level and doesn’t get any worse, I should be able to finish it this week

In that thread, someone mentioned a specific DLC area (I had to Google it a bit), and it was enough to make me immediately uninstall the game :messenger_ghost:

I know which bit you’re referring to. That bit completely unnerved me as well. For very intense moments, I’d just take off my headset or turn down my speakers to calm myself down enough to power through, I really think the ambient noise (the literal hiss) really amps up the uneasiness and reducing it helped.

Really enjoyed the lore in the game, which might’ve helped me with sticking with it. Cheers.
