I’m probably halfway through the game, but I’m seriously forcing myself to like it.
Was expecting a sequel to Crash 3, not Super Meat Boy/ Hollow Knight, it’s too damn frustrating, and it shouldn’t be.
And there’s also the problem of bloat, far too many collectibles for its own good. Toys For Bob may have forgotten that Crash is not Spyro, collect-a-ton do not match with Crash. Hidden boxes are all over the place, and there are a lot of missable boxes because of shitty hitbox (jetboard level in the swamp and bear level).
Also, I don’t think these levels were designed with time trials in mind, seems like an afterthought, some of them are just too long or too complex for time trials, and the deadline for plat is lower than ever.
Despite its flaws, I had more fun with Wrath of Cortex than I’m having with this game.

Did this game not do well, because of the word of mouth, about the difficulty?
I was probably tempted to get this (not a big crash bandicoot fan tho) but the comparisons to a super hard (indie hipster junk) game like super meat boy, threw me off it. primarily because I don't like cheap-hard games designed to make the player feel frustrated (and I beat an game like Sekiro)
A big "what the fuck" goes out to the platform section of n.trophy boss
62 deaths
wait for cortex castle lol. They even put the flashback tape at the end of the level for maximum lolz.
I finally finished the story and got the triple spin. Tried the first level time trial hitting the square button a thousand times for a relic.
TBH though, when you actually complete cortex castle once, a second run will be a hundred times easier.
The only real difficulty is that last section at the end. Kind of acceptable since it is the last part of the last level, no?
This games difficulty has been severely overblown. I always found it fun and addictive to get past a challenging section rather than rage inducing or unfair, and there were only a very small handful of genuinely challenging sections in the entire game. 10 or so minutes repeating and you master it.
We gamers have become pussified with easy modern games that hold your hand, that's all. Imagine playing in original Crash mode where you only get 5 lifes?? And that evil laugh when you fuck all 5 lifes up?
I prefer shorter levels in the older games, but they were probably afraid of people bitching about the $60 price. It happened anyways and the game is brutal for casual fans and tedious for anyone wanting to go for full completion.
Maybe its just me but i HATE how everytime you die that Crash icon and number of deaths pops up in the upper right. That should be something we can turn off.
lol are you for real??
Go to classic mode, see how you like that.
I played the classics, there was no need to throw my number of deaths in my face then just like there isnt now
Git gud.
Don't see how it is offensive, it is just a little icon in the corner letting you know how many times you fucked up.
I didn't say it was offensive, i just dont care to have the devs laugh in my face. Oh look the usual "GiT GuD" response when you have nothing constructive to add. Ive finished all the Dark Souls games, and Bloodborne multiple times, not to mention all the classic Crash games so my "GuDnEsS" isn't the issue.
Ok, this is epic.
Are you going for the Platinum bro? I platinumed the trilogy and CTR but when I seen what this involved I didn't even bother. Just played through the game to beat it and never touched it again. Crash trilogy is the perfect difficulty. So, I’d read about this game being difficult, but holy shit.
This thing takes the worst-trolling parts of the originals and just turns them up to eleven by doubling the length of the stages and the number of crates in each level, plus tying collectibles to not dying in a level.
What’s most baffling is, there’s no such thing as a difficulty curve here. You have one tutorial level that’s already longer than it needs to, then one kinda introductory level, and then the difficulty goes full throttle. It’s git gud - like, seriously gud and fully committed - or fuck off. Even the extra stages are an exercise in absolute precision and tedium right from the first one.
No leniency whatsoever: some passages are pretty much pixel-perfect. Most jumps tend to be just that inch too long, so there’s really no margin for error: you either jump at the very last moment, or you’ll have to resort to double jumping to save your ass. This is NOT something you’d see often in the originals, not at all. I remember Crash 3’s time trials to be this demanding for platinum and even for gold at times, but this is different.
It’s seriously exhausting. There’s waaaaaaay too many crates in each and every stage, and not only so many of them are a do-or-die affair, but there’s so many hidden God knows where. It’s one thing to finish a level missing 2-5 crates and not having the foggiest idea where they could be, but going through it all for the tenth time and missing 20-something crates is madness.
The amount of single crates that require ridiculous shenanigans right above certain death, with no room for error, is infuriating.
The inverse levels double the torture too, but at least their color scheme makes it easier to see some crates you may easily miss or see too late in the normal levels.
This isn’t a game for kids. Not after the second level. This is Kaizo Crash Bandicoot. It’s Crash’s The Lost Levels. It’s a game that tries its hardest to make you not want another Crash game, ever. And they had the audacity to launch this at full price. Insane.
Just to be sure I’m not remembering things wrongly, yesterday I booted up PS1 Crash 2 and did the first world. No, it’s not me - the game introduces you to its mechanics much more gradually, giving you extra lives in spades too. No gimmicks throughout the whole of the first world. Completely different.
If the platinum involves doing every level 100% without dying and getting the best relic in all the time trials, no way.Are you going for the Platinum bro? My mate did the platinum last year. Some levels took him about 6 hours to pass.If the platinum involves doing every level 100% without dying and getting the best relic in all the time trials, no way.
That could take more hours than an Atlus JRPG, lol.
I’d be happy with getting all the gems. Maybe all the tapes too, but I’ve read posts saying that the last tape is at the end of the final level which took someone hundreds of tries. So I don’t know.
