Death Stranding 2: On The Beach Releases June 26th, 2025

The word that keeps popping in my head when watching this is REFINED.

Which is different from polish, or iteration because it implies there's a purity being sought.
Its like Kojima has had this vision in his head since Metal Gear, and every game he does he gets closer to this "thing" he's been chasing in terms of presentation.

And eccentric as some of Kojima's vision is, its guided by very formal rules: You can tell he must obsess over scene composition and framing, probably studying and take notes from his favourite movies. Watching that trailer it also struck me that there's very little in there gameplay/game design-wise that he hasn't done in the past, his mechanical and structural design approach is quite familiar at this point, but the presentation and all round stylishness of the package puts a unique spin on it.

I mean, I feel like that trailer pretty much showed the whole game, and its all just building on stuff he's done in the past, but damn!

Sorry to gush, but I think that trailer was a great reminder that, regardless of whether you dig his stuff or not, Kojima is special. Its the combination of a truly singular vision, and the ability to deliver that vision in such a refined way that I really don't think anyone else in the industry can match.

Well, that was super retarded.

No hate for the people looking forward to this game, but...

Kojima was better when Konami was reining him in.
Well then, I have good news for you. This is his next big game:

Hope to see you there in ~4 years.

You guys sure love to ride Kojima's dick. I enjoyed the first game as its something unique but come on...
Graphics are 5% better than the first game which already still looks amazing.
Other than that, I expected a big step up in the gameplay department which seems is not the case. Walking and delivering packages with basic ass shooting remains unchanged.

I loved Kojima back in the PS1-2 days when what he was doing was revolutionary.

Guy can make a refined game, but my god, at this point, his obsession with cinema is just... bleh.

Hamilton × DS2 limited edition watch (2,000 pieces with individual case back numbering):

KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, in collaboration with heritage horologists Hamilton, have produced a limited-edition watch, modelled on the in-game timepiece worn by Neil in DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH. The newly released game trailer offers a glimpse of the watch in-game: Here. The American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition is set to release in June in line with the release of DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH for PlayStation®5.

Made possible by legendary art director Yoji Shinkawa, the futuristic, Boulton-inspired Limited Edition reflects the techno-apocalyptic environment of DEATH STRANDING. Design cues are seen in the sleek, arching lines of the titanium case with black PVD treatment. Combining durability with a rugged yet refined look, titanium reduces the case’s weight by 45 percent and is highly resistant to saltwater corrosion. For more details visit hamiltonwatch.com full technical specifications below.

The watch features seven sapphire crystals: one primary viewing window with two columns of three on each side of the case. Minimalist grey indicators on the face are set off with a contrasting orange lacquered seconds hand and 12 o’clock index. Looped hour and minute hands reference the sapphire design and bring lightness to the face. The three-hand automatic 25-jewel movement features an 80-hour power reserve while a Nivachron™ balance spring offers enhanced resistance to magnetic fields, changes in temperature and shocks.

Limited to just 2,000 pieces with individual case back numbering, the watch features collectable packaging inspired by narrative elements from the game as well as a bespoke cleaning cloth unique to the collaboration.

Not watching that trailer, as I already feel i've seen too much, but very happy to see this releasing quite soon!
Day 1.
Wish it was PC day and date, but the PS5 Pro will have to do.
Definitly not waiting extra months for this one.

In Death Stranding, there are more game mechanics than in the vast majority. I don't understand this cinema argument when his gameplays are always tight.

Don't I know it. Finished the first game and, while the story engrossed me, once I finished it, I felt no need to go back and experience the thing again. Still had side-missions left, but the motivation to play it again is just gone.

And come on, George Miller? Maybe I'm just jaded now, but Kojima's a brown-noser. He can't find anyone else worthy of mocap?

EDIT: before people jump my hide, it's okay to want to play a game AND express criticism. I don't intend to shit on everyone's cake, just expressing my opinion.

Once upon a time all you had to do was stay off 4chan.
Its pretty easy to stay off X imo. Careful (very careful) curation of Youtube plus NeoGaf (plus Whirlpool, an Australian forum) with a touch of Bluesky gets me everything I need in gaming news. Oh and game specific Discords, can't forget those. The key to all Social Media these days is to configure it as 'Pull' media, and don't engage with any of the 'Push' mechanics. Basically block all the algorithms and limit discovery to real recommendations from actual people.

Who says the Pro isn’t worth it now?
The trailer is on base ps5 and it already looks beautiful and fully optimize for base ps5. This means it will surely be incredible with ps5 pro's additional upgrades and by that time in June, Pssr ML has matured even more. Maybe the rumored some FSR4 features will be in PSSR has already been implemented.

The art direction in this is seriously fucking incredible. I can't tell you the last time I saw a trailer and was swept up in it like this to be a lil drama queen. The variety really surprised me and the environments look stunning.

Where the first one clearly had cut corners presumably due to time and budget, thus just looks fully refined, realized and unchained on every level. I fucking love to see the batshit creativity.

Will likely have a 60fps mode on both. Not sure how the base PS5’s IQ will hold up, but it should be decent.
IQ already looks great on base ps5 and it looks like at has a decent and stable frame rate. I think they will take advantage more the Ps5 pro features on more frame rate boost and lighting.
