The base PS5 will play GTA just fine. The game will be remastered for the new generation anyway, and obviously on PC later.

I'm sure it will run the game, I just have a feeling it could be the title to make Pro's truly coveted. It will be a much bigger deal than a game like FF16, if the performance gulf ends up similar.

No.

The answer to this question is no, regardless of anything else you say about your situation. Nobody needs a Pro. You'll be totally fine without it. For some people, like me, it's a worthwhile upgrade, but it's absolutely not necessary.

It obviously depends on your economical situation. But IMO if you care about getting decent IQ at 60fps it's a worthy upgrade.
Last year we started seeing more and more games with terrible IQ in their performance mode on base Ps5, stuff like FF7 Rebirth, Space Marine 2, SW Outlaws, Rise of Ronin, Dragons Dogma 2, Wukong and more. Lots of games are reverting back to Ps3 era resolutions for their performance modes and there is only so much upscaling like FSR can do when it's getting such a low res image.

And with increasingly more UE5 games on the horizon things are only going to get worse on the base Ps5.
That said. if you are mostly interested in the exclusives I think those will hold up decently on the base system. Sony is generally good at optimizing their games for their base console.

Get one of the two

-PS5 Digital + Switch 2
-PS5 Pro.

Personally I would build a PC and enjoy Path Tracing now instead of waiting till PS6/ next xbox.

Hello folks.

I am torn between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro. I almost have enough for the Pro, but is it a necessity for games going forward? I’m not worried about 4k/60fps as I never really noticed it before when I had a launch PS5. I got rid of that because the launch games didn’t appeal to me.

So, in your opinion, should I go all out with the PS5 Pro or is the PS5 going to be left in the dust in the near future?

Thank you all, and I am sorry if I was supposed to post this elsewhere.
Do you have a gargantuous television? I jumped from a 65 inch to a 77 inch oled and noticed substantially worse artifacts, noise and blurriness on the PS5, due to the jump in screen size.

The PS5 Pro ironed out most of the artifacts, noise and blurriness issues.

Buy the PS5 Pro if you have a huge tv or buy the original PS5 if you have a screen smaller than a 65 inch imo.

If you have to make that question, the PS5 Pro is not for you.

Depends on your gaming needs. I was torn between selling both my SX and PS5 and building a new PC. Ended up selling the PS5 to fund a Pro and bought a nice LG Oled to go with it. For what I spent I couldn't have built a PC with similar results so I'm happy.

My fantasy is that my girlfriend was actually a young high school girl.
Launch price of PS5 = $500. Years till next gen = 8 (approx).
PS5PRO costs 40% more and has 50% less life in it.

The value doesn’t add up.

Honestly, everyone does. It takes the console over the finishing line for where it should have been.

Not a single person on here or in history would not trade their reg PS5 for PS5 Pro, because it is a pure upgrade. Just a PS5 with better everything.

The question is can you afford it and that is for you to determine, not us.

Having double the storage and the tranquility of knowing that you're getting the best console experience possible at all times (even if you're not a tech savvy person) makes it more than worth the couple hundred dollars difference. Things will only get worse for the base PS5 in terms of image quality and performance, since, just like the Series consoles, it isn't ready at all for the ML era.

PS5 Pro and Switch 2 be the only console devices to exist in and take advantage of this new paradigm until the next generation arrives -- a couple of years from now for Xbox and nearly four years from now for Sony.

No. I got it because I wanted it and the money doesn't mean much to me but overall it's not some massive difference. Although recently Dying Light 2 was updated and it switch my settings back to performance which is what I always used on my base PS5. I noticed immediately and it looked ugly as hell. Went to video and yep it was set on performance mode. Changed it back to balanced and continued playing the game.

Get a regular PS5 now
Then years later upgrade to the PS6 when they're done beta testing PSSR on the PS5 Pro

All you need is food, clothing and shelter.

Get the Pro if you can afford it, it's the right choice. Don't listen to people that are mad it's not 200$ cheaper.

If you are saving up money for the pro then should you just by a regular PS5 and use the extra cash for games. The Pro was made for people with money to burn that don’t mind spending extra money for a small upgrade. Plus if you’re not worried about 4k60 why would you even think about getting the more expensive model?

For me? Absolutely. I tried to replace only one of my two PS5s and hated playing the "inferior" versions of games on my upstairs monitor. For you, with this statement? Nope. I got it to have it play the games at "locked" 60 with slightly higher resolutions.

I'd get a pro, you'll be glad you did in the long run. You might not care for 60fps or have an old tv, but when we get at the end of the gen, the pro will be so worth it

I have a simple rule: Whenever I have to ask myself if I need a thing, I most likely don't need it.

The Pro is the most disappointed I've been with a gaming purchase and subsequently with a videogame company (Sony) in my 35 years of gaming.

It's not that the console doesn't improve games, it's that the improvements are so minor due to the lack of Pro patches for many games (not just 3rd parties but many of Sony's own games) and the games that have received patches are half assed, low effort disappointments such as Silent Hill 2, SW Outlaws, Avatar etc ...most patches come down to the devs slapping PSSR on their game and calling it a day ....only a few games had actual work done on improving graphical settings (spiderman games, callisto protocol, Dying Light 2, horizon fw, sw jedi survivor tho that game has bad image quality).

As far as PSSR goes, it's jus5 not very good. It's expensive to implement, so instead of getting RT improvements on top of pssr we just get PSSR. It doesn't fix the main problem we have been dealing with all generation long with FSR- image quality issues due to artifacting and aliasing. The main reason we all wanted ai upscaling it doesn't fix! Sw Outlaws has the same noisy, ugly reflections it had on PS5. Alan Wake 2 has just as nasty of aliasing that it had. Jedi Survivor is full of shimmer. Silent Hill 2 is noisy as can be. All PSSR seems to make a difference with is for games that already had clean iq- PSSR makes things sharper in general but it doesn't "work well" for all games- sometimes it seems to exacerbate underlying issues already present in games.

Sony just hasn't bothered to patch 8 exclusives for the Pro. I think this is the most pathetic thing in the world. That the company asking us to dole out $800 for their console that's designed to give players a better experience, doesn't care that there are many disappointed owners wondering why games like Returnal and Astrobot are exactly the same on Pro as they are on PS5!

There are so many 3rd party games too that havn't received patches even though they stand to benefit from them. You can't really even blame them as its their perogative whether they think it's worth it. A sad fact of console gaming, that you need extra specific work done in the form of a Pro patch, to get a benefit. So nothing from Cyberpunk, Control, Plague Tale Requiem, ff16, and many more games.

I shocked at how bad Sony has been with their handling of this. For the insane price they needed to actually deliver something special and they've done the opposite. Again, 8 Sony important exclusives that they're just like "nah ..you thought Returnal would be improved? Fuck you. You thought we'd patch the biggest live service hit if 2024, Helldivers, a game in desperate need of higher resolution? Nah, fuck you. You thought we'd provide updates like we gave to the superior PC versions of Death Stranding, ghost if Tsushima, Uncharted 4, Days Gone, God of War, Returnal, etc? Nah, fuck you. You thought that since we said all Sony games going forward would take advantage of the Pro after launch? Say hello to Lego Horizon ...and fuck you too lol

If you want the best graphics possible on console then yes... if not dont... the Pro (for now) is not really improving perfomance for most games that have shit perfomance (at 60fps) .

My opinion and is only a personal opinion ...right now the Pro is better suited for 30 fps (fidelity mode) players looking for that extra shinning RT graphics and maybe an upgrade to 40fps modes, and 60 fps/perfomance players with disposable income.

If you need to ask other people do you need it or not, then you don't.

Pro is meant for people who already know they need it because of whatever reason. Just get the base model.
