Elden Ring Nightreign launches May 30

I'm not a fan of roguelites, but I am excited Fromsoft is experimenting with vastly different playstyles in Nightreign. I'm tired of the slow paced nature of Dark Souls combat, especially the constant dodge rolling. But I do wish they just made this a single Player Elden Ring DLC, with new classes added. I'm a bit annoyed the upcoming beta doesn't have the Sekiro style deflect class that is in the trailer. I would pay full price again if Fromsoft could properly implement that combat system in Elden Ring

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a massive Monster Hunter type gaas game coming sometime in the future. There is so much easy money to be made for Fromsoft by doing that. This seems like a stepping stone towards that

This looks pretty decent and fun

My main concern is longevity. What’s the point of completing each 3 day session?

Are there permanent loot rewards that carry on to each playthrough or do you start over from scratch everytime?

If it’s the latter, I don’t see this having much staying power

Im pretty sure it's not meant to be a longstanding GAAS game with microtransactions. Just a fun co-op experience you can play for a few dozen hours. Seems like Fromsoft is experimenting with this more than anything

Kinda worried about the game not scaling back if you play solo.

I know you get two NPC's but if they're just as braindead as the mimic tear then you're gonna have a bad time.

Probably so

I actually think they should make a new GaaS IP that’s open world class based PvP/E with longstanding progression, similar to Destiny

People here would rage about it, but it could be an amazing GaaS

They made Chromehounds, which to me sounded f***ing awesome. I'd love to see them give something in that vein a go. That easily slots into your "open world class based PvP/E" description - a description I wholeheartedly agree with. Generally I think studios should be working towards some amalgamation of Survival, Extraction, Battle Royale type games - big maps with lots of choice.

In terms of the Souls-like formula, I personally can't picture anything too compelling multiplayer wise. I guess Monster Hunter is big, which I think is what Nightreign is trying to do? I don't have strong opinions about that because I don't really understand the allure of Monster Hunter or Elden Ring. Roomba enemies just don't do it for me.

yeah you get "relics". not sure where/when you get these but they are equipable (passive only?) items that boost your character in various ways. you don't ever lose these from run to run. certain characters can only equip certain relics as well (like the knight dude probably won't be able to equip a relic dealing with FP). you can also engage with a merchant at roundtable hold that has some sort of impact with these too i believe.

Hmm. I like Lord of the Rings and play co-op games with my siblings, but Fromsoft has my least favorite gameplay of all time. Not sure until I see some reviews and impressions from real players.

As a huge fan of Elden Ring, I'm not sure how to feel about this one. I enjoyed Elden Ring almost exclusively as a solo experience, and I progressed at a very slow pace. This appears to demand the exact opposite from me.

Got a code for the network test this weekend so I guess I'll reserve my thoughts until then.

One of the previews compared it to Hades.

What time is it?
I love the Souls games as co-op experiences, but putting a battle royal ring and timer on it just seems "meh".

Interesting, it looks like they removed everything I like about Elden ring and added everything I hate with video games.

Exploration and build variety was the thing I liked about Elden Ring but here they moved all of that and added Battle Royal mechanics which huge turn off for me.

I love FROM games but this is not for me.
