Yes its a shift in rendering quality assets, 1080p using huge assets looks better than any ps2 game even at at 8K60, and its logical that the whole pipeline is now important and thats what the UE5 demo clearly showed.

Any dev can show PS5 footage of their games.
There is no restriction about that.
You can't show the devkit or the console.
Or talk about any related non-public PS5 feature.
They choose to demo their new engine on PS5... how is that hard to understand? My brain is fine btw.

I don’t see how you can justify saying that... He’s been in the industry a long time and his engine has become a staple of both indies and AAA games across many platforms.
It seems to me he’s the opposite of “snake oil salesman” - his product works and has made money for him and his clients.
Compare that to more famous “snake oil salesmen” - Peter Molyneux springs to mind, and that Milo demo as well. I mean that was deliberate misrepresentation. And Kinect canned demos. Actually there have been a lot.
Epic are enthusiastic about their tech - but I don’t think they’re selling a fake product or one which won’t perform. Why would they? They’ll be found out by the first devs to try and get a triangle up...

Here is a thought process for you.
Put in a DVD at 720P of a movie and compare the image quality (infinite assets) vs a Ps2 game running at 4K emulated on a PC (they are easy to find). What looks better ?
15 % TF extra - a. slower GHz - b. MS slower abstract api layers - c. virtualisation slowing it down....

Nah I'm not accusing him of making it up, I wouldn't go that far, but he's had a history of bending the truth to portray himself and his company as better than they are. He will tell people what they want to hear dependant on who the audience is at any given time.
He's basically Phil Spencer of the PC gaming world - which is ironic considering he's gone toe to toe with Microsoft and Xbox on a lot of issues regarding the windows store in the past only for him to then create something equally abhorrent with the Epic Games Store. He will wax lyrical with his words, get everyone on side, and then flip the switch to exploit you when the time is right. You basically need to treat almost every tweet and word he says as PR, and then remove the fluff to try and decipher the facts.
At the end of the day the man has an engine to promote and there will be a big market of PS5 developers out there considering what engine to select for their next project.
Just a pinch (not a mountain) of salt is necessary when speaking about what he says.

PCs will catch up for sure, wonder if some of the new PC cards will have enhanced I/O remains to be seen - there is always a solution somewhere. Not yet though..
not talking about PC. Talking about XSX. Sustained performance. Much more TFLops without overclocking to insane levels.
No variable frequencies. Everything stable.
Anyway, we will see when we have the DF threads. Then all this speculation can finally end.

What if XBox game sales are really low due to Gamepass?
I can see studios just going exclusive to PS5 to make what they want and use the new tech while not sacrificing too much in sales.

Majority of third party games at launch will be cross-gen. Nothing realistic or certain if you will can be expected to be drawn from those. It's up to first party, from both MS and Sony to set the standard and show the promise of next gen...... to which these third parties will try to conform as they release their next-gen only sequels 1 year after launch. In a first party battle, I wouldn't bet on Xbox if my savings depended on it but I'm open to surprise. There is also always those second party moneyhats that each camp can pull out. Godfall being one.

No, they would just not release their games on game pass. Not all games are on game pass. No one is forced to release their games on game pass.

SSD's will start becoming minimum spec in the next couple of years. Not necessarily pcie 4 SSD's but Sata SSD's are dirt cheap now and are pretty widespread. The transition can happen quicker than most realise.

Unfortunately gamepass effects the entire ecosystem. If you offer a lot of cheap but decent games, many people don't have time or need to buy games beyond that service outside the core audience.... leaving a very small pool of potential buyers. It's hunger for content basically...

I feel we are back to psone and ps2 era.
Easy develop for good tools shorter dev times etc etc.

You can't say on one hand that the Series X won't be affected (and prevented from reaching max performance) by having to scale down to current gen consoles on one hand but then on the other hand say that the PS5 will be affected by games needing to scale down to slower SSD's.

We are talking about image quality for next gen and the next step up in rendering, shown by ps5 and the god tier SSD which is better than high end pC at this time. And as the thread title says, it was so fast Epic had to rewrite the code to keep up.

Xbox had a gameplay event they had games shown now we are still waiting for sony.

For true next gen high asset streaming, made of zen2 and fast SSD games, Ps5 will win comfortably.
