Well that much is obvious. It's still a remake of a beloved classic title with a familiar setting and cast, in addition to being a direct sequel to FFVII Remake. Compared to the clean slate that was FFXVI.FF VII rebirth is kind a brand new game tho
JRPG weren't selling 10 million units in 2004, in fact most games weren't. WRPGs evolved as have CRPGs. JRPGs have devolved in many respects.
FF 7, 8, 12, and 15 all sold over 10 million. And 13, 10, and 9 sold around 9 million.
Could be that they are waiting for word of mouth. Or the 'intergrade' version. Or the PC version. Or the Switch 2 version. Who knows. I also think this is a huge drop compared to FF7 Remake. So far we're seeing a 440k difference between Remake and Rebirth in Japan. Ok the PS5 is less popular than PS4, but seriously, where the fuck did those 440k people go? Are they ALL people who just don't own a PS5? Because I believe if Remake landed with you, and you had a great time with it, you'd be making sure you'd have a PS5 to play the next part.
Combination of lower install base and possibly higher digital share, maybe.I know PS5 being unpopular in Japan plays a part in this, but I really do think we're underestimating how much potential damage they did by pulling the rug out from under people in Remake, by revealing this isn't actually a remake of FFVII. Love it or not, that did turn a lot of people off.

Really don't understand these takes. Rebirth is estimated to have done what, 42k physical sales in the UK? So Japan does 262k and that means Playstation software is struggling? US is probably the only country that will do higher, and it has almost 3 times the population.I see many are ignoring that all Playstation software is struggling in Japan.
This is the most complete FF since X and It's currently tied with X as my favorite in the series. I didn't like remake at all.Everyone was saying Ff7:remake was the best thing since slice bread, and it didn't really make and impact on me outside of nostalgia, and I remember hating the side quest, so I'm apprehensive towards picking up rebirth.
The 10's of mini games and proformance mode proformance doesnt inspire me to want to pick up the game right now. I waiting on a deep sale personally (maybe next year).
I wonder if it other people who feel the same.
It was definitely a different time.I remember when people bought PlayStation consoles especially for Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy XIII did its magic on a failing PS3 (Wii was still dominate), if I remember correctly. The IP had immense power back then. Unfortunately, it was probably that same game that undid it too. Also, it looks like is the lowest first week selling (Retail) Final Fantasy mainline game in Japan.
[PS3] Final Fantasy XIII - 1.501.964 (Media Create)
[PS4] Final Fantasy XV - 716.649 (Famitsu)
[PS4] Final Fantasy VII Remake - 702.853 (Famitsu)
[PS5] Final Fantasy XVI – 336.027 (Famitsu)
[PS5] Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - 262.656 (Famitsu)
This was what I was expecting too. But now, I'm seeing it will basically come down to North America primarily (United States). UK is showing a decline too, with 16 doing better.Worldwide FF7 Rebirth is going to outsell FF16. The inevitable SE press release is going to legit shook some of these naysayers.
How fucking crazy is it to see a fucking Armored Core game in a top 10. And not only that but in the upper half of a top 10.Elden Ring and RE4 don't even manage 100K but weeb trash like FF gets 200K+?
Japan really needs to get into modern times and let go of their hard-ons for JRPGs with teenage protagonists.
Glad to see it, this means FROM willing to make more Armored Core games in future. How fucking crazy is it to see a fucking Armored Core game in a top 10. And not only that but in the upper half of a top 10.
Now if they could resurrect King's Field, too....Glad to see it, this means FROM willing to make more Armored Core games in future.
Armored Core is a nice surprise but Japan loves their mechas too.How fucking crazy is it to see a fucking Armored Core game in a top 10. And not only that but in the upper half of a top 10.
This is a very good point that many JRPG lovers may not want to embrace. There's a ceiling to what JRPGs can do. It's probably between 8-10 million units globally now. Which isn't bad, but it's good to be honest about it. Anything more than 8 million for any JRPG is HUGE nowadays. It's not 2004 anymore.
Physically Rebirth has outsold FF16 by 30% in the UK, launch week anyway. This was what I was expecting too. But now, I'm seeing it will basically come down to North America primarily (United States). UK is showing a decline too, with 16 doing better.
Always with the shit takes, nautilus.Emigrated to China.

Too damn long between sequels

Isn't this physical only? What about digital?
I highly doubt boomers care about Final FantasyOnly boomers care about Final Fantasy
Oh.. Physical sales? Yeah, not surprising. Physical sucks. Who wants that?

That is one excuse.Take into account install base size and digital sales ratio vs 2020.
Yeah, if they had just put it on Xbox I'm sure it would have gotten massive success in JapanOh well, they will tie their largest franchise to one console and let it flounder there, it's their own fault.
I just hope they'll tell Epic to go fuck themselves this time.Bring it to pc ASAP, fuckers.
