Imho .... Awful story, dreadful gameplay and one of the worse open world elements and side quests I can remember, ever... the only redeemable quality at the time was the graphics on the Pro.. and thats it.
Some of the best graphics, music and animations TO THIS DAY.
Great vibe and atmosphere of the game. Amazing looking magic.
idk what's so bad about the story. It's fine. I feel like not everything has to be told directly. You can infer few things and it's fine.
I get that this gameplay and open world is not for everyone but honestly there is not even that much of real open world in this. And combat is strange but I don't think putting other type of combat would've changed the game that much.

Anyway. You focus on the bad, I focus on the good.

The story was famously unfinished having to be "completed" by side media launched on youtube , the other parts are subjective to what you like or dont like. So no point in arguing.

I didn't watch any side media and I've not played the dlc. And the story was complete. It's just not fleshed out.
Really it's not that difficult to understand.
Story doesn't have to be super convoluted in order to be good. Simple stories are fine too.
but whatever. I know it's unfinished. so be that way

Your opinion of the story dosent change the fact that it was unfinished with side content having to be dropped in dlc and on other media for completion and understanding... if you like the way it was more power to you

The characters leave for a mission or two and you get to know what they did in it in a dlc. It was designed this way.
The overall story about the curse and bad uncle remains what it is.

I think you are purposely ignoring all that is known about the turbulent development and rushed launching of the game, how incomplete and patched it had to be and how it was never a trully finished product in the end.. you like the game and is very passionate about, thats fine. It dosent change the history behind it...

But this is to much off topic .. lets agree on disagree before we have our asses kicked by mods.

The guy saved ff16. Fantastic game. I don't care how much it is not final fantasy. It was so impressive and fun.
So no way they would let him go.

What an awful take. FF XV is an incredible game. Really shows what matters in a video game. I like it more than XVI honestly.
And I've tried to get into the demo few times with no success ending with bad opinion like yours. Then 1 day I just got it and got sucked in.
It's a game you gotta finish to get it really. I cried at the ending and that solidified the game for me.
It is something special and unique. unlike any other game. Hating on it because it's not a fully featured open world game or it's not traditional feeling... I don't get it it. This game deserves to be praised, even if it is somewhat of a mess.

These 2 games are why we should celebrate. not condemn. Single player games that take unique risks.

FFXV is Normua's homoerotic dream of driving a car around the country with his 3 closest dudebros. The guy needs to stick to character design and not touch anything else. Literally everything he is involved with (including FF Rebirth) ends up convuluted and not making sense. He's also the same moron who claimed that FFVI was his worst work (most people think the exact opposite) which tells you just how dumb the guy is.

FFXVI took a while and eventually grew on me. I can see why people would say that it's not a Final Fantasy game but i liked it nonetheless.

I like a rather simple story. So FF XV and XVI were fine for me.
but REbirth indeed goes to shit with the multidimensional crap. Just why

Glad he cleared this up and it means FF14 will still be boring and never change. It's not the win he thinks it is.
If FFXVII isn't the next MMO releasing within the next few years, Square fumbled the bag. I think it's obvious FF14 is well past its prime and it's in the decline territory.

A lot of people here saying how awful FFXVI is but for some reason have forgotten the travesty that was FFXV. The game was much worse in every respect. Also, it would be weird if Yoshi-P was demoted while that tool, Tetsuya Nomura still works there. I'm guessing it was a personal choice to step down.
yeah there is some valid critism over that guy, but at same time personally Nomura get blamed by fans to lot of stuff that he has any nothing to do with

Versus 13 is due to Crystal Tools fiasco and FFXIV 1.0 mess. original plot is credited to Nojima.

Remake and Rebirth element like whispers and Sephiroth appearance is due to Nojima and Hamauguchi

despite he is also involve in story, Kingdom Heart main writer is actually Nojima and other guy like Daisuke Watanabe and Jun Akiyama.

it is funny that people only focused on him and ignored Kazushige Nojima .

Nojima may be the single person most responsible for the decline in writing quality across Final Fantasy as a whole in the last 20 years. A lot of the stuff he bakes up is just not very good.

Best he stick with the MMO space. He tried to use too much of the FFXIV formula to translate to a single player game. Rebirth is far beyond what 16 offers. Though granted, 16 is a brand new entry, where as rebirth at least borrows from a classic. Still there was no real innovation when it came to interactions with npcs. It's like the graphical quality did not match with the interactions with the other characters of that world. It was like MMO level interactions

A prime example of graphical quality that did match with the interactions with others in the world would be Mass Effect 2. Say what you will, but I'm ready for the day when you can play an RPG like a single player DnD session with AI interaction.
