Many people on this board and by extension people in this thread love Disney. Zootopia was #4 in last year's movie of the year vote. So this point is moot. People can appreciate all kinds of movies and see past their intended audience to discern their quality.
It's just a little weird to me how much people are shitting on this movie. The movie isn't for you, and it never was going to be for you. And that's ok. It is a silly little kids movie which I am sure will bring joy to many little kids. Kids don't care at all about review scores or what critics think. The only appropriate response to this movie should be "eh, this is a kids movie and therefore not for me." And then you move on with your life.
Are people upset that Sony had the gall to make a movie that wasn't targeted at them? Well, the universe doesn't revolve around you. Like why are people so sad and bitter? I just want to hug these people and tell them "everything will be ok, it's just a movie. Wait, did the director hurt you? No? Then why are you so upset about a movie existing!"
"Knowing audiences will acknowledge the film's commentaries on class warfare and racial barriers (is it a total coincidence, for example, that the emoji of defecation, brown in color, is mocked and surrounded by a community that's largely anything but?). And as the journey through one phone's app screen jumps swiftly from Spotify to Instagram, Twitter to Dropbox, it tells without words a narrative of digital indulgence that might hit the millennials in the cinema just a little too close to the Home button."

I'm looking forward to the Greek version. I hear it's much beta, although this news means it's been delta blow; it could be a lambda the slaughter. Still, if it's even one iota as good as it could be, and audiences give it alpha chance, some people will be left eating humble pi.
How come it's for the kids? Kids aren't even old enough to have phones to even be familiar with emojis! lolIt's just a little weird to me how much people are shitting on this movie. So if a film is being hated on, it's correlated to how kid-targeted a film is? That correlation is just junk.Yeah, I like Disney too. Disney movies usually sneak subtle jokes for adults in there and are generally just really good. But this movie seems to be a kids movie. Not all animated movies are kids movies, but this specific film defintely is, as evidenced by all the hate it's recieving.
Like when the emoji movie was announced if you went "finally! This is exactly what I have been asking and waiting for." Then I guess you could be dissapointed. I just don't see the point of being so bitter and angry about a movie, even if it's bad, even if you don't like it because some people will. So let the people who like it, like it and move on with your life. It's a movie, not an important issue. If people want to be angry there are plenty of real things to be angry about. Who cares about the emoji movie?

Look, I'm not trying to tell you how to parent, but if it was my daughter I would never take her to this movie. Is she really that dead set on seeing it?

What's the budget of this movie?

Midnight's Edge on Popeye and the Emoji movie.
Kids need great experiences and top quality product, this's a soulless, lazy effort, based mostly and marketing. It's just a little weird to me how much people are shitting on this movie. Lol, nice.💸💸💸
Well good for them, I guess. But at 50 million budget I don't think that would be true. It will probably get there after initial run though.According to Wikipedia, $50 million
This doesn't factor in the marketing.
They probably already made money through the excessive brand deals

What the fuck is Common Sense Media?
As someone who enjoyed a ton of movies as a kid and didn't realise how badly they were received (how the fuck does Hook only have 40% RT?) I'm sure this movie will go down well with a lot of kids.

I dunno, kids watch a lot of YouTube and might run into the same opinions that we do. I know my 10-year-old brother thinks this movie looked horrible. As someone who enjoyed a ton of movies as a kid and didn't realise how badly they were received (how the fuck does Hook only have 40% RT?) Children should not be allowed to watch The Emoji Movie. Their impressionable brains simply aren't set up to sift through the thick haze of corporate subterfuge clouding every scene of this sponsored-content post masquerading as a feature film. Adults know enough to snort derisively when, say, an anthropomorphic high-five drops a reference to popular smartphone game Just Dance Now (available for purchase in the App Store, kids!), but young children especially are more innocent and more vulnerable.
...the most disturbing part of this toxic film is the way it infects audiences with its ugly cynicism. A viewer leaves The Emoji Movie a colder person, not only angry at the film for being unconscionably bad, but resentful of it for making them feel angry. A critic can accept the truth that art and commerce will spend eternity locked in opposition. Nevertheless it's still startling to see art that cheers commerce on while being stamped in the face by its boots.
Kids are not stupid. They are among the sharpest, cleverest, most eagle-eyed creatures on God's Earth, and very little escapes their notice... They don't miss a thing, and they have an instinctive contempt for shoddy and shabby work. I make this observation because nine out of ten children's movies are stupid, witless, and display contempt for their audiences, and that's why kids hate them. Is that all parents want from kids' movies? That they not have anything bad in them? Shouldn't they have something good in them some life, imagination, fantasy, inventiveness, something to tickle the imagination?

Bbubuububu Wondy!!
There are plenty of great kids movies so that excuse doesn't really fly. Nah, nerd nemesis Scott Mendelson gave it a 5/10. Same score he gave Spider-Man: Homecoming, Deadpool, and The Force Awakens.
Sony decided this was worth 50 million dollars
Yeah, I like Disney too. Disney movies usually sneak subtle jokes for adults in there
the filmmakers saw fit to have a character sing, Nobody knows the touch screens Ive seen / Nobody knows the screenshots, while sitting atop a pile of trash, to the tune of Nobody Knows the Trouble Ive Seen, a spiritual written by slaves to bolster their spirits while toiling in the pre-Emancipation American South.
Is that really all it cost? That's not so bad.
I know its not remotely in the same league, but Moana cost probably over 150 million dollars. This is chump change.
What's the comparison ?
That they're both animated ?
