Football Thread 2014/2015 |OT11| This Is Our Year!

I really dont think he will move to 4-4-2, he has had ample opportunity but will only do it when we are in a complete bind and he has no option.

Its 3-5-2 until he buys players in the summer who he thinks can play it well

We are neutering Di Maria :(

We are neutering everyone.

Except de Gea. Our terrible defence makes sure that he performs well to command a higher price from Real Madrid.

LVG's master plan.

Messi has declined training today in an open session in front of thousands of kids, claiming to be sick.

Last time he declined training was the day after Pep left him on the bench for a game. Do the math.

Aye, cant complain if we are winnning, however horrendously, but stil its always hard to take when we play so much better in a 4-4-2.

Meh, if we are gonna play bad football might aswell get europe out of it, better than last year playing shit and getting 7th.

The football is rubbish, it's not good enough. We've spent so much money it has to be better than this. It's not like we're grinding out each and every result. We've just drawn to Villa, Stoke and Spurs which was a game we should have won aswell.

It's going to take time and I'm pretty sure Van Gaal will get it right....but yeah, so far this is not good enough.

Other than Leicester first half, QPR, Tottenham first half im genuinely struggling to think of good performances, im talking consistently good. Id say we have ground out pretty much ever result this season, which is fine, but as you say its not good enough. Its acceptable if we get fourth and its also acceptable because we have some absolute dross in the team, what sucks is we show signs of good play annd then the next game go back to dross.

At least the next games at home and after that away at QPR, then back home. I imagine we will play a bit better.

My problem with this 3-5-2 system is that it wouldn't look good even if all our players weren't injured. It's central problem is that all of our worst players (our atrocious CBs) spend the most amount of time with the ball. That and the fact it's more of a counter attacking formation in a team with no pace apart from ADM. It avoids any of our strengths.

Well, we've spent a lot of money on players that weren't playing. You can argue we shouldn't have spent so much on players with dodgy injury records, but they didn't have them until they came to us.

At the moment we're basically last year's side + any one of Shaw/Falcao/Herrera at any given time, all our signings don'y play together.

I feel there are 3 main issues in how well we do or don't play.

1) Carrick - if Carrick isn't playing we're going to play shit, simple as that. Blind is back soon so hopefully it offers Carrick some relief. Carrick's better but at least Blind is competent in that role.

2) Di Maria - everyone knows this, no Di Maria no pace, no verve, no urgency.

3) CBs - this might be the toughest one to solve. In Van Gaal's set up, either 352 or 442 (although more so in 352) the CBs are failing in every way. They can't defend, we know this, but they can't pass either. We are trying to build play from the back but we've got some absolute clowns back there who haven't got a clue what to do with the ball. McNair and Smalling are the only two who seem to try...and neither are very good. McNair is okay. Smalling just can't play football. Oh yeah Rojo..forgot about him, he's good at that.

I'm not including just the summers singings in the spending though. Mata and Fellaini have played an awful lot also.

Besides, the players we signed this summer have played a fair number of games. Falcao has made 7 or 8 starts now, Herrera has the same and he's been on the bench for plenty of games.

And then there's the wage bill too. It's a general point - this is an expensively assembled team. We know there is a ways to go yet but it's not acceptable for us to play shit football, and it's really shit football, 80% of the time.

Not saying we haven't been shit, just that there's extraneous factors. Our injuries have been a joke. 50-odd already is obscene.

Should be doing better, but we're third. We'll get there.

Well we'd better make sure we win this weekend or we won't be third or even in the top 4 much longer.

the MAIN reason we switched to a back three in 2011 was having three competent CBs and two tireless wingbacks

you have neither

and you're playing a wingerless formation with wingers

We've regressed to the mean in terms f performance to results ratio, and with Southampton next I fear wont be 3rd for much longer

I just find his rationale for it to be very simplistic: our defenders are bad so lets play more of them because that'll surely make our defence better, and because we have a lot of good strikers, so let's play 2 up front.

But it clearly doesn't work because what happens is our shit defenders can't pass and hoof it up to our strikers who aren't built for that kind of play.

Players that move to a wing position as they get nearer to the opponent's side. It could work if our players can dribble but...

Or if they can cross...

Sigh.
I know Ashley Young has been better lately but he's merely decent with a lot of shit decisions in between.

Yurt you haven't seen Always Sunny beyond season 1 and you don't even like it?

What a fraud tbh.

I saw Frank coming out of a couch last night. Still looking for my sides.

It's stupid. We have played our best footy in the diamond formation.

Wolves sign Jordan Graham on a perm transfer from Villa

Odd one. Had loan deal here but barely fucking played. Has talent mind,

I'm getting the feeling like there's going to be very little business done this window. Everything feels flat. Most papers can't even be fucked to make stuff up.

Oh yeah? The Express says Arsenal want to sign Messi, Pogba and Schneiderlin.

You can always count on them to come out with the most spectacular bollocks
