the sooner we move to digital only the better. i hope Sony ditches it next gen or keeps forcing those stuck in the past to pay more for an add on disc drive but a time will come where they rip the bandaid off once and for all.

Ridiculous!

Name one benefit of ditching physical media?

RIP the band aid off? Yeah, have every single game release in beta state, brilliant idea!

If Sony ditch physical then they can fuck off, enjoy never seeing a penny off me again. Yeah, they should do that! I’ll fuck them off like I fucked Xbox off the second they started with this bullshit at E3 2013.

If you’re happy having games companies treat you like a cunt then carry on being treated like a cunt. Don’t inflict your digital-only ideals on the rest of us because reasons.

Dont care for the horizon series and all these “festival” racers- so wasnt gonna get it. But i sure as hell wouldnt even contemplate it now even on sale.
Horrible. Hope Indy doesnt suffer the same fate

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
There may only be a couple of years left on the licenses, judging from FH4. So that could be why, although you would of thought they would of renewed the licenses for launch on a major playform. Still it is an older game now so maybe they dont expect huge sales.

Also someone said digital isnt as popular on Playstation as Xbox, which is true, but still isnt isnt digital on Playstation something like 70-80%?
Misinterpreted and intentionally so, revenue is 70/80% Digital and that includes everything on the PlayStation Store Vs Physical Revenue.

If Digital was 70/80% of units and it was 70% last year too.

Physical sales wouldn't be able to drop 30% this year and it be 70/80% Digital still.

Physical disc is just a coaster for Horizon 5 given how they completely rewrote almost everything about it and keep adding to it. There is not a Game of the Year edition because it is constantly updated with activities and content.

A question for owners of the physical Xbox Series version.

Is the full game available on disc?

If I had a Series X with no internet connection, could I play all single player content from disc?
You can play offline, but you'll have to update the game first as there were multiple season updates worth dozen of GBs.

Remember that you'll be getting the current, "complete" version of the game. Horizon 5 already got all the unique content and it's not going to be getting any major updates after the PS5 release. I bet that Playground is preparing for Horizon 6 release in the fall.

Is this a big deal? Most PlayStation 5 gamers prefer digital. Hell, they have three consoles on sale and two don’t come with a disc drive.

Let go, physical weirdos.

every other industry has moved to digital. movies, tv, books, music. but oh not gaming because gamers are too stubborn and want their plastic toys.

at least with movies/music there is a reason to keep physical media around as it can offer better quality. books doesn't really make a difference and there is absolutely no difference between a physical and digital game. you don't get better performance. all a disc is these days is a half finished game and a glorified license. you still don't own the full game.

the sooner we move to digital only the better. i hope Sony ditches it next gen or keeps forcing those stuck in the past to pay more for an add on disc drive but a time will come where they rip the bandaid off once and for all.

i have to laugh at people who say they will stop playing games because of no physical. can't really like games that much then.

the writing is on the wall. we've had digital only consoles for years now. but of course Sony and Microsoft need to go slowly so the sensitive gamers don't get too upset.

Literally every one of those industries still offers physical alternatives.

There absolutely are important differences:

- Physical games are cheaper (at least in Europe).
- I can resell, trade and lend out physical games. Digital games are forever tied to my account.

Until both of these change I'm not going fully digital.

lol watch these idiots mess up what should have been a slam-dunk of port success. full price, early access scam for 4 y.o game, now this

Especially considering, at least according to Ampere, there's a serious lack of player engagement for arcade racers on PS5 compared to Xbox, almost exclusively due to FH5.

This could've been MS's chance to capitalize on that gap with this port, but cutting off a physical release is going to cut right into their sales cap for the game on PS5.

OTOH, maybe MS are betting on the desire for a big arcade-style racer to the point where lack of physical doesn't really matter. It'd be funny tho if something like Burnout Paradise got announced for a remaster released at the same time as FH5 🤣

BTW this is the Ampere data I'm referring to:

MAU of course doesn't 1:1 with sold copies and it's possible 'Arcade Racing' MAU on Xbox is inflated due to FH5 being in a service like Game Pass, but it's still interesting to note nonetheless.

No physical means a portion of the sales will be affected, regardless how big or small.
