My PS4 had the 500GB drive and I replaced it 1TB. I thought I had replaced it with a 7200rpm drive, but it was actually a 5400rpm drive.
Like you I will probably just pick up a 7200rpm drive and call it a day.

It is unbelievable that I will not have any impressions of the FireCuda from anyone until I test it out myself in a few hours. If no one posts an experience, I will.

It depends on what you mean by tangible.
Even on the OG model, despite being no where near as much of an improvement as on PC, you still get a few seconds faster load times, produce less heat and have no moving parts, so it'll run quieter and vastly reduce the risk of mechanical failure.
If budgets a concern, and you're mostly interested in loading times, it's certainly looking like it's probably not worth the extra cash.
But if you've the money to burn, an SSD is always the best choice.

This sounds brilliant to me. While i was always going to use an SSD in Pro for general improvements, I'll admit FFXIV was the game I was most hoping to see get better. Those load times look amazing. Idyllshire and the first login usually take ages and this is very welcome news! That Limsa Lominsa one looks really good as well.
Edit: I translatee what I could except I'm not sure what Rim support Mansion is supposed to be. Not that it really matters with benchmarks, the improvements are there regardless.

Is it safe to assume that the stock HDD in the Pro is garbage? Should I use my 3 year old Seagate SSHD instead?

Disappointing DF is the only the only outlet we can count on for the nitty gritty details like this.
PS4 Firmware Checker is very handy. If you need it for a fresh install, select Recovery.
Stock one is a 5400 rpm SATA2 drive so it's not the best one. The SSHD will be faster.Åesop;223935465 said:

The interest here is whether or not SATA 3 support improves anything at all. We already know there will be gains going from HDD to SSD.

There probably won't be a big difference between them. The speed of the drive the game is on is not the only factor that determines load times.
For instance on PC there are no differences in load times between a sata3 ssd and an nvme based ssd even though the latter can have 4-5 times faster read speeds.
Also testing loading times on games with very short loading times from HDD is kinda stupid because again the drive is not the limiting factor.

The speeds listed on the link for FFXIV speed differences is consistent with the improvements you'd get on OG PS4. When I swapped my standard OG PS4 hdd for a SSD the zoning load times in that game were definately cut more than in half. The game was near unplayable to me with how horribly long the load times were on PS4. Of course this is mostly due to the fact I have it on PC as well anyhow.

I installed my SSD in the Pro and...even if the gains aren't what people hoped after using stock HDD on the PS4 for 3 and a bit years the SSD feels very nice and extra snappy and its probably placebo effect but it feels noticeably faster going from the PSN Store/Library to the dashboard/xmb etc.
Eh. call me crazy but I think my 2TB HDD is faster in the PS4 Pro than it was in my release day PS4. I've no way to measure it tho.
Edit: of course I know that from a technical standpoint that should not be possible b/c sata 2 already provides more bandwith than the r/w speed of a normal HDD can support

Just bought a 2TB Firecuda last night... Since Best Buy isn't doing any sales or bundles for Black Friday, I'm tempted to just buy one at MSRP with my gift cards.

Coming in late, but has anyone analyzed the stock 500 GB from the OG model versus the 1TB from the Pro?
If the pro has a better stock HDD speed, I may stick with that over my 1.5TB drive that was an upgrade on capacity, but not speed, on my OG PS4.

you're not crazy - it's pretty much accepted that Pro loads quicker, likely due to faster CPU helping out? I'm not sure, but yeah, loading times have come down
