Gex Trilogy Announced (PC/PS/Xbox/Switch) - Limited Run Games

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Wtf is the carbon engine and why is it showing up 6000 times today?

The Carbon Engine is a development tool that allows legacy content to be ported to modern platforms. Old, well-loved releases can find a second wind on all-new hardware using the Carbon Engine. It is a core component of Limited Run’s vision for a world that is Forever Physical.

What is the Carbon Engine?
Created internally at Limited Run Games, Carbon Engine is a multi-platform development tool that helps different emulators interface with modern hardware. It uses emulation as a base, on top of which the Carbon Engine builds features like UI, rendering, audio, data management, controller inputs, and console-specific SDK features like trophies. It allows Limited Run to put out highly accurate, emulation-based ports of classic games for modern hardware.

What are its goals?
Carbon Engine development aims to breathe new life into releases that are rare, highly sought-after, or otherwise no longer available and make them more accessible to consumers, preservationists, and developers. Furthermore, the Carbon Engine seeks to create a perfectly accurate experience for the player— creating a true “carbon copy” of the original game they played long ago and allowing new players to play games as intended by the developers. - Interested in using the Carbon Engine? Are you a developer seeking to revisit your back catalog with the Carbon Engine? We’d love to hear from you. If you have further questions or want to learn more about what the Carbon Engine can do with your legacy content, please contact [email protected].

Why does everyone hate LRG ?

And I personally hated them before that because their whole organization is designed FOMO bull shit, rather than being concerned with getting physical copies in the hands of people who want them. You miss the release of one Shantae game that came out early, and had the least amount of prints? And we'll release all the other Shantae games, but make the 3rd game impossible to get unless you pay insane scalper prices? Too bad, we don't do reprints. Oh, but we'll make sure you wish you had them all, by selling more box sleeves than there are actually copies of games to fill them.

Wait it is just emulation? Then why bother? I highly doubt that their emulation solution is better than any of the current open source PSX emulators

Cuz they support cancel culture and fired a girl for no good reason because a twittard demanded her to be fired. Fuck them spineless cunts.

damn thats craaaaazy.....yea I'm still going to buy lol

I don't support cancel culture, sooooo I also don't fucking buy shit based on any of this or avoid shit based on stuff like this either.

Is the quality good? Is the game fun? Thats about it lol

Yeah there’s some video on YouTube explaining how they state there is limited copies yet sell same item at conventions which ties into the FOMO stuff mentioned. Also earning points that expire and can’t be used on certain releases. Shady.

Meh it's just emulation, not even a port, let alone remaster/remake...
This is where I'm at. I don't think everyone realizes that all of their announcements today are just emulated games. That's it. They may have new art and some other stuff. But other than that, it's the same game. So, hopefully people are aware of that.

Why does everyone hate LRG ?
Some folks don't like that they fired an employee for absurd reasons. Others just aren't fond of how their business evolved.

I liked the original 2D Gex, but the 3D ones were kinda rough because of how primitive 3D graphics were back then. Maybe if the 3D ones were made on at least PS2 tech, they would have been more enjoyable. If this trilogy is brought up to more modern graphic standards, they might be worth a go.

Oh wait.....Limited Run Games just does physical releases, right? Then there wouldn't be a digital edition? Because I haven't bought a physical game since PS3.

Gex is all sorts of 90s hilarious, the joke is he's tv, and that's it again and again.. and again...and then 1 more time since it wasn't funny the first 80 times,
but neat that they're making a collection, though I must say Tomba was way more out of left field
maybe one day we'll see the dreamcast Berzerk game reissued

Money goes to the development studio/publisher of the game, and the games will be available on more platforms.

I loved these games as a kid. But I have a feeling it’s one of those of things that’s better off staying in the past. I can’t imagine they’ve aged well.

I wouldn't mind giving the first one a decent try. I never made it past the first couple of stages as a kid.
I did play the third one (?) and I remember it so vividly because Gex got laid at the end.

I'm really excited for this. I grew up playing Enter the Gecko a fair amount, and I was playing it recently on a PS1 also. Besides the janky camera, it's still fun and we need more games like this.

Nobody asked for this. They are just porting the game with Emulation to the current consoles while using this carbon engine or what the fuck It's called.

The two 3d platformers deserved a complete remake from ground up not this low effort trash.

Sounds like the shitty Bill and Ted Games all over again. Another game nobody asked for.

I’d only play the original, and it’s still available on PC.

Is there any site/way to see their recent announcements without going through their whole presentation?

I played the 3D ones as recently as 2020, the second one is a little dated, but the style still has charm, however I'll go to bat for the third one as just a great 3D platformer for its era, way underrated, it's a huge improvement over the second one.

They're both perfectly playable games today provided you understand they're 90s platformers, to me the 90s style still has loads of charm, especially the presence of a Baywatch actress in the third game.
