With the discussion of female protagonists and DEI stuff in general, I came up with this thought experiment: if AIs could produce amazing games (I doubt this could happen though without massive human input) what cultural values would be the most popular in the games? To make this more concrete think of RPG games.
Would the land of straight ethnically homogenous be the most popular, or would it sprinkled different faces and LGBT people? Would it have male leads, female leads or "other" leads? Would it show all religion as bad, some religions as bad or all religion as good?
My thinking here is that games currently are a package deal and showing a particular game is popular doesn't tell us what the highest preferences of gamers are. For instance, you could currently have a situation (I'm not saying this is the situation) of the tyranny of the minority (Nasim Taleb's term) whereby a market niche has a strong preference for one thing (say LGBT stuff) so it is put into games to get them to buy it knowing that most gamers don't like it but it doesn't bother them enough to stop them buying the game.
With AI each game would be bespoke to each user so we would be able to see his preferences most clearly without distortion from the minority or the majority.
Edit - the point is not whether AI could do this, I am highly doubtful it ever could. My main question is the genuine preferences of gamers, the AI part is just a way to think about a bespoke game created 100% around your tastes and preferences.
