Bullshit. Everytime I replay Mass Effect 3 I feel annoyed that just cause I use some Paragon dialogue with Cortez he suddenly think I'm into him and eventually tries to get into a relationship. It is weird and the majority of gamers arent interested in it. Also, that scholar / merchant being from Mali empire makes sense in context. I believe Mali was pretty large and ascendant during that time period and trade with Middle East was flourishing at the time.
So no unskippable penetration after all.
Edit: The line about treatment of women in a Sunni Sultanate in year 1400 is a bit sus though. They all had very strict restrictions of what women could do, face/body coverings and so on.
Having a black NPC from Mali who met Sigismund in the Middle East is somewhat believable considering the circumstances though.

Thing is, why do we need to address these edge case scenarios in video games, for what percentage of gamers do we account this for? 1% ? no I'm not exaggerating, if general pop is 3-4% gay, how many are gamers and how many are not just Sports/COD, that actually play these types of game, an RPG. In reality you talk about 0.5% of the population.
Why does the main bulk of gamers who are heterosexual need to feel weird (sure not all, some of us do feel weird) with these things added when it is aimed at such a low nr. of customers.
It just feels added cause Blackrock said it should, just for changing behaviors and agenda. If there was a significant part of the population interested in this, you could make a case, but thats not reality.

It's absolutely not the same. Henry is straight in the first game and you can romance Bianca which is like a pretty big part of the game DLC. And while that won't change anything for me when I play the second game, it's tiring to see every game trying to appeal to the DEI audience especially when you take the context/period/history into account AND what has been developed in the first game.
Imagine a gay character, who has never shown any interest in the opposite sex, suddenly becoming straight if you want. DEI players will go crazy for this.
And Bianca was my girl!
Btw this is my Steam profile, as you can see I have almost 400 hours in BG3 and it's one of my favorite game ever so no, I don't really care if a character is gay/trans/whatever. But I care about consistency and logic and those comments by Vara contradict the first game.

I don't think this is a hill worth dying on. Is it a little weird that Henry can now suddenly be gay? Yeah a little, but ultimately you can choose yourself what route to go on. Also Henry being an established male character means that all the characters you can romance aren't bi for the player's convenience, like in BG3 or Veilguard.

The intellectual concept of "being gay" didn't exist in the Middle Ages. Nor did the idea of "sexual orientation". What did exist was homosexuality and homosexual acts, but how they were seen -- including by the people who partook in them -- was completely different from today. Homosexual acts were not something that was "on the menu" of your "sex life" and that you could try out in certain circumstances, like the game seems to indicate. The idea of there being equivalence between heterosexuality and homosexuality (two intellectual notions that also didn't exist in the medieval mindset in the same way they do now) was unknown, even to people who were homosexuals. "Lying with a man" was something that a lot of people didn't even know existed or was possible, to give you an idea. So making Henry a character that entertains the idea of trying this act is not historically or psychologically plausible, considering what we know about him from the first game and the world he lives in.
It's not the end of the world and not a deal-breaker, but it's a stupid idea, and people can point that out, same they would with any other dumb or unnecessary story ideas, especially if one is a stickler for historical accuracy (to be honest, KCD 1 and I assume this one are not THAT historically accurate. There are many characters, situations and dialogue choices throughout that would not really have been plausible in the era depicted).

If you are gonna have multiple dudes hitting on you in the game to a point where it's clearly pandering then you can be mad about it, but if there are just a few occasion where the thing comes out with one maybe 2 characters in a 100 hours game then i don't see a big problem, but then again, i have kinda of an high tolerance for woke if i really like a game for other aspects.
If inserting like 2% of dei shit gave vavra more money to make the game overall better and bigger, then i think most people are gonna be ok with it.

But AssCreed Odyssey was really horrible in that regards. When I played with the dude....there were maybe 2 girls which I could "interact" with...and than literally 20 guys who asked for my ass. WTF! And the whole relationship thing was only a "blacked out" screen and that was it...nothing else, nothing more. Typical Ubisoft checklist feature. Thats exactly how not to do it.
