Playing it for the first time these past 48 hours but I just can't stomach the constant backtracking. Its beyond a joke. I've opened up that Chozo Ruins area, the lava filled area and the snow covered area. Last night I uncovered a new section that told me I need to find 12 relics and I switched off. I just know its going to be constant back & forth (again). Fast travel & auto-save should have been added to this remaster.
Thanks but no thanks.
Phew. This was one that almost got away. Was on the verge of giving up but persevered, competed it today (78%, 25 hour completion time) and guess what, its only one of the best games I've ever played
There are so many positives, the gorgeous GORGEOUS graphics, level design, enemies, variety of weaponry/power ups, lack of cinematics &boring drawn out story, the atmosphere, boss battles, where to stop. The highest compliment I can pay it is that Powerslave/Exhumed being my absolute favourite Metroidvania (lite) and an all-time favourite too has been completely steamrollered by this. It's sophisticated beyond it on an altogether different level.
The backtracking and lack of save points did grate a bit but the overall quality and acceptance that is what a Metroidvania is all about relegated those two negatives to reasonably trivial levels. I'm not sure if I'll go back and do 100%, the scanning aspect didn't really interest me but I'll give it a second run at some point. Hopefully 2 & 3 Remastered are in the works and the Switch2 will launch with part 4. I'll be all over it if so.
Those graphics though, I know there are better looking pc & console furst person games but artistically I think this looks way better than any of them....Halo, modern Doom, etc. I must have taken well over a hundred screenshots along the way.
To think I was going to dump this....
