What an abomination. Western dev design is absolutely pathetic.

Is the character on the left a model as well? Or just art.

Because comparing art to an ingame model isnt really a fair comparison is it?

In-game. Rivals has some nice celshading and line work at higher res.

That said, the images actually do a small disservice to Avengers. It's more grounded and bland (my opinion) but technically not bad. Just reminds me too much of what studios like NetherRealms would prefer to do vs any decent, IP knowing, visual identity clued-up studio.

This video is a better comparison and shows Avengers is not bad, bad. Just boring, which some people do enjoy.

The problem I see with Avengers is a few such as the realistic look but also the view that anyone can be a hero/villain. Sure, the comics were like that too, take Peter Parker. But as Spidey he's drawn way more heroic, pose and all. These Avengers poses, and studios that follow this direction, strip any heroism or powerful posing away completely. The Black Panther one is a good comparison. His Rivals pose is eye catching, it's emposing and striking. His Avengers pose is weak, average and not larger than life it just lacks so much character and punch. I personally want my fictional heroes and villains to be larger than life even if they came from being an ordinary person by lore (Peter Parker, Miles, basically any of them). This is also a reason in my opinion why games or art from games like Capcom's Versus stuff is still amazing decades later (because they understood character design perfectly), but also why Marvel Infinite lost it's visual appeal (because of similar reasons as Avengers).

I am so over capeshit and will never play this but happy this is doing well.

Destroys the concord narrative of no room for hero shooters outside of OW2

Also, all the models are the quintessential versions of the comic book characters as opposed to whatever the fuck the avengers game was doing. Stylized, superhuman proportions and remiscent of designs from 20 years back and it is going gangbusters.

Disney is fucking dumb. All they ever needed to do is use what worked in comic book designs. That's it and it could print money.. Just play the greatest hits and do it well.

The problem for me with realistic graphics is even if it's technically awesome photorealistic art is that t doesn't fit well for crazy shit like superheros which not only look nuts but also move and do crazy attacks. The Avengers game shows characters that look mo-capped with realistic moves a normal human does. Rivals doesn't.

Realism fits better with grounded games like modern action or military games. Or even for something more like Skyrim which is made up skeletons and mages casting fireballs and stuff, but it's not meant to be like cape characters jumping and smashing stuff with style like Spidey or Hulk.

So what you get with Avengers game is more like people dressed up in Halloween costumes looking like retards than spiffy superheroes.

I know its free but i'm actually surprised by this. Not because its a bad game or anything, more because whenever i watch someone playing this, i can barely tell whats going on lol. In fact even some of the streamers i watch say they cant tell whats going on 80% of the time. :messenger_beaming:

Same thing happens to me with Overwatch, which is why I never got into it. At least Marvel Rivals, you can see your character.

His ukt would be so sick. Just takes off the shades and melts mother fuckers.

The dream.

They should add Charles in a wheel chair for memes
Charles with a glass chair, simply because you need to be able to see his butt to fit the game 😅

I actually remember having that toy back in the day…

This game is awesome! Beautiful art style, buff dudes, hot chicks. I also love that's a 3rd person perspective game.

Best of all, it's a damn fun game.

It’s the only multiplayer game released in the past few years i’ve played regularly enough. It’s fun. Great to see it doing well.
