Infinite of course, a never ending selection of characters that would make a Mugen game blush
It's infinite!

I'm all for that. RIP my wallet

It's astounding how many people can't seem to at least understand Arthur's inclusion. I don't know about everyone else, but I've always considered the Vs. series a celebration of Capcom's entire history or, in other words, not just trendy characters of the last 5-10 years or exclusively overwhelmingly popular characters.

If they're going to celebrate Capcom as a company, Arthur makes more sense than a lot of characters because he's such a famous and classic character who serves to represent a very specific time period in Capcom's retro history. He's unique, iconic and has shown up in Capcom crossovers for years.

I understand Firebrand raising some questions, but complaining about Arthur in MvC is like complaining about Pit or Ness in Smash Bros. Not up to a whole lot these days but historically they're great choices. To be honest, I felt like UMvC3 had a really good roster in that regard. Great spread of characters across Capcom's history.

Anyway, let's show Arthur some respect, people. He's a real OG. Plus Arthur has had way more games than people realize--Ultimate GnG, which was incredible, a few mobile games and Maximo was essentially a GnG game so I'm going to lump that under the GnG umbrella.

Go You! Go You! GnG is one of my favorite franchise, and I'm going to be happy if Firebrand also make it's return as well.

So i'lm going to offer you a counter argument

The audience: I have no idea who he is and he looks dumb. I wanna play as vergil, or wesker, pheonix wright. Characters that I know and care about and are cool.

I don't think a lot of the audience cares about ghouls and ghosts and how its important to capcom history.

They wanna play as wesker.

I will say this Firebrand has no business being in this game at the moment over Viewtiful Joe, Vergil, & Wesker.

Viewitful Joe! I got you with Vergil and Wesker. but Viewitful Joe?

I'm an Arthur main from 3, so I was pretty excited about his inclusion. Really didn't think he would make it at all. I'm a little sour that his golden armor still breaks though lol

Yup, hard knockdown sound not fun to me since It could be double edge sword for me.

Arthur coming out of armor install is still a hard knockdown correct?

Yes, unfortunately. :(

Almost at thread 2. I wonder what it's title is going to be since the speculation is all but done.

Speculation isn't over tho since we might have more characters than we could have. Also there are also DLC characters that we could speculate. Hastily are you?

I know quite a few people that could play any character as long as they're good, but I feel it's not the majority at all. Very much disagree that Magneto's moveset is what makes him desirable.

Personal attachments to roster/character selection when choosing a fighter is usually what takes it over anything. Magneto is Magneto because he's muthafuck'n Magnus.

People wanna play magneto, Because he mad fucking neato.

A lot of people don't care about like movesets and pedigree's, you can make them care about that. People certainly gave more of a fuck about nova and Rocket after ultimate. But folks are here to use a cool guy, to do a cool thing.

And that's kinda it

oh dear

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite Functions and stages Discussion thread

What should we use for DT2 subtitle? I think Oh Dear would be a perfect subtitle for MVCI OT. Unless Enzo_GT isn't planned to use it? I will toss him a PM.

Hopefully they are aggressive with DLC. 2 characters a month from Oct.- Mar. would really do wonders.

I wonder if we are going to see 10-12 characters per year.

Considering reveals are typically at the end of EVO, I'd expect this to be the old build, since it would have to be playable on Friday and Saturday.

Well, you have to keep it in your mind that they might do reveals at D23 instead since it's the Disney event they usually like to announce their Marvel stuffs at.

So far I know they are going to announce new world for Kingdom Heart 3 at there, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to announce something for Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite.

Kind of the bottom line here from the casual perspective. They wanna do cool shit with their fav characters. Then they'll pick a character that looks cool or interesting and then try to do cool shit. Then you have the average, joke or weirdo characters who might even be the the best in the game from a mechanics and tools standpoint , but they'll be the last picked if at all. It's like playing a dragon ball game with a character creator all people initially do is make saiyans.

They wanna play as wesker.

That's the problem when you have companies that span generations, really. Plenty of their properties "deserve" spots for various reasons. There's no objective right choice.

That Combofiend quote really got people thinking deep.

It's real simple guys. It's a crossover game about dream matchups. It's the fucking point. People dream about Batman vs Superman, Bison vs Heihachi, Akuma vs Apocalypse, Dante vs Magneto. Fanservice is the lifeblood of a good crossover.

No one dreams about Calendar Man vs Yondu, or Nova vs Spencer. Combos just talking out of his ass.

Quick reminder that Combo doesn't at all believe what he said and he has to defend all of Marvel's decisions if he doesn't want to sabotage their relationship.

Yeah, at the end of the day, Combo and Mike have to just hold that. I know even they don't agree with most of the stuff they're saying, but that's a spin they gotta adhere to.

Maaaan....this whole situation sucks.

From the stupid Marvel suits and their pettiness, to Capcom being unable to not cause self-inflicting wounds, to the pants on head stupid shilling accusations...

just.... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Can't get over how astoundingly bad this looks all-around.

Legitimately worried about the longevity of the game.

I don't disagree with Sephi about fans wanting to see their dream matches. I know it for myself but I never had a high expectation for the characters I would like to see in the game. That's what we called, "managing to have a low expectation for the roster."

Exactly, and many people doesn't get it. People just jumped into conclusion and trying to pin it on Combofiend and Mike.

Yeah, I can't be mad at Arthur when I'm camping for Fou lu.

You have a great taste. I'm all for a Breath of Fire rep.

You think everyone is just gonna ditch this and go back to UMvC3?

I think if he kept playing the game he would've remained a team Nemo main. Even in 2012 he was in that weird transition phase of being more comfortable with his old team than the new, superior team.

Man losing Combofiend in Marvel 3 was such a loss on the competitive side of things. Among the top players he was the one that was most aggressive aside from PR Balrog. He was a nice antithesis to the defensive ChrisG and FChamp type players out there.

No because this game offers a lot to the competitive base of the series. Pro players will be all up in this game, grinding it out in the lab and trying to win majors for the big e sports money which this game probably will have.

I think the only way people go back to UMVC3 is if that EX mod blows up even more and the game play in Marvel Infinite sucks a ton. Like if the Tag system fails to deliver.

Worst case scenario for MvCI right now is the game comes out in September and is so busted that people are just using the same few tactics over and over again. This would then result in stream monsters rioting because they were told that the game was so creative and open ended. I can already see the memes...

"WOW Marvel + Ultron Reality gem mirror match... SO CREATIVE MUCH OPEN!"

To lighten the mood around here. Imma ask character questions and you guys can pick which one you'd rather.

So if you had the choice to have ONLY one of these characters in the game....

Venom or Carnage

Of course it's Venom, Carnage is a Venom rip off.

*Cue some Carnage fanboy telling me I am wrong and then I tell 'em to back go the 90s when Carnage was relevant*

Venom. Why would anyone want Carnage? Venom is already too close to "too edgy", Carnage is straight up edge incarnate.

Venom. I hate Carnage, for the most part. His 2016 series was pretty good, though. So was AXIS Carnage

Carnage was never relevant, but I stand by that the idea behind Carnage is super solid. A serial killer with a terrifying symbiote suit. But im biased because I look at the symbiotes for what they could / should be (imagine them in real life, that shit would be fucking horrifying) and not what they are in the comics most time.

There was actually a Carnage solo book recently (last year? 2 years ago) that was quite decent, and it had Carnage basically be Alien (as in, the Alien monster from the movies), skulking around in darkness taking out a bunch of fbi people after him one by one.
